Thank you for the invite! Glad to talk experiences with this series with such fine people! Still hoping for remakes being what gets the series back into the US.
I loved listening to your playthroughs while I grinded dungeons and picked flowers in WoW back in the day. Been a fan of EB since it came out. I remember scouring Nintendo Power and drawing the characters while I eagerly anticipated its arrival. I loved JRPGs back then, and seeing one set in a modern setting was a welcome breath of fresh air. The most memorable Christmas gift I ever received was the EB big box cart. Could go on and on, but man...I love this series.
Same here Chuggaa. On the subject, your Mother 3 playthrough was what showed me that videogames could be more than just Mario and Pokemon. I was kind of on the older side at the time to just be getting into videogames (13 years old), but my parents had recently allowed me my first console, a DS. I was interested in Paper Mario after having played a demo of TTYD at a hotel, and that's how I found your channel and subscribed. You were just finishing up your Mother 3 playthrough at the time, and one of those videos was the first to show up on my subscription feed. I watched the whole series and was entranced at how wacky and tragic the game could simultaneously be. I was shocked that a videogame could make me cry. While I've played and loved many other games over the years, Mother 3 will always hold a special place in my heart, and you're the one I have to thank for that.
If they could use the same art style as the Link's Awakening remake, it would be so cute and still take it a step further than what it was before! Also I watch your LPs for the series multiple times, Emile. Thank you for introducing me and my sister to this sentimental story and strange little world.
Mal and I loved being apart of this, and it came out SO GOOD! The attention to detail during the b-roll was incredible and added so much to the entire piece. Great flow throughout, and an honor to share the screen with so many talented folks. Bravo again, this is a video to be very proud of. (And I hope it leads even more people to play EarthBound!)
As soon as I heard about this, which admittedly seems to be late, My first thought was “if they didn’t get Stephen and Mal then they didn’t get the right set of Mother fans.” It just didn’t my seem right to make this retrospective without you guys.
This was one of the best videos I've ever seen. I am lucky to work with you Zion. Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories. That hour went by quick. Mother Forever!
It’s better considering he’s not even that big of an Earthbound fan (he likes it, but has never played past Onett since he doesn’t like RPGs) and overall a bit of an odd choice for this video
Hey there, Derek 😋 Love your show, love your podcast. Thanks for introducing me to Earthbound. (wouldn't have ever tried it out if it weren't for your old review. Great game.)
I mean, he's right, nobody but Itoi can make Mother 4 actually good. After all, it's a series so personal to him. Plus, I don't want Toby Fox to turn the Earthbound characters into furries that try to manipulate you emocionally with cringy Tumblr-like humor...
I think that since Itoi will not be involved with a sequel, a remake of one of the three games might be a better option. Modernizing them a little bit for new audiences, maybe reviving that clay aesthetic in 3D and polishing the few outdated aspects of the games. Or a 16 bit remake of the first one which is the hardest to get into, remake it in the style of 2 and 3 so that you can sell all of them in a coherent package.
That was beautiful. Thank you Nintendo Life for creating this stunning -video- short film about my favorite series of all time. I loved hearing the unique perspectives of your guests; having all of these longtime EarthBound megafans like Stephen & Mal in one place made for an unforgettable retrospective! I especially appreciated the early footage of Tyler getting EarthBound for the first time, and that recording of the game being played in the background of Brittney’s birthday…such rare, cool time capsules to share with us. The cinematography was brilliant too, contextualizing Shesez’ friend’s dirty bedroom from the '90s with an empty bowl of Fruity Pebbles and a lonely Pokémon card was perfect. All of the small presentation touches make this something really special, much like the games themselves.
"I know it's hard, but no crying until the end" Cue my tears streaming down my face as soon as it started. Thank you Zion for putting this entire thing together and for everyone who participated and gave their input. This was such a treat to watch.
