    This is my home airspace. I recognize almost every location in this video. I'm based and did all my training at CYKF, but I've flown all of this before. I remember being SO terrified going into Toronto airspace. Tbh, as you fly it more, it gets a LOT easier. I flew into Buttonville airport before it closed. THAT was the craziest flight I've been on so far as the procedures to get into the airport involved Toronto Island Airport, VFR routing and a busy uncontrolled airport. Hey Tom, you did great for someone not familiar with Toronto airspace and procedures. Don't ever be tentative checking into busy airspace with the controllers, its much better that they know definitively who you are, where your going, your confirmed altitude, and can assign a squawk code, communicate with you if needed to climb, descend or deviate from your track. If a controller is too busy to deal with you they will tell you and issue alternate instructions. Think about the number of times in this video where you were issued instructions and what would that be like for a controller who can see your radar target but is unable issue instructions because a pilot did not check in. You remained calm and did your preplanning. Great work!!! (From a now retired, 35 year controller in YYZ)

      That sounds like an incredible trip with your PA30! The language issue is definitely a safety concern and highlights the importance of clear communication in all aspects of aviation. Nicely done, Tom, and great video! Funny, having done all my training and flying here, I never think of Toronto airspace as being busy or intimidating, but it’s all what you’re used to. I’d be terrified the first time flying over the big rocks you fly over out west. You flew right over my house at 26:18. 😀

      Thanks so much for the kind words! It's interesting how our perspectives differ based on our experiences. Toronto airspace can definitely seem busy and complex if you're not used to it, but it sounds like you've got it all figured out. Flying over the mountains out west can be daunting at first, but it's amazing once you get accustomed to it. That's so cool that I flew right over your house! Small world! Thanks for watching and for your support. Safe flying!

    Me again, from your stop over in Dryden while I was heading the other way. Finally, you’re in my stomping grounds… trained at St Catharines, now based out of Waterloo. My favourite runs are to Rockcliffe, over the Falls and into Toronto island. Lindsay is on our list of lunch destinations. And I’ve pretty much seen everything else south of Timmins. I’ve also motored the whole Rideau Canal - Trent Severn Waterway in a folding boat with a small outboard, 90 locks, 600km in 2 weeks; a really neat camping trip if you’re ever wanting to see it from the water. On nice weekends I still occasionally go up and launch just to ride the lift locks and the Big Chute. Glad you got to see some of this area. Your zoom shots from the cabin are nice and clear. Great job. I haven’t been east of Quebec City yet so looking forward to the next one. The wait times are brutal though. 😜

Thanks for the kind words about the zoom shots from the cabin - Those are all from Val. I'm glad you enjoyed them. VFR PHRASEOLOGY Language CARs 602.133, 602.134, 602.135 All ATS units in Canada provide service in English. However, Canada is unique in that within the boundaries of Quebec, as well as at Ottawa-Macdonald Cartier International Airport, a pilot may choose to communicate in either English or French. The initial contact sets the language for the entire communication. You must initiate contact in the desired language of communication and continue communicating in that language for the duration of your contact* This is dangerous in my opinion. I had anxiety just listening to the video. Good on you, Tom.

    Nice views…. Question: Do you notice a big difference filing in 4K? I still use 1080P, and don’t want to use up too much memory filming in 4K, unless there is a significant difference, I use 256 cards…

    • @flyingadventuresab
      @flyingadventuresab 3 місяці тому

      4K is a great feature, offering noticeably improved video quality when viewed on a 4K monitor with UA-cam's settings adjusted to 4K playback. However, the difference might not be as apparent on a smartphone. It's speculated that UA-cam's algorithm might favor 4K content, though this isn't confirmed. Keep in mind that the storage demands for 4K video are significantly higher-requiring four times the usual space. Additionally, editing 4K footage demands more processing power, necessitating a robust video editing setup. Also, transferring video from memory cards in 4K format takes four times longer. 4K also makes your action cams work harder, use more battery, and get hotter. I'm not 100% sure it's worth it, but I'm set up pretty good for it with my gear.

    Sick video. I’m from Cranbrook and have worked at the fording river mines so pretty sweet to see it from that perspective. Currently working on my PPL in Vancouver, and Nelson is one of the first places I want to fly to so this video helped a lot! Just curious what was your total flight time? Also, to answer your question, the haze you’re seeing around the mines is mostly coal dust. You can see little wisps of smoke from the underground coal fires if you’re standing right over it but it wouldn’t produce that much haze.
