WCW was a very interesting company. They had some amazing talents like Raven, y2j, Eddie, Benoit and even Austin. But they drive all of them away only to push Hogan. They pushed the past over future.
Starrcade 1983 holds up really well aside from a weak undercard. Ric Flair's entrance felt so dramatic. The Dog Collar match is definitely one of the most brutal things I have seen. I also owe it to myself to watch Starrcade 1985.
You botched the Magnum TA year. I can see why you’d think the Ronnie Garvin year was the substitute, but no. They turned Nikita face in 86 to replace Magnum. And yeah 85 is the best.
@@spetterman2916 Probably because they've been in so many different promotions. Unfortunately that's somewhat watered down the prestige of that championship
@@FrankieboyJrThat's fine for something like Bash at the Beach but not Starrcade, Starrcade has got way too much history to be reduced to a mere TV special, if Cody owed the rights to it he would undoubtedly make it the biggest PPV of the year for AEW because his Dad made it.
I absolutely LOOOOVED Starrcade 1995's WCW vs. New Japan format. I only wish the Flair title win had been a little less dirty. Flair beat Macho Man at an earlier PPV by his own dirty means without the rest of the Horsemen. I wish he had done the same at Starccade 1995.
I've been watching wcw from 96 onwards and Kevin Nash was ridiculously over in 98. Someone had to break the streak eventually and it protected Goldberg too because it took interference from Hall with a tazer and a jacknife for Nash to pin Goldberg. The problem lied with what happened a few weeks later on Nitro with the finger poke of doom. Nash and Hogan were still massively over throughout 99 though.
If it wasn't for the fingepoke of doom I think that Nash's victory wouldnt be so criticized, its hard to think in this match without knowing what comes next....
It was the Fingerpoke of Doom that most have issues with, also putting the title back on z hogan (barf) c and keeping the NWO going when it should have died the year prior
5:18 “The product of the quality” haha Seriously though I really appreciate all of the teams hard work to deliver content to us year round. So I think you can be forgiven for the occasional slip up.
Really, I don't know how people can prefer other channels or even call this crap. This is sports entertainment in a UA-cam channel like nowhere. Funny thing: I was about to comment on this, but decided to see if anything else did. And then I saw your comment.
Funny you mention the idea of an AEW Starrcade, because I'm planning an AEW invasion of WWE in my 2k20 Universe mode, with the big blowoff super show being a revived Starrcade.
Tully and Magnum still holds up to this day. Two guys with a long feud who were completely believable in their hatred of each other. The finish is still one of the most brutal in wrestling history with the broken chair into Tully's eye if only for the screaming Tully did. Also funny that Tessa is the daughter of Tully and the stepdaughter of Magnum. They're forever linked even now.
the one with malenko and dragon was I think the only time a wwe title got defended on wcw. at the time dragon I believe had the j crown which included an 80's wwe title of cruiserweight vintage that pretty much got sent to japan and other than in wcw never came back to us.
Every WCW television champion ranked from worst to best because I think that is an underrated title that was actually one of the highlights of WCW television no pun intended
The 1997 edition of Starrcade had a number of matches with replacements or cancellations. In addition to the aforementioned Raven/Saturn substitution, DDP substituted Flair in a match against Curt Hennig, due to a Flair injury. However, that replacement was done a few weeks prior and thus no "bait and switch." On the other hand, Nash no-showed Starrcade for reasons, so instead of a match with the Giant, we got Giant destroying Hall after a Hall promo.
Nash didn’t want to job to Giant, despite all signs pointing to him getting his ass kicked, Especially when Nash almost killed the Giant trying and failing to power bomb him… if Sting had destroyed Hogan, the show is somewhat saved
I’m not the first to point out that Magnum’s wreck was in ‘86, not ‘87, and he was replaced by a newly turned face Nikita. However, something else I did catch that nobody else has mentioned is in 1984, Tully and Steamboat were fighting for the NWA Television Title, not the US Title. It really was a great match. Tully went over on Steamboat, then lost the title to Dusty not too long after. This was one of the main incidents that caused Steamboat to believe Dusty was burying him, so he was in the WWF a few months later, just in time for the first WrestleMania.
As a kid, I had the VHS of the Starrcade with lethal lottery battle bowl and I loved it ..... even though I knew it was crappy. I am a sucker for high concept matches.
StarrCade 98 and then the eventual Finger Poke of Doom freaking BROKE my heart. That's when my mom had to tell me wrestling wasn't real, I was so upset. 😢
All the internet marks and podcasters always trash Starrcade '91. As a nine year old kid, I had never even heard of professional wrestling before seeing a commercial for the show. My grandmother had a descrambler that allowed her to watch PPVs for free, so I begged her to tape it for me just because the commercial was cool. Two days later she handed me a tape with "Stupid Wrestling" on the label, and I am still obsessed 32 years later. That show that everyone says is one of the worst ever is the show that made me fall in love with the business.
Not just 85 ..but Starrcade 86 was also held simultaneously in Greensboro & Atlanta. 86 is a great year and should have ranked higher because it's literally filled with great gimmick matches.
Actuall Magnum TA was hurt in 1986 and a Face Nikita wrestled Ric Flair in that Starrcade. 1n 1987 Ricky Morton was supposed to win the World Title from Flair but he said no because he thought they wanted to break up the RR Express and it went to Ron Garvin instead.
I guess i was one of the few that Liked Ronnie Garvin winning the belt ! I popped huge as a kid !!! I mean we all knew he wouldnt hold it long . As Flair ALWAYS won the gold back fairly shortly no matter who it was !
