Making Jason scared of water is like Freddy being afraid of garden sheds.
This got me in stitches
Actually this is 100% true but I still love this movie though but yeah too true!
Ya but the reason I always let it slide is because it only shows jason afraid of water in his dream basically, so that's not really that weird, actually kinda makes sense in a weird way, I mean what the hell else could jason f****** Voorhees be afraid of anyway that would any more sense than that
Or boiler rooms.
Get a life.
The final appearance of Robert Englund as Freddy... until 2018 when he guest starred on The Goldbergs in a guest spot haunting Beverly's dream.
The last appearance of Freddy then.
not now recently in late 2019 early 2020 robert put the make-up on one last time for a make a wish kid . robet englend for a man famous for playing a pedo murderer that man has class for days
What kid in 2019 even knows who Freddy is
@@kenhammscousin4716 Likely a few, since some of their parents may love horror movies.
I never realized till your review that Freddy vs. Jason totally feels Scream-esque. Which is crazy that Williamson's influence on horror was still going strong in 2002/2003.
Classic Snob episode! I remember when this one came out back when I was the exact same age as I am right now.
Sambou Jaiteh Lmfao
The memories yo
your old
But the comment will never age. 😐
Ok the nostalgia is truly getting out of hand.
"JaSoN Is AfRaId Of WaTeR" lives in a lake in this movie
Exactly. It's as senseless as an arsonist being afraid of fire.
So hilarious and nonsensical then ?
whatever one might think about the movie in general...but Jason turning the cornfield rave of these assorted highshool creeps into a bloodfest is this movie's highlight
Hey I don't know if you even read these but I saw you at comic con today and it was a real surprise. I just really wanted to say I'm really glad I got to meet you and again, I love your content.
The actor playing Freddy's final role in the serie had his final bow to the world with a wink to the camera and his laughter echoing into the night.
Wow...
Yea, basically saying I'm not dead yet *haahhahahaha*
And the nightmare continues.
They were going to make two more films, but couldn't get the rights to Ash Williams....ah well.
Sorry for the late comment, but I love the way you put this.
But as poetic as that is, I hope we get one more, and I don't think Freddy's cameo in that sitcom counts, haha.
I remember when I first saw the trailer, having never actually sat down and watched a Nightmare or Friday the 13th movie, this felt like a big deal. It's STILL one of my favorites, and frankly has a more coherent plot and character motivation than some other crossover movies I could name (as well as a better final battle). I went in to see: 1) gratuitous nudity, 2) creative kills, and 3) Freddy and Jason go absolutely ripshit on each other. And it delivered all 3!
I'm still waiting for one of the movies to use purple NES Jason.
With the teal mask
At least the 2017 Friday The 13th video game used it
It will be Dumb and Unrealistic (not to be Mean).
2:36 - "Director Ronny Yu wanted someone taller."
Ken Kirzinger is 6'5" while Kane Hodder is 6'3". A mere two inches.
He also wanted Kirzinger because his vision of Jason was the same of Boris Karloff as Frankenstein, that's why he walks so clunky here.
It's also not true, since Ronny didn't choose to recast.
As my mom used to say : "2 inches can make all the difference in the world"
@@TheHaddonfieldRegistry everyone involved _except_ Ronnie Yu says it was Yu's decision. Yu asked New Line, New Line said he could if he wanted to. After the big backlash, Yu lied and said New Line demanded it because Hodder wanted too much money. Despite the fact that Hodder produced faxes and emails showing he had offered to take a stuntman's salary instead of an actors one in order to be in the film, as Freddy vs Jason was his literal dream project. So yeah, it was Yu and don't believe his absolute nonsense that he had no choice or was somehow forced into it.
So I'm only two inches shorter than Kane Hodder? Cool
What this film needed was a strong dosis of Kung Fu kicking Busta Rhymes
It would have fit either of these franchises tone and atmosphere better than the Halloween franchise.
5:51
Actress - "Oops, I stuttered. Should we do that take again?
