I cooked at the Asheville Music Hall for years. I met Marcus King a bunch, and also cooked for him a few times as well. He's the sweetest guy you will ever meet, and a fantastic guitar player and a great guy. But yeah. I remember seeing Marcus King playing in a 150 person room back in the day. Good times

The Octopus: Secret Government and the Death of Danny Casolaro is an awesome book. One of the authors needed knee surgery, didn't want it and said "if they put me under, I won't wake up". He died during the operation. Danny was not the most reliable guy, but when two people connected to the story of spyware die and say ahead of time "they're trying to kill me", its more than a little fishy. The book itself interviews the husband and wife who created the software, and that part is excellent. The rest is just kind of factual accounts of powerful people and connections, and then speculation of why it's shady, but can be kind of a dull read in and of itself, but the story is fascinating. Especially since so much is provable, open information. It may be "a conspiracy theory", but, a lot of it is just like "well yeah, that's what powerful people do". Like Danny may not have been right about everything he was saying, but, kind of hard to doubt his overall point.
This right here is why too much internet will rot your brain. Danny died in a hotel room from apparent self cause, whether you believe he did it himself or not he certainly didn't die on the operating table.