This video is so beautifully made, the Mother series is such a deep, upbeat and emotional roller coaster where you live every second of it and that makes this series one of Nintendo’s shining diamonds that I wish even more people would see it for what this amazing creation is all about. Thank you Nintendo Life and all those who signed up to talk about the Mother series in this light and for making this video in the first place. Have a great day 👍
The reason it's so upsetting Mother 3 is not officially localized: we want to share the experience brought about by this game and the series as a whole!
_"I was talking to Lou Reed the other day and he said that the first Velvet Underground record sold 30,000 copies in the first five years. The sales have picked up in the past few years, but I mean, that record was such an important record for so many people. _*_I think everyone who bought one of those 30,000 copies started a band!"_* -Brian Eno, _Musician_ Magazine, October 1982 This is a rather famous quip about the influence of The Velvet Underground, one of my all-time favourite bands; a niche, underground rock group from the late 1960s that wound up inspiring, essentially, the _entire genres_ of punk rock in the late-70s, and later the alt-rock & grunge movements of the late-80s and early-90s. They would often make songs that abused the senses, with lyrics about drug abuse, casual sex, BDSM, etc.; adult-oriented music about "life in the gutter", to quote one critic, that's commonplace in music now to the point of cliché but which most bands of that era weren't even _allowed_ to sing about. And as Eno put it above, their taboo records sold _very_ poorly, but their influence on music in the decades to come was, I dare say, unrivaled. Their song "Heroin" in particular is, for my money, one of the most important songs ever recorded. I often think about EarthBound in a similar light: a game too weird, perhaps even too "deviant", for its time but which struck an incredible chord with those who _did_ get to play it. It influenced its players in an incredible way, and that's shown in the games we've seen in the almost 30 years since its release: Undertale & Deltarune, the Lisa trilogy, Yume Nikki; and a number of indie titles so countless that "EarthBound-like" as a term has almost become its own genre, in the same way "Roguelike" did, to properly describe them. Similarly almost to the point of cliché, where nowadays "quirky EarthBound-inspired indie RPG about depression" is a meme that some roll their eyes at. To me, though, EarthBound is an "artist's artwork," one of those rare and truly special works that inspires creative people to want to make something like it themselves. I often find myself rehashing and recycling Eno's quote in talking about the game: _EarthBound_ only sold about a hundred thousand copies in the States when it first came out, but everyone who bought one made their own video game. _🎵 I don't know just where I'm going; but I'm gonna try for the Kingdom, if I can... 🎵_
Love that TF is sticking with that goofy text-to-speech voice he used for the Deltarune stream. It somehow works perfect with the little annoying dog avi
We had a Super Famicom since it was cheaper than a SNES and I played earthbound in Japanese. It's my sole memory of being able to read kana and asking my mom what the kanji meant whenever one came up. I was 8 and life was simple 🧡 This video hit me with so much nostalgia. Thank you so much Nintendo Life!
the interpolation of pixel art perler beads against still life backdrops *really* makes me want an Earthbound remake with an art style like that 😍 perfection.
THE EDITING HERE WAS SO PROFESIONAL- Felt straight out of a TV Documental! I've never played Earthbound, but this video made me want to try it out, specially now that it is in NSO 👀
It’s so funny to me that Earthbound was considered this “under appreciated” game. In 1995, everyone I knew was well aware of its release. Not everyone bought it but they knew about it. And then a few of my friends and I bought that big ass box. Glad more people found out about its brilliance later on but it was even more amazing back in the mid 90s.
@@josephboehmer1245 The advertising campaign in NA alone was worth $2m and they barely recouped those costs _globally._ It was a historical failure. Outlets such as GamePro even reported a record-breaking number of complaints over the scratch-and-sniff ads. In the end, it sold a little over 1/5th of the copies that it did in Japan, which were already fairly low compared to other Nintendo blockbusters, even despite the considerably larger consumerbase. At ~140,000 copies, it was a record low for first-party game sales for Nintendo in NA.
@@thecunninlynguist It WAS an attention grabber though. How many ads have come and went that we can’t remember but Earthbounds “bad” approach is still remembered by many?
