just adore this lady ...perfect style, perfection vocally and dramatically involved from top to toe.........it was a joy sharing a stage with you dearest Lenneke. huge admiration and jumbo love.

Fiordilligi’s exquisite 2nd Act (scene xiii) Recitativo Accompagnato e Rondo-Aria ‘Per pieta…ah ! Chi mai manco di fede!’ written for its librettist’s Lorenzo da Ponte) mistress the hyper-arrogant Adriana Ferrerese del Bene speaks from the divided heart of the character of one of the ‘Ferrara’ sisters (engag’d to the baritone soldier Guglielmo but now in a deep flirtation with the tenor Ferrando acting as an exotic & wealthy Albanian prince Sempronio) begging Guglielmo to forgive her for even thinking about straying from her vows - one of the most heartfelt pieces of ‘a loving heart torn in two’ that M. ever wrote (Dec 1789) - the many octave & double octave leaps in this section (as with ‘Come Scoglio’) was added as something of a joke by M. since Ferrarese had a personal habit of tucking in her chin to her chest during low notes & stretching out her neck high & thrown back during the higher ones -M. told some of the cast that he wanted ‘Ferarese’s arrogant head to bob back & forth rapidly just like a chicken- which should bring down her immense ego a little closer to the ground !’
Writing for such a ‘prima Donna Diva’ could not have been much fun for M. - but judging from the sublime music he wrote for her what a voice she must have had !! The J.C. Bach Turino-stile concertante orchestral accompaniment both in the extended opening accompagnato & the Rondo proper all the way thro’ to the 2- poignant dotted flutes of the finale adds elan & wit to some otherwise flat Italian text - M. always found a way to pull these things off & Lennie does a bang-up job getting all the dramatics inherent in ev’ry note just right (of course having the great & musically intelligent Orchestra of the 18th Century accompanying her on original instruments (& better-than-exact replicas) doesn’t hurt any

Can anyone confirm if the conductor Ed Spanjaard is Mr. Bruggen's replacement? He died recently. Ms. Ruiten is ona of my favorite sopranos. She possesses a privileged talent and excellent vocal chords to sing Mozart.
