I live by myself and I spend about $40.00 a week for grocreys. I maybe buy a hamburger a couple times a week. I am 83 years old and I worked till I was 76 years old. I fell and broke my femur bone and had to have a rod in my leg. I worked till I could not make it any more. I cried the day I retired. My ex husband passed away last year and my SS doubled. I cried when I found how much I could draw. I have your cookbook. I bought it a couple of years ago.
Here in California we have a grocery store called Cost Less where I get the best deals like $0.48 per pound for Fuji apples, $1.29 for 10 lbs. potatoes, $1.99 per lbs for chicken breast, $1.50 per pineapple, $1.00 pound of strawberries, $2.50 per pound for pork chops, $0.78 per pound for tomatoes. We are only 1 hour 30 minutes from San Francisco.
Mike same thing happened to me when I saved for a trip to Europe in college . All the others kids were rich and their parents paid for the trip. They spent most of the time drinking ( and they were under age) , I only tried beer in Germany once and enjoyed the museums and all the other fun things in Europe
I am in Washington state. I shop the ads, and yes Walmart’s regular price may beat Safeway’s (Albertsons) sale price. My trick is to load my digital cart at Safeway, and then build the same cart on the Walmart app. I then can compare prices before driving to the store. I really appreciate your channel. I have 2 of your cookbooks and the price book. They are wonderful resources. God bless😊
Make your own tv dinners. Lots of places have divided containers that freeze well. If you make a big recipe, make a few homemade tv dinners for busy times or nights when cooking isn’t on the radar. Saves money and you can control the ingredients.
Just a thought...for flower box put plants in pots(ones lower than top of box so pots are not visible) then you can turn them easy. Choose small flowers that will not obstruct the view. Best of both worlds.
Thank you so much for these wonderful videos! It’s my goal to get our groceries down to $400 a month from $500 a month. These ideas are a Godsend! God bless you! ❤
I look up all my store ads, then make a list from what's on sale. I make my loop through town & straight back out of town. I only go to town once a month.
Can you do some videos assembling food kits for travel? I saw a lady put canned food into bags for individual meals that they took on a trip every evening she pulled out a bag and made an easy meal.
I had a hard time finding marigolds this year as well here in Texas, took me a few weeks before I got lucky to stumble on some. My Walmart had a water line break in the garden area and they could not water. It was so sad to see all those plants dying like that. Thankfully Texas this last few weeks has been swimming. They were marking them, down before the rain started.
Since we don't use a lot of milk I put part of it in containers and freeze. Always have the dried on hand for cooking if needed so I don't have to run to the store.
I get the farthest out date on my milk, sometimes there is a 2 week difference in dates from whole to skim. For example, if 1% is dated 2-3 weeks out and the others are 7 days - I buy the 1%
Darn Tootin' Food... Tawra, you're hilarious!!! Thanks for the stress relief in addition to money saving tips! 😄 Can you hang shade loving flowers in those long bags w/ holes on the sides of the window, like floral shutters?
Our car insurance didn't go up until our kids got their license. When they had the permit there was no increase. Each kid increased the cost by $1,000 per year. For this reason, we delay them getting their license until closer to age 18.
We do the same thing, but it is still quite the increase. It doesn't just go up for them, but for everybody! Even when my kids pay their share, we're still paying more. It's a scam.
Tawra it was over 90 until midnight today here on the sun’s surface otherwise known as Florida,I do not have A/C,I’m not complaining ,I am saving a literal fortune,my friends neighbors and family all donating 300 to 400 dollars a month to the City for Electric Service through the city,my bill was 32 dollars this month,I bought a solar fridge/freezer and two extra battery packs with the money I would have wasted trying to be “comfortable” all summer ,sure I need 3 cool showers,I have $ in the bank
I live in Northern California and we're going through a heat wave here too. I bought a three pound 93-7 ground turkey. It was $16.99 but went to $8.50 with a 30% off sticker. I sauteed the basic dice onion, sliced celery, and diced bell pepper with the hamburger. The first night I made tacos with it. So we have the rest we could microwave something if it continues with the heat wave. Like microwave noodles with hamburger and frozen vegetables to make an Asian dish. Or a barbacue sandwich the next day. Trying to stay cool.
Microwave we like the countertop one at Menards-we have had for almost 3 years and still working-we thought after 6mn. it was dieing so we bought a 2nd one, but have not had to use it yet
I found baby carrots for .50 cents for a 5 pound bag each at Sam’s so I bought them all and canned them in pint jars because I live alone. So now I have carrots for lunch and dinner every day, which I don’t mind because I love carrots. And a local grocery store had can vegetables on sale for .36 cents and I stocked up on those as well. My protein for breakfast is an egg and a slice of homemade bread, lunch is vegetables and dinner is vegetables and 4 ounces of meat. My budget is $50 a month and that’s only because eggs are so high.
I know that this cost money and I do not know what the cost of them are. Have you heard of the "indoor' garden units? I know that some other UA-camrs have them. I know that "Mandy in the Making" has one.
Morning, just want to know I bought volume 1 recipe book years ago, is it still the same or updated recipes? would like to buy a recipe book again, but not sure if i should buy volume 1 again or volume 2
Hi Tawra, I'm having trouble with my flowers, I fertilize with miracle gro every 7 to 14 days like it says on the label but they aren't doing well. I heard you say you fertilize a bit every time you water, can you tell me how much you use please?
I just follow the directions on the package. It could be something else other than fertilizer. Bugs, not enough water, too much water. It's hard to say without seeing it. You could take pics to your garden center and ask them.
Thought it wasn't so bad here (sw pa) milk ..... name brand $5.19 a gallon... store brand 4.67 a gallon. With school being out for the summer (tomorrow) and 2 grandsons being here I might need a loan🤦🏼♀️
Tawara, I was in my Bible this morning, in John. When Jesus fed the 5000 (that's only the male count, they didn't mention the women, and children), He had the disciples collect the "scraps" and got 12 baskets full. "Scraps" = leftovers. If Jesus was concerned about leftovers and them not just being discarded.
maybe get some goats or sheep to graze on your lawns?...lol maybe a farmer will be happy to lend you some Spinach may be better for winter greenhouse...you can freeze spinach, but not lettuce
As a child my grandma made a wonderful potato bread. I got her recipe as a young bride and have been making it for 50 years. 5 pounds of flour makes 10-12 loaves of bread. Freeze most of them for later. The recipe is to long and complicated to share.
@@mariamendoza5859 it is long and complicated. Look up pioneer woman's recipe, it is excellent smaller batch. Directions are a typed page of small print of many steps from back in 1900.