I hate the fact that whenever Mother 3 comes up in conversation the game itself is overshadowes by the fact that it isn’t released yet. It’s such a beautiful real game that deserves so much more, and that so many people deserve to experience
Okay, what the hell is Scott the Woz doing on this video. We all know his thoughts on RPGs… so don’t start fronting like you care about Earthbound Scott. I’m onto you.
Uh… those weren’t sunflowers This was great tho Edit: please no, keep Toby Fox away from Mother. Undertale has a completely different vibe. Mother is done, and its perfect as it is Edit2: I also think any “remake” or “remaster” should keep to sprites, just higher definition and better lighting etc
I lost my mother to cancer when I was 27 to cancer. I knew Mother 3 existed, but I never knew there was a fan translation until a few years after the fact. I had not until that time played a game with such emotional depth. Dealing with death and loss, seeing Flint lose it when he found out his wife died, to see that Lucas rarely leave his mom's gave since she died, it touched my soul in a way that hardly anything up until that time had, I had shut down emotionally inside for a few years. Mother 3 helped me cry again.
Mother 3 is my favorite in the series and one of my favorite games of all time, but Earthbound will always be the one that left a massive impact on me. It's the reason I love JRPGs as much as I do now and a lot of my sense of humor definitely comes from the goofiness of the game. Amazing video. :)
Man this series is just amazing I might of been born a month after mother 3 released but man I still remember going over to my cousins house and playing earthbound on a emulator intel late at night. Then when I moved away man I still keep on remembering playing the game. Then when Nintendo released it on switch online that was the only game I played for like 4 months.
I remember I first played Earthbound in middle school after my curiosity was piqued after playing as Ness in Melee, that was more than 10 years ago now. No other game has taken it's place in my life. It's so sweet, so memorable. Then I played Mother 3 and that made me cry a lot. Now I work with kids and there's this one that was so impressed by me using Ness in Ultimate that he's his favorite character now. I've yet to hear him talk about the game, but I hope he has a wonderful experience when he finally plays it.
I’ve been thinking of what to write here for too long, so here goes. The MOTHER series changed my life. I know that saying so may be a bit cliché, but it’s true. I was in my early teens when I got into the series, and I kind of consider it the point that separates my life as a child and my life as a… young adult, I guess. Suddenly I was interested in art, and the impact it could have on others, and the passion of the people who poured their hearts and souls into it. Maybe more importantly, MOTHER 3 showed me the importance of love, of compassion, of kindness, of sympathy, and of empathy. Over the years these games, especially MOTHER 3, have not only changed my life, but saved it. No other works of art mean more to me. Thank you Shigesato Itoi, and thank you for making this video. I just hope more people take the time to experience this strange, funny, heartrending, and truly wonderful series.
When thid documentary came out i commented that i was still playing mother 3, i finished in june/july, and it has been the most importat piece of art in my life, thanks to it i got to love music, cinema, literature, cultures and art in general. Truly an underated mastepiece. (The only thing im left to do is play mother 1 but im waiting till mother encore is finished and reviwed to know which version of the game is best)
I picked up Earthbound for the SNES for $13 as a kid when I was at a flea market while camping at Carowinds for the weekend with my family. I had no idea what it was at the time as it was just the cart and no manual or box. I didn't have a computer or Nintendo Power at that time and so I went into Earthbound blind not even knowing what genre of game this would be when I popped it into my family's SNES. I'd never played anything like Earthbound and it was very intriguing. I didn't quite understand how it worked at first but eventually I got the hang of it and was hooked.
Amazing learning about so many people's experiences and perspectives on this franchise. I've never finished a Mother game myself, first tried EarthBound on Wii U VC in 2020, but I went back to it recently and I can't wait to fully experience the journey...