Director - "KEEP ROLLING!"
Four takes and somehow that was the best one
I always like that though cos people stutter in real life
Spot on lmao
They were drunk
Little known fact Robert England’s stunt double for this film was none other than WWE wrestler Rey Mysterio
For real?
Damn that actually makes some sense
It was quite faithful more towards Freddy's lore with acknowledgement being part of his power source. Which hasn't been mentioned since the first one.
While it seems to skim over Jason's lore like they've only read the box covers or just seen one of the later films like Takes Manhattan. Which to be fair a lot of the sequels skimmed over the lore for the Friday the 13th series.
Considering, Jason himself wasn't really a killer in the first movie, I think, it's kinda hard to talk about Jason's lore in the first place.
Looking back at this film, I appreciate the fact that it tried to do something interesting with the plot, rather than mashing Freddy and Jason together like a child playing with action figures.
@@BraUnY74 Yeah, Jason’s lore is all over the place hence why the crossover movie, focused more on Freddys, whose lower was more or less cohesive.
Which at the core is just him being the subconscious bogeyman of Springwood.
Happy 20th anniversary to this masterpiece.
If you guys want to see a much better Freddy Vs Jason fight, there's a comic series out there for you. They also get Ash from the Evil Dead involved. It's quite the smackdown.
R.I.P. John Saxton "Justice for Saxton"
It's Saxon not saxton
I think it was New Line that wanted a new Jason. And yeah, Jason being afraid of water was dumb. The writers said that they wanted the plot point of Jason being afraid of drowning because that's how he originally died, but all the rewrites made it seem more like he was just afraid of water.
Ohhhh Boyyyyy!!! It's actually kinda awesome to wake up and see the Snob waiting and ready to go to brighten up my morning. Thanks Mr. Snob!!
In the years since this review, Robert Englund's cameo in Stranger Things 4 became a great farewell to Freddy (and a passing of the torch/claws).
He's attached to the in-development MAX TV series, and has said he'll be playing freddy in it.
The only reason the original Elm Street movies only hinted at what he did was because the studio told Craven he couldnt put it that blatantly in a movie
The fictional drug hypnocil made its first appearance back in Nightmare 3, so that was a good mining of the franchise lore. We see that in its first appearance, it was used experimentally to help kids ward off Freddy for just a little while, buying time while they figured out what was going on. But in this movie we saw authority figures misuse it, drugging kids to the point of putting them in comas.
11:03 based on an earlier scene, I'm pretty sure the implication is supposed to be that he's not powerful enough at this point to cause damage outside of the dreams.
"Jason is also in hell due to his porn habit"
That is such an underrated joke.
Freddy: "save Pamela
Jason: ........ *Think about yelling Why Did You Say that Name*.
Then they go and fight Pinhead
This dialogue was to deep for us, simple mortals
Jeru Henderson
That was about the humanity of the characters not the fact that both characters had a mother of the same name
I am sick of those jokes about the same name thing when they were quite fucking clearly going for what I just described the name thing was a trigger leading to the point of their truce it wasn’t the actual fucking point of their truce
Sorry if I’m being to troll like I’m just sick and tired of that reference, meme, joke, whatever the fuck it is at this point
Trunks Vegeta Briefs lol hit a little close to home eh?
Jeru Henderson you mean Ash
What batman's mother is from krypton... Oh snap huh!?
I stumbled upon this channel and now I can't stop watching!!
It's impossible for me to see Zack Ward and not think of The Postal Dude.
That movie absolutely nailed its source material and is hilariously enough Uwe's best work.
1:58-2:03 They cut that line out of the movie because it would've sounded too cheesy in context. Proof that you don't need to add every single one liner in the trailer for your movie.
@Nightmare1398 and the director told him it was a trailer shot and never ever in any cut of the film. It wasn't cut for being too cheesy it wasn't ever part of the film. Its not in the shooting script and it wasn't in the test audience cuts either, nor the initial workprint.
Nope, was never in any version. Was always just for the trailer.