I find that I agree with you most of the time. We are to speak truth and the world crowns on that. I have a suggestion: even if you get a greenhouse, save those windows. You live ina cold winter area. You will find that you can really stretch the growing season by double covering some plants. Making hoop covers or mini green houses over some cold-sensitive plants. You can also use straw bails around beds and put windows over them for light. I actually started my seedlings on our driveway that way.😉

Really good point Mike. The size of our dishes allow us to fill them up with more food than we need.
Add quick oats (dry) to ground beef for hamburgers, it stretches the meat and you can't taste it.

Great way to shop!
Walmart has 160z canned salmon for $3. A much cheaper and more convenient way to get salmon. It’s also already cooked.
Is it real Atlantic salmon or raised on a farm. The farm raised are fed things you don't want in your body.
@@deloresfishwick594 not farm raised. I don't eat farm raised. It's wild caught and put in a can.
It's 73 degrees right now in Arkansas and it's 10:30 at night
Friday... I just ordered the cookbook. I think it will make a big difference the next year. Likely maybe pay for itself the first month.
We had tornadoes this week in South Africa very strange for our country

You are so right about eating too much. My husband started counting his calories and watching what he eats and has lost 100 pounds
Great job!

The tens unit is good can be painful, but also can knock out knots and other aches and pains
Love your show, your humor, your husband, your mom and listening to your show brings me comfort.
At least with cooked meat it should not spoil if the electric went off. You could
Pull it out and eat it cold if need be.
Yes, a frame around the big window would really look great!!😊
I agree with putting legs on planters instead of placing on the house.
Put a garden bench with a decorative back .
I had numerous seed packets that did not germinate. I’ve never had this much problem before.

Walmart should have filled buckets to water their plants. I hate to hear all those being lost.

There’s a heat warning here in Sacramento until tomorrow, the high is 105 and the air quality is bad.
Here in SW Ohio it's in the high 90's and very humid.
I went grocery shopping today and spent almost $300CAD …but I did buy a few things that weren’t food (bronzer, deodorant) that I needed
You NEEDED bronzer😂
If it is for floweres put lower growing plants, things that grow and hang over