I believe my first encounter with ness was melee and I was like who the heck is this character and then I look at the models and it said earthbound and I was like oh okay and now I am playing the game and it is difficult, charming and weird. Right now I am liking the game heck I like rpgs anyways thanks for my cousin showing me Pokémon, which Pokémon was my first game I played when I was a kid.
I played through earth bound finally the first time about a month ago. The game play never felt special to me but what I experienced felt unique. It was weird for me to play a game for the experience and not the game play. I will say, the final boss in earthbound is one of the coolest final bosses I have ever experienced.
Omori, Undertale, Yumi Nikki, Lisa the Painful, and other games that I don't know yet but atleast I've assumed some of it where inspired by Mother. All of this doesn't exist if Mother doesn't also exist. Speaking of "No Dragons" well there's one in Mother 3 but it's not a boss fight, instead it's something that is a faith, a faith about two brothers awakening the dragons. To me I've discovered it because of Giygas and Undertale, my first game that I've played is Mother 3 that made me cry.
Earthbound is one of the only Nintendo series I’ve yet to dip my toes into, but man, it always warms my heart to see just how passionate fans are. The love that’s shared for these games by this community is astonishing, and is truly a testament to how special these games are. Seeing so many people from so many different parts of the UA-cam Gaming community come together to give this series the appreciation it deserves, that’s a magical thing, and we have you to thank for that Zion. I hope to one day share in the joy that is this series, and have my own Earthbound journey to look back fondly. ~ Rawk
WHOAAAAAAAHHHH. This is so amazing! I've never completed a mother or earthbound game but I really get it now, hearing how passionate everyone is about it and some of your history with it is amazing! Thank you for making this. Best quality content I've seen on UA-cam in so long
I would like to see a Nintendo switch version of earthbound. Even doing the series over but with Nintendo switch updated graphics. I would buy it in a heartbeat
I’m brand new to Earthbound, only recently playing it after its switch release, but it’s one of the most unforgettable games I’ve ever played! Amazing job on this documentary
As duster, this documentary brings me a lot of joy. Thank you to everyone who made this awesome masterpiece! And I still wish non japanese speaking people can officially play my game, maybe some day...
Long time viewer, first time commenter. Just wanted to say this was a lovely video. Having not played any game in the Earthbound series, it was still infectious to see the joy from everyone who loved the series in their own way. The Earthbound series has always felt inaccessible to me, and for obviously fair reasons, so much so that even when the NSO version was revealed it still didn't feel worth it to look into. But this video has changed my mind and after I knock a couple other games off the backlog, I'll be looking forward to giving this a shot on my Nintendo Switch :)
Take a melody Simple as can be Give it some words and Sweet harmony Raise your voices All day long now Love grows strong now Sing a melody of Love, oh love
When you are happy, with laughter to spare Fun is twice as fun with someone to share When you are lonely and full of despair Things aren't half as bad when somebody cares Maybe now you have figured it out That's what being a friend is about When you're looking for a shoulder you can cry on Won't you think about me? When you're looking for someone you can rely on Don't you ever doubt me I'll be there someway, somehow That's what being friends is about When you are restless and want room to breathe I will give you all the space that you need And when you're ready for my company I will come around, just call on me Maybe now you have figured it out That's what being a friend is about When you need someone who feels the way you do Won't you think about me? Someone who can pick you up when you are blue Don't you ever doubt me I'll be there someway, somehow That's what being friends is about I'm your friend 'till the end Count on me In the sunshine and the rain Paradise and back again Count on me Let me be a friend in need Let me be a friend indeed Count on me And if you ask me, you know that it's true There is not a thing that I wouldn't do I'd follow you to the ends of the earth That's how much I think our friendship is worth Maybe now you have figured it out That's what being a friend is about When there's something that you just don't understand Won't you think about me? I'll be more than glad to lend a helping hand Don't you ever doubt me I'll be there someway, somehow That's what being friends is about I'll be there someway, somehow That's what being friends is about I will swear to keep them (Let me know your problems) I will help you solve them (When your heart is aching) I will stop it breaking (When you are in danger) I am your guardian angel (I will stand beside you) Be the one to guide you (When your dreams are crumbling) Call me, I'll come running (That's what friends are all about)
Despite the sentiment of “no crying until the end”, this video had me bawling from start to finish. Thank you to everyone who worked on this video to shed such a beautiful and honorable light on how fantastic this series is. I am so elated knowing that the Mother series has changed so many lives and not just mine… I sincerely don’t think I would be here today if it wasn’t for this series. To put it bluntly, it literally saved my life. In general too, I always get a big smile on my face whenever you guys post something another related… keep up the amazing work!