@@medes5597 I was only going by the deleted scenes on the DVD and the commentary for that cut scene.
@@troin3925very late, but in either Crystal Lake Memories or Never Sleep Again, I can't remember which off hand, Ronnie Yu is asked about it and he says it was just for the trailer.
However I do remember the deleted scene commentary implying it was in the movie, but I think it was a New Line suggestion for the trailer. It's definitely not in the earlier cuts or shooting script
Should've done more with it, but all in all it's great.
I have to admit, I love this movie, and this might be my favorite look for Jason
This movie came out when i was 12 and i was super excited for it. I watched the trailer so many times, was on the website any chance i got. And my aunt took me and my cousin to see it the weekend came out. It blew me away. Needless to say this movie holds a special place in my heart lol
This crossover reminds me of. The classic Frankenstein versus the Wolfman.
But those were great classics unlike this film
Robert Preston The fuck are you talking about this was a fine movie despite it’s flaws
@@robertpreston2220 this movie shits on every universal classic horror movie crossover
@@ajscrewu so very true
@@robertpreston2220 This movie IS a great classic lol.
Freddy:(Cuts off Kelly Rowland's nose) Got your nose
Doug: and some shitty CGI!
This movie really needs a sequel
7:21 The Classic tag team of Rapey McGee and Strangley McHookerfetish to the rescue!
7:29 + 8:56 oh. Nevermind then.
Hey, you know I can’t sleep, unless I’m folded in to a taco 🤨.
Thanks for the re-upload! I was ticked off when it was taken off so soon after release, after we'd been waiting so long for it.
A best of from the same year, well played
Her nose might not have come off in thebreal world because he wasn't strong enough yet, like when he couldn't kill the boy when he first got to Elm St
Raymond Hall that scene with the boy his glove went right through the kid. It’s not the same at all.
@@cineMADvocate At that point he was so weak he couldn't even hurt them dreamwise.
Plus Freddy picks and chooses what affects the real world and what doesn’t
Laugh too hard at that “lose my breath” line when Kelly got hers... it hurts now
I dont think Jason was in Hell I'm fairly sure thats Jason's heaven
I was one of the few people who enjoyed this film, but not in the way the director intended. As soon as Jason folded the guy in half with the mattress, it instantly became a silly, ridiculous comedy flick in my eyes. The more it tried to be a serious horror/slasher movie, the funnier it was to watch the whole thing fall flat on its face.
SoundofSapphire same, it's a pretty fun movie. It's dumb as hell, filled with nu metal and the acting mostly sucks. But it's not boring, funny and has lots of gore.
Was it trying to be serious?? I didn’t get that vibe from the film at all. Seemed just like a movie that wanted to have fun all around.
SoundofSapphire All my life well my life since 2003 I've enjoyed the hell out of this film. It's a total silly fun blast of a time!
I also saw this opening day, August 2003. All New Line F13 entires are so over the top. Part 8 barely escapes the same thing. Paramount > New Line.
The director made bride of chucky dude I don’t think it tried being a serious slasher
The real tragedy of this movie is that we almost got Halloween vs. Hellraiser with Doug Bradley, Clive Barker, and John Carpenter all signed on to do it.
I hate this timeline.
The Nightmare theme is my ringtone. I thought my phone was ringing every commercial break xD
How can I do that?
9:17 - So the town that's actively TRYING to forget it's child killer memory...has a news station with said killer's last name. Good job.
I mean Krgr is a reference to the first movie
But that station only appeared during a death scene so I was 100% positive that that was a product of the dream
Thanks for the reuploud 😎
So glad this is reuploaded
Great meeting you today, Brad!
I can't help it. I enjoy this film.
3:58-4:02 i remember these clips fondly!
Holy shit you were really firing on all cylinders in this one it's hilarious
This showdown was epic...🤘🏼💯✔️ I went to the theater and seen this flick🎞twice with two different people...👍🏼 It was indeed exciting times for both of the franchises...👌🏼
Thanks Brad!
