With respect to the king bearings, since there was no damage to the journals or crank, guessing you all used standard size? Also do you find that those bearings are within spec for the 3 variation options for the ford/Volvo factory bearing replacements?
Thank you so much; it’s a fine balance between the different styles! We used to do lots like this but didn’t get the views. It’s something we will be trying to bring back 🙌
Absolute incredible video ive just brought a focus st where the alternator belt has snapped and been taken up buy the cam belt knocking the timing out and causing some damage. This video has boosted my confidence to do a rebuild thank you so much where would you recommend for parts
Thank you 🙏 It’s not always about understanding - it’s about appreciating. That’s why we try not to make things too complex and cover the basics. Thank you again for your support and for watching 💙
Thanks for this Great Video. Is it possible to tension the tensioner in the wrong direction? In some other Videos they turn the 6mm clockwise and no i am unsure.
The process of sizing piston rings up on original oem items is this because of the block has been hoaned modded and does this apply on st150 2.0 another great video guys 👍🏻👍🏻
Superb vid, love the Ben tutorials top bloke 👍🏼 , hope the eyes getting better D, what’s the best forge piston and rod set up I saw the mahle pistons and k1 rods in back ground but I’ve seen the wossner and wiseco piston aswell🤔kudos again guys🙌🏼
Our weapons of choice are MAHLE/K1 for the big builds. Nothing against the Wiseco; just personal preference! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video and thanks for the awesome comments 💙
Absoulty class i am literally about to attempt this on my mk2 mechanical to trade offshore but this is different level I am just wondering if the same process goes for installing uprated forged parts rods pistons and crank shaft etc or is there a complete difference and will they all go together I.e. k1 rods piper cams and like a forged crank shaft or do certain parts only go with certain parts
This is an awesome video, I'd love to have a go at doing a build one day. Also, would it be possible for you to maybe do a parts comparison video? i.e. forged vs standard pistons and cams ect.
Great video I’m thinking of buying an ST225, but worrying if I put what I buy in for a block mod how much would it cost to have this work done if the liners were found to be cracked.
Do the main bearing bolts need to be replaced at a hydb/hydc engine? Equivalent b5254T from volvo. Torq spec's are not clear to me for the little block bolts, 24 and 17nm + 90 degrees? Torque spec camshaft cover is not mentioned?
Hi guys, been looking for a while but can’t seem to find the right information. I’m looking to build a 450WHP engine, will the factory oil pump be sufficient or will this need upgrading and if so what would you recommend. Many thanks and keep up the fantastic work.
I really enjoyed this video, great work guys! Also, Is it possible to use with this engine the intake camshaft from a Volvo 2.4i (C30/S40/V50/C70)engine? Will it provide any performance gains?
Could you please assist if I put a dailgauge on my number one piston and turn the engine to tdc mark then my timming mark on my crank does not correspond to the mark on the oil pump so if you use the timming tools the mark alighn with the oil pump but the pistons number one is not full on tdc. Why is that
Hi, im from brazil and have recently rebuilt my engine. I get no leaks or issues with the pcv valve. Also my oil pump is new but im getting something like 0.8bar oil pressure at idle and 3.0 bar at 4000rpm. According to the manual im a bit off the ideal oil pressure. We checked rod bearings and their clearence is within standards. What can i check next? Im out of options in my head.
I have a crazy question! Is it possible to fit an ST HYDA 2,5 liters in a Ford Focus Mk2 which has the 1,6L HWDA engine? If yes, what are the difficulties?
Anything is possible with the right amount of parts, money and skill. The question is more of - is it worth the cost? There are a few who have installed HYDA Engines into other models; however the ROI isn't always worth it. against switching out! Hope that this helps, TeamBD
@@BDPerformanceWrexham Indeed... ROI will be most negative. Then perhaps worth building the engine and deciding about the car later? BTW, I really enjoy your videos. I just discovered your channel couple of days ago.
We recommend you leave the vehicle with us for the day. We then test overnight on an extended road test and you can usually collect the very next morning ;)
A sleeve or the genuine installation tool from Ford. If you are really struggling you could use the original you removed, over the new seal, to reinstall. Hope that this helps, TeamBD
The main bearings you get 2 that are bigger than the rest in a king bearing set where do these go please as it doesn't show in the video. I don't want to put them in wrong position cheers guys 👍
Interesting question. I think we would pass; simply because we don’t specialise in anything other than cars. Thank you for the question and for watching 💙
Prices vary greatly in honesty, from £3995 through to far more, depending on specification etc. Why not take a look at our Engine Configuration tool on store.bdperformance.co.uk
Am not planning on mapping mine ect will change the oil every 5k way the millers stuff use sugested. When want go fast will hop on my bike. The boys it spent 10-20k on these a dont get it can geting somthing really nice for at m3 or sothing lol
please invest in a proper ring grinder. doing it by hand never gives a straight edge, i wouldn't be getting an engine built by a company without the proper tools. this is not slagging your company off i find the vids very good just shocked you are filing rings down by hand.
The whole idea of the video was to show the method in which people can adopt at home making sure that the edges are parallel and free from burring. Thanks for the feedback - the comments are appreciated regardless.
Super informative video guys 😎 love this
Love how organised you guys are, I can tell this ain't your first rodeo 👌
Very interesting and technical video and very skilled mechanic👍
Thank you so much 😊
Thanks for this Ben
Really enjoyed the build