This documentary is dope but I do have a major peeve with it... This is just another “been there, seen that” type situation with the MOTHER series, the vid talks about the most obvious and over-talked about things about the MOTHER series over and over again. That ain’t a bad thing, but the documentary comes off as super unoriginal and stale. Many videos about the MOTHER series over the years have done the same exact thing and it gets predictable and boring after the 100000th time of hearing it. This and many other videos like this always does at least one of these 3 things that makes the video predictable and stale: *1.) Praises MOTHER 2 way too much, when at least 75% of the things people praise about MOTHER 2 were taken and reused from MOTHER 1* *2.) Talks About how MOTHER 3 isn't localized for the like 100th time* *3.) Talks about how MOTHER 1 hasn't aged quite the best recently, but never really explains what makes MOTHER 1 so different and so ahead of it's time compared to other NES games and other NES JRPGs of it's era* All of these things have been done and said for decades now and I'm really getting a bit old and tired of it. These are just my 2 cents though, other than the entire documentary in my opinion being super stale, it's still dope how you managed to get so many guest stars and what have you for this project that I'm sure took a long time making. I give this documentary an solid *6.5/10* Stale and Boring when it comes to the actual said content of the video, but still entertaining nonetheless. This video would probably be better for people completely new or blind to the MOTHER series, but since I have been an avid MOTHER fans for more than a decade now, I've already seen these types of videos over and over again. Don't let my opinion if you see this as negative get to you though, if you enjoyed yourself making this project, then that's all that matters, not some random dude's opinion of it on the internet.
I can absolutely see where you're coming from in that regard. This video was created to celebrate the series while not spoiling the magic for the number of people who have yet to play the games.
I was playing yesterday and got to the Deep Darkness and made it to the Boss it was kicking my Butt!!! And Poo Sweeps in And saves the Day I was overwhelmed with emotion having Poo Back.
35:00 Big difference is Star Wars was much more of a collaborative effort than it gets credit for. Lucas was the creator, for sure, but Star Wars has always been more than him.
This turned out very good and glad so many contributed for this. Shout out to Stephenplays and Chuggaaconroy for getting into Earthbound. I've never had it as a kid and now it one my favorite RPGs. I've played thru Mother and then Mother 3 later on.
Finally watched it, this was great, i will play Earthbound eventually, but not through Switch Online as i dislike paying for services. One thing that stuck out to me was that someone played it and bought the house, then the rest talked about how alive the game felt, and that's the way i play Xenoblade Chronicles X, i feel like just messing around, living there until i buy my Skel. That's a modern game yet oddly enough Earthbound feels more alive since you can even buy food, so i'll give this game a go with this new mindset, thanks for this great video!
what did you think? Absolutely fell in love with the game after first renting it at blockbuster. Bought it w/ bday money a few months later. But I stupidly sold it to a friend for 20 bucks in high school.
@@thecunninlynguist It's amazing. It's difficult to explain what playing the game in 2022 is like, but I really love it and am thinking it will end up being in my top 2 or top 3 favorite RPGs of all time. It didn't feel dated at all. The "annoying" things in the game are supposed to be there and offer a test of perseverance to the player. Obviously, the story is second to none. The gameplay is nothing revolutionary, but it's also so fun to play because everything is so well paced. Dungeons are short-ish. Dialog is near perfect and almostr never feels burdensome. It's a very good game and worth playing in 2022 and beyond.