I'm guessing they didn't have enough budget to cast the real Jay and Silent Bob
👀 burnboy was in rehab, I think 🤔
I dont see how you can be Team Shelly but not Team Linderman 🤔
They're both in the Nice Guy League
We need Jason vs Myers
Yeah baby !
Imagine that. Those two clashing out, all sluggish. I can't even decide who would win.
Myers is just a dude. Jason is an unstoppable, regenerating juggernaut.
Myers is also a regenerating juggernaut. The two of them are practically the same, style-wise, they just use their ungodly strength and near-invincibility to kill everyone. Jason from 6 onwards was probably the stronger of the two, but it'd be a pretty boring match. Unless they started screwing around more with the Celtic lore and runes and shit.
@@cowboisteen7851 Jason wins because Jason is a brute
I'd like to see Freddy vs Angela Baker
Make a sequel for fuck’s sake! It’s been 20+ years! We have to let one of them win! Plz New Line!
I agree, nothing beats, Jail...
"Win Dad Win!"
Was that always there?
Welcome back!!
I may be remembering wrong, but weren't there plans to have other franchises added to the mix ? Like there were Evil Dead references in Jason goes to Hell (Pamela Voorhees was into the occult, nice to hear... 13 years later, maybe more if we look at the franchise's timeline) but I think Hellraiser was also considered.
I just need to read all the comics. I did read Nightdance from the Halloween franchise, but it was so bleak, I don't even know, haha.
Maybe I'll take a look at Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash sometime
Yes, keep spoiling us with awesomeness, Snob!
Glad you uploaded this. I love this movie and your content
100th comment. All I can say is you've been building up to this for who knows how long, and you didn't disappoint.
Scott Farkis!!!!!!! LMAO I hadn't caught that before! 😂 Awesome
NICE!
I missed the Review when it was released~
And then giorno came and put them both on an infinite death loop
What?
Love the thumbnail
Recasting Jason was a big mistake, as well as dropping the classic themes of both horror Icons.
Everything else was ok in my opinion. I had a blast watching it.
Why didn't they get a killer with a power drill for the slumber party part.
When Jason just leaps out of the water to get the victim, he's just trying to say, "ohmygosh, I was SO SCARED! HOLD ME!"
I'm sure 2020 will be fine
So she said “Freddy” bar closed her eyes and that brought Freddy right to her (or vise versa)?
Raining cheeseburgers! *closes eyes*
Damnit
“Clay Walsh theme” literally makes everything rapey
The only way everyone forgot about Freddy is if this movie is in fact taking place 400 years later on Earth 2
I think the makers of this film half assed the film so they could do go straight to the Freddy and Jason fights.
It’s been 20 years and this is not only one of my favorite summer flicks but one of my favorite horror movies too
I actually didn’t find out about this movie apart from one trailer and a newspaper article
Two of the most famous slasher icons finally come face-to-face in this unique crossover
The project actually spent so much time in development hell plus the fact that ‘Friday the 13th’ was with Paramount and ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ belonged to New Line Cinema
But once the rights switched over Jason Vorhees and Freddy Kruger could finally be in the same movie, it was just a matter of how to bring them together
Director Ronny Yu from ‘Bride of Chucky’ delivers some terrific gore, fun action set pieces, and has great chemistry with these two slasher villains thanks to writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift
The soundtrack is one of my absolute favorites, it has a brisk running time, and Robert Englund gives the most energy he’s had playing the killer with knives on his hands
New actor Ken Kirzinger isn’t too shabby either as Jason being brutal not letting anything phase him much less a monster from the dream world
This was also my first introduction Monica Keena, Kelly Rowland, Jason Ritter, and Katherine Isabelle
When the movie is actually about Freddy and Jason it kicks ass, there’s great doses of humor too with slick visuals
Even Freddy Krueger gets a new makeup job as we see how much prosthetics have changed
There’s a glorious self-awareness that you can’t help but notice
The final showdown is the absolute best part where fans get the best of both these killers duking it out
Although when the movie isn’t focusing on that it’s the same ol slice and dice formula with disposable human characters even if they do match the 2000s era
The conspiracy plot to cover up Freddy Kruger is interesting but it doesn’t really go anywhere
Yet an overall theme of children paying for their parents crimes is apparent throughout
The film was still a box office hit even if the reviews were mixed at best paying homage to both franchises that have lasted for over 40 years
Whatever the case the movie still is loads of fun to watch the bloody carnage unleashed by these two horror icons that definitely came from a rocky start
If remember right the original idea which was later done as a comic was Freddy vs Jason vs Army of Darkness where would have had Ash fighting both. Its why the Necronomicon was in the house in Jason goes to Hell
I'm not sure why everyone wanted this match-up. In dreams, Freddy is unbeatable; in reality, Jason is unbeatable (more or less). You don't even really "fight" Freddy, you just figure out how to exploit the bizarre metaphysics of his realm against him. At least Jason versus Michael Myers would be two unstoppable juggernauts locked in combat, like Heracles and Antaeus, and not an old man boxing a giant.
