I love it when I get a clue right not because it's something I happen to already know, but because it's something I can figure out. Being the word nerd that I am, this was one of those.
I appreciate the final Jeopardy’s when anyone can be a winner
Yay, high school Latin- I got this!😁
😆 " How did that happen 😳 " 👍
Ok, that's someone who doesn't take herself to seriously 😊
That’s a great question.
1:36 Yes, Jen - I'm just as surprised as you are. Congrats on making it to the semis!
Nox is the Roman Goddess of the night
Or more simply, Latin for night is nox, noctis. But this word angers me because meso- is Greek. Grrrrr.
Noctis Lucis Caelum is a Final Fantasy XV protagonist.
“How did that happen?” I love that!
That's someone who doesn't take herself to seriously smile 😊
That was a very impressive comeback from Jennifer Quail, loved seeing the competition in this quarterfinal matchup.
I guessed it because nox is the counter to lumos. 😂
This also helped me, in particular when Harry is confronted by Snape as he traverses the corridors at night with the Marauders Map
once I translated the prefix and suffix, I was thinking 'asleep' as well, due to the use of "pertaining to" in the clue - but then I remember it's best not to overthink things in Final Jeopardy
Yes, nicely done! 🙂
Sometimes that 5 years of Latin in DCPS pays off...
I feel stupid for not getting this one.
Don't exaggerate...
Me too - at first I thought "middle nights" and then for some reason I switched to "equinox"?
First half was yesterday repeat!
From the bottom to the top, nice!
I picked Jennifer to win this quarterfinal and I'm happy she did 🙂
1:36 How did that happen?
Fun fact: Brandon Blackwell is the first player to face two giant killers since Ben Chan in the Tournament of Champions. Ben Chan faced Jared Watson and Ike Barinholtz (Cris Pannullo's and Ray Lalonde's giant killers in the TOC, respectively) and Brandon faced Jennifer Quail, who defeated Jason Zuffranieri in the 2021 Tournament of Champions Semifinals, and Alex Jacob, who defeated Matt Jackson in the 2015 Tournament of Champions Finals in a lock tournament.
Brandon also turned in a very impressive performance on the BBC’s University Challenge. I believe he went to grad school in London. Alex’s cancer diagnosis was revealed during his taping and Brandon wore a sweater with his face on it in tribute.
Lets go Janeane Garofalo!!
I thought of noxious (like fumes) and answered fart. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
why didnt brandon bet 0
When these perspicacious contestants, whose minds are replete with all manner of proficuous and inutilious lore, are presented with such non-consuetudinary and grandiloquent terms, it is with the expectation that they have the sagacity to break the word down: "meso" (as in Mesozoic, Mesolithic, Mesopotamia, Mesoamerica, etc.), and "noxian" (goddess Nox, nocturnal, noctambulist, etc.). My favorite players are those who can come up with the correct response on Final Jeopardy (and have enough money going into the final to make it matter).
Felicitous salutations, fellow aficionado of polysyllabic verbiage!

Been loving my routine of watching and then liking this comment before going
To prevent spoiling your diet, don't eat after midnight.
Doing gods work, brother

Doing the lord’s work.
He had to wager against the $14,200 player. This is one of those fairly rare occurrences where the top 2 wager against each other, lose, and the 3rd place player gets the win.
I can just watch what they show on the Jeopardy channel.
Semifinals? Is there another Tournament of Champions im the making, or what?
Are you afraid of spoilers? DONT READ THE COMMENTS! Lol
Kinda hard when the top rated comment shows up automatically on the screen while using mobile.
I got this Final Jeopardy! clue right.
this one felt really easy, but I'll take it hehe
Congratulations Jennifer quail on advancing to the semi finals
NFC
I don’t like how this clue is written. I think it should just end with “pertaining to this” because it pertains to the idea, not the word itself. This is especially confusing (to me anyway) because the category is “old words”.
I don't think there's really a big difference
@@joeym5243 maybe it’s just me. I didn’t know the answer, and probably wouldn’t have guessed it even if the clue had been the way I was suggesting.
I am sad that Alex is gone bring him bakc to anothet tournament
Me too. Alex Jacob is very strong when it comes to getting Daily Doubles correct, but apparently luck when it came to finding them became his Achilles heel today.
Spoiler blocker
Not to shit on the other competitors since I'm a big fan of Brandon's UC dominance, but what could mesonoxian have possibly meant other than midnight? I feel like these guys are way too smart and knowledgeable to not have gotten that
Too easy
Midnight that correct, Jennifer is a semifinals congratulations 🎉