@@PestulonGaming given that it's supposed to be the "real" world the dungeons being as short as they are make some sense, because who in the right mind would want to build such extensive dungeons, lol. I wish more games would implement the odometer style HP/MP system. I've been saved a good amount of times by quickly ending the battle before my HP hits zero
What's the deal with the random guy who comes and takes your picture?? 😂😂. And then the fact that you order pizza and you have to stand around waiting for it to be delivered. - I love it.
Love that everyone contextualizes the marketing for earthbound. They did the best they could to appeal to American kids hopped up on sour spray. The japanese mother 3 commercial though (the one with the woman crying) is the perfect marketing
This was so nice. I played Earthbound and Mother 3 for the first time back to back this month and it's so quickly risen the ranks to be one of, if not my number 1, favorite series. Being able to hear from so many creators about how it inspired them and what each of them uniquely took away from the series was an incredible experience.
My plan for life is to get a reputation as a game dev, then join Retro Studios and pitch a remake of the original MOTHER. The game has so much potential, but hasn't aged well in some aspects. After the MOTHER remake we would remake Earthbound and Mother 3, but leave those 2 relativley untouched. It may be wishful thinking, but it is my dream job
I’m a little greedy. I wouldn’t just want them to localize Mother 3. I would want them to fix the god awful sound issues that held back all GBA games. I know the music in that game is amazing… but the sound processor is SO bad I tend to turn down the volume with all GBA games, including Mother 3. I don’t know how they could fix that other than remake it but, yeah, that’s what I’d like.
@@Player-jh4ko I’m sure people want it but it would require more than emulation. They would have to rebuild it completely. The sound limitations are built into the game and hardware itself.
What a lovely watch! It was incredible seeing Steven and Mal, Chuggaconroy, Scott the Woz, the Nintendo Life crew, and TOBY FREAKING FOX, all in one place

The cinematography was brilliant too, contextualizing Shesez’ friend’s dirty bedroom from the '90s with an empty bowl of Fruity Pebbles and a lonely Pokémon card was perfect. All of the small presentation touches make this something really special, much like the games themselves.
Thank you so much Thane!! It’s the little attention to detail that these games and the community deserve and I’m so glad they brought you joy!
"I know it's hard, but no crying until the end"
Cue my tears streaming down my face as soon as it started. Thank you Zion for putting this entire thing together and for everyone who participated and gave their input. This was such a treat to watch.
I think most of Us had tears as well Billy.
I felt an insanely MASSIVE chill run through my entire body as those words were said. Truly the mantra of Mother
Honestly, if mother 3 was localized, I would’ve never figured out how to emulate video games. So I guess thanks for not localizing it 🤷♂️
Everyone: Who is this weird Pokémon character??
Stephen Georg: *crying* MOM NESS IS IN SMASH BROS
This video is so beautifully made, the Mother series is such a deep, upbeat and emotional roller coaster where you live every second of it and that makes this series one of Nintendo’s shining diamonds that I wish even more people would see it for what this amazing creation is all about. Thank you Nintendo Life and all those who signed up to talk about the Mother series in this light and for making this video in the first place. Have a great day 👍
The reason it's so upsetting Mother 3 is not officially localized: we want to share the experience brought about by this game and the series as a whole!
What a funny mother's day joke. Your mother raised you well in that regard
Also weird they keep putting it in Smash Bros (which, thank god they do that, at least) consistently but refuse to release the source material.
@@expendableindigo9639 Good
@@knuclear200x That isn't good...
Loved it Zion. Thank you for having me part of this!
_"I was talking to Lou Reed the other day and he said that the first Velvet Underground record sold 30,000 copies in the first five years. The sales have picked up in the past few years, but I mean, that record was such an important record for so many people. _*_I think everyone who bought one of those 30,000 copies started a band!"_* -Brian Eno, _Musician_ Magazine, October 1982
This is a rather famous quip about the influence of The Velvet Underground, one of my all-time favourite bands; a niche, underground rock group from the late 1960s that wound up inspiring, essentially, the _entire genres_ of punk rock in the late-70s, and later the alt-rock & grunge movements of the late-80s and early-90s.