Excellent tutorial guys thanks for sharing!
Welcome and thanks for the feedback; we really do appreciate it 🙌
Im busy getting everything ready for my complete rebuild! Thank you for a informative video gents!
Cheers
This is a very good video for some one trying to learn about engines because they go in to a lot of detail about the engine
We have the sleeves to suit each side so we use them; avoids any damaged.
Thanks for the input and for watching 🙌
Your videos making me wana do the build myself....
🙌🙌🙌
Great video, really enjoyed it 👍
A mk3 RS or ST engine rebuild in the future would be good 😁

Everything great about this video bar the interruption from who ever that is lmao right when your trying to show where to seal lmao 🤣
What ring gap size did you use on this particular build/engine? Thanks and great informative video

What’s ring gap size for big power over 400?
I would of thought that you would of stated clearances before and after ?

Hi, so I take it the days of plastigauge for the shell bearings are long gone then.

i didn't know max branning was a master mechanic lol
This must be the tenth or twentieth comment about our Max B ;)
i want to know what are the tapets clearances for uprated cam shafts like new man cams ive seen there are diffrent tapet sizes

Hi guys ,what should be healthy 225 engine compression ratio in PSI or bar please 🙏
Do you have to use lube when dropping the piston in or can you also spit on it?🤔😉
Not sure how to answer that question - what you do in your own time is your own business I suppose lol
Great video that
Cheers: glad you enjoyed
Do you guys do lingered builds for Volvo B5254T7 too?
Just watching you put the crank bearings in and wow you haven't soaked them in oil first or is that too much old school lol
I really enjoyed this video, great work guys! Also, Is it possible to use with this engine the intake camshaft from a Volvo 2.4i (C30/S40/V50/C70)engine? Will it provide any performance gains?
We generally stick to Newman or similar camshafts when hunting for power. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the comment/question! 🙌

hey guys, I've been looking for a service/repair manual for the 2010 Focus RS Mk2, any idea where I can buy one?

How much 518 did you use roughly ? Just £55 a 50ml tube here lol 😆 but obviously need it. Is 100ml a rough estimate of use of more ?
Does anyone know the thread size of the 12 & 5 crank cradle bolts not the main caps ?

The block is machined differently for the the thrust bearings, you won’t be able to fit them anywhere else.

If it’s not Linered, it’s always gets shims so yes sir 👍