I agree 100%
Christ I love this movie. Yes it changed some of the lore, but when the movie is fun, who cares? Considering all of the stupid jank that happened in the previous movies, this one was pretty tame in comparison. Also the fact that it's more of an action movie than a horror movie is a big plus imo. Yes, the original franchises were horror movies, but the darn title is called Freddy vs Jason. You expect a rumble, not a spooky crawl fest
I love your love for Grady
Started watching your reviews last week! I love them! Especially the War room episode. Are you going to do the 2009 Friday the 13th?
I remember seeing this odd TV show called Freddies Nightmares does anyone else?
Mathieu Leader
Yeah the DVDs available online (the only way to get it in America)
I have a dvd-r set l got at comic con.
Also watched it on UPN when it was on.
I love the "Dead Man on Campus" reference at 16:28. "My name is Cliff. Brother of Joe. I got me some crack! I need me some ho! ...Everybody say yeah!!!" Lol
I actually prefer Jacket Jason. Michael already wears overalls, so the jacket sets Jason apart.
Justice for Saxon!
RIP John Saxon.
Which means highest grossing budget means nothing because just because some people went to see it doesn't mean everyone is going to like it as people all have different opinions.
Now I want Jay and Silent Bob to go against Freddy in the dreamworld!
At one point Jason was supposed to meet cheech and Chong
The snob in me finds it highly offensive that it only takes less than 5 months for something to become a part of the "best of" the cinema snob collection! The next thing you'll be telling me that Kramer vs. Kramer isn't about two has been comedians yelling racial slurs that don't apply to either at one another!
"Shouldn't her nose have come off in the real world, too?"
Yes. Yes, it should have. Good point, Cinema Snob!
Well Kristens mother died in 3, but was back in 4. Continuity........ what’s that? 🤔
@@randalgraves6979 Well these films like to screw with continuity, eh?
Halloween & Friday the 13th, even Wrong Turn. I’m sure there’s more. But still entertaining.
He wasnt powerful enough yet remember he couldnt even touch the guy before her.then he could effect the girls nose then effect people in dreams and the real world.
Good metalhead soundtrack.
@10:37 Evangeline Lilly?! You got some Hobbit mustard on my Freddy VS. Jason sandwich.
overall though this movie gave us what we wanted and thats enough lol
How did you notice the chick from ant man and the wasp! Awesome!
RAMPAGE!
FOOTAGE OWNED BY PARAMOUNT
I can answer why her nose was not sliced off in the real world because at that time Freddy wasn't strong enough it was the fear that added to his power.
Brandon Fletcher is probably the best actor in those movies. Say what you want about the quality of the movies he's in but he always seems to give it his best shot. Maybe a bit over the top at times if I had to be picky though. I think he's pretty awesome though.
And Zack Ward, him playing Freddy was fucking on point!
9:18 the channel call sign is KRGR, for Krueger. Nice