I was 8 and life was simple 🧡
This video hit me with so much nostalgia. Thank you so much Nintendo Life!
the interpolation of pixel art perler beads against still life backdrops *really* makes me want an Earthbound remake with an art style like that 😍
perfection.
THE EDITING HERE WAS SO PROFESIONAL- Felt straight out of a TV Documental! I've never played Earthbound, but this video made me want to try it out, specially now that it is in NSO 👀
Great to see Chugga, Stephen, and Mal together in the end credits
If they had left Stephen and Mal out I would have been really upset.
It was obscured by poor advertising, a high release price and low stock. I don't even think it was hyped in magazines before Smash existed
@@knuclear200x the advertising wasn't poor. It was the 90s. Of course they went with a gross out humor campaign.
@@josephboehmer1245
The advertising campaign in NA alone was worth $2m and they barely recouped those costs _globally._ It was a historical failure.
This game stinks is a terrible way to lead an ad.
@@thecunninlynguist It WAS an attention grabber though. How many ads have come and went that we can’t remember but Earthbounds “bad” approach is still remembered by many?
i finally played and finished earthbound on switch. it truly lived up to the hype
"You're watching a video about it, so why not play it?"
Okay, you got me
I hate the fact that whenever Mother 3 comes up in conversation the game itself is overshadowes by the fact that it isn’t released yet. It’s such a beautiful real game that deserves so much more, and that so many people deserve to experience
i love how scott can sound so monotone yet is the most passionate guy in the room
Okay, what the hell is Scott the Woz doing on this video. We all know his thoughts on RPGs… so don’t start fronting like you care about Earthbound Scott. I’m onto you.
Lol 👍🏻
Uh… those weren’t sunflowers
This was great tho
Edit: please no, keep Toby Fox away from Mother. Undertale has a completely different vibe. Mother is done, and its perfect as it is
Edit2: I also think any “remake” or “remaster” should keep to sprites, just higher definition and better lighting etc
I didn't play this til I was in my 30's. On the SNES Classic. It's a really great game.
I was gonna scream at the tip of my god forsaken lungs if Chuggaaconroy wasn't apart of this. He is LITERALLY the full package MOTHER fan
I don’t think NOA has anything to do with Mother 3 being held back. That feels like all Nintendo of Japan to me.
Oh well. We all got to play it anyway

We can share the trilogy, don't sit waiting for official releases they don't want to make, fans do what corps don't
If it did it would be very controversial I think
That doesn't work most of the time...
This was amazing. So many amazing guests and Jon!!!! I always hoped we’d see him on NL in some form again one day.
Shows that there's no bad feelings there. Really glad about that! 🤎
Well done Zion. Probably your best video yet. I'm not even an Earthbound fan, but I'm more convinced I need to give this series a try.
What a fantastic video! Alright, I guess I'll finally play Earthbound :)
Its perfect that this came out on Mother’s day. Incredible video :)
I've not completed EarthBound yet. I've just got to Moonside. Should I watch this or not?
Personally I’d say you’re fine! Spoilers are kept super minimum!

Do you mean a remaster or remake? You can technically play it on the switch with the Snes.
Yup. Before switch version coming, you can play earthbound in SNES on switch and also NES on switch.
Is feels really wird that in my country mothers day is the 10th of may but still MOTHER content is always apreaciated, i cant wait to finish mother 3

This was amazing crazy how I missed this vid and it been out for over a year I'm a huge earthbound & Mother 3 fan myself

Take a melody
Simple as can be
Give it some words and
Sweet harmony
Raise your voices
All day long now
Love grows strong now
Sing a melody of
Love, oh love
When you are happy, with laughter to spare
Fun is twice as fun with someone to share
When you are lonely and full of despair
Things aren't half as bad when somebody cares
Maybe now you have figured it out
That's what being a friend is about
When you're looking for a shoulder you can cry on
Won't you think about me?
When you're looking for someone you can rely on
Don't you ever doubt me
I'll be there someway, somehow
That's what being friends is about
When you are restless and want room to breathe
I will give you all the space that you need
And when you're ready for my company
I will come around, just call on me
Maybe now you have figured it out
That's what being a friend is about
When you need someone who feels the way you do
Won't you think about me?
Someone who can pick you up when you are blue
Don't you ever doubt me
I'll be there someway, somehow
That's what being friends is about
I'm your friend 'till the end
Count on me
In the sunshine and the rain
Paradise and back again
Count on me
Let me be a friend in need
Let me be a friend indeed
Count on me
And if you ask me, you know that it's true
There is not a thing that I wouldn't do
I'd follow you to the ends of the earth
That's how much I think our friendship is worth
Maybe now you have figured it out
That's what being a friend is about
When there's something that you just don't understand
Won't you think about me?
I'll be more than glad to lend a helping hand
Don't you ever doubt me
I'll be there someway, somehow
That's what being friends is about
I'll be there someway, somehow
That's what being friends is about
I will swear to keep them
(Let me know your problems)
I will help you solve them
(When your heart is aching)
I will stop it breaking
(When you are in danger)
I am your guardian angel
(I will stand beside you)
Be the one to guide you
(When your dreams are crumbling)
Call me, I'll come running
(That's what friends are all about)
Despite the sentiment of “no crying until the end”, this video had me bawling from start to finish.
This and many other videos like this always does at least one of these 3 things that makes the video predictable and stale:
*1.) Praises MOTHER 2 way too much, when at least 75% of the things people praise about MOTHER 2 were taken and reused from MOTHER 1*
*2.) Talks About how MOTHER 3 isn't localized for the like 100th time*
*3.) Talks about how MOTHER 1 hasn't aged quite the best recently, but never really explains what makes MOTHER 1 so different and so ahead of it's time compared to other NES games and other NES JRPGs of it's era*
All of these things have been done and said for decades now and I'm really getting a bit old and tired of it.
A wonderful tribute. Amazingly done, Zion! (also, always glad to see Jon!)
35:00 Big difference is Star Wars was much more of a collaborative effort than it gets credit for. Lucas was the creator, for sure, but Star Wars has always been more than him.
Feels different watching this now
This turned out very good and glad so many contributed for this. Shout out to Stephenplays and Chuggaaconroy for getting into Earthbound. I've never had it as a kid and now it one my favorite RPGs. I've played thru Mother and then Mother 3 later on.

Toby, pls
Show out to all of us that discovered Earthbound through Emile's original LP
Finally watched it, this was great, i will play Earthbound eventually, but not through Switch Online as i dislike paying for services. One thing that stuck out to me was that someone played it and bought the house, then the rest talked about how alive the game felt, and that's the way i play Xenoblade Chronicles X, i feel like just messing around, living there until i buy my Skel. That's a modern game yet oddly enough Earthbound feels more alive since you can even buy food, so i'll give this game a go with this new mindset, thanks for this great video!
I finished EarthBound for the first time yesterday. Perfect timing.
what did you think? Absolutely fell in love with the game after first renting it at blockbuster. Bought it w/ bday money a few months later. But I stupidly sold it to a friend for 20 bucks in high school.
Earthbound is my favorite SNES game
Can you just send this to Nintendo? Something has to get through to them, haha!

Thank you for this video. I'm glad to know Earthbound is loved by many people:D From Japan xxx
Earthbound is amazing obviously but mother 3 is still my favorite.
That isn't being greedy. I bet everyone wants that to happen too...
@@Player-jh4ko I’m sure people want it but it would require more than emulation. They would have to rebuild it completely. The sound limitations are built into the game and hardware itself.
