  • Little bit of fun with my second PSR-6300 and connected Ketron SD40 module expander providing extra rhythms and voices. It is worth a notice about mixing original FM Yamaha voices with modern, clean samples and music styles.

Wow... PSR 6300! Had it many years ago too! It was a breakthru modern Keyboard back then. But its initial Touch keys character annoyed me littl bit. And there was no after touch. Thanks for sharing this keyboard. Your Midi expander has way better sound than the PSR itself. 👍

Hi there, happy new year. The older PS-6100 had aftertouch, they added initial touch on the 6300 and removed aftertouch then, weird decision. The first PSR with both initial and after touch was the 7000 in 1995. I love both 6100 and 6300 because unique design and beautiful FM sound; they may be considered as mini Electone, since some layering capabilities not common of keyboards of that time. The internal organ sounds of 6300 is really great, for my taste better than HS-8 organ presets. That expander is a Ketron SD40 , way better sounds because its a new instrument 😅 Together thay are a cool combination, perfection of samples plus FM authority!

the built in speakers on the psr 6300 is actually pretty good for it's time and probably decent for these days

For home alone enjoyment its ok but when connected to a proper stereo system or dedicated speakers (or headphones) you appreciate the real sound of this thing. There is huge difference.

@@musk771 it's still good for people with no external speakers, and is this keyboard pcm sampled based or still fully fm?

@@narenchris711 Each voice section is FM (4 op.) while the drums is PCM (or AWM) sampled.

In 1986, I stood before one of these in my local music store and I wondered who buys that kind of garbage. Terrible buttons. Terrible sounds. The Electone organs were so much better. And I felt very comfortable with my cheap PSS560. I'm glad this keyboard found someone who loves it, that wasn't an easy accomplishment. You made it sound like an instrument, congratulations!

Probably you had a wrong listening or too quick test of this instrument, back in 1986 it was brillant, same sounds as many Yamaha products in synth-Electone range.Only synths like DX-11 or DSR-2000 or also most of Electones, had the 4 op. FM like this one. Cheaper PSR or PSS had only 2 op. FM. A huge difference in sound quality. Playing one line melody and accompaniments doesn't give justice to the PSR-6300, it needs to be played more professionally, layering voices (it had some interesting voice layering capabilities, not common to home keyboards, but just territory of home organs.) , recording with the integrated 5 track sequencer. I can tell, all voices are very expressive (with the FM in mind) and professional for that time. It was one of few home keyboards with dynamic keys, pitch and modulation wheels, programmable accompaniments. One feature making Electones sounding apparently better is the reverb: yes , unfortunately at that time no PSR had integrated reverb and it makes the difference. I have a 1987 Electone HS-8 and I can tell, some FM sounds are exactly the same, but the preset organ voices are much better on the 6300! To have decent organ sounds on the HS-8 (that is an organ) you had to purchase separately the CVS-10 drawbar expander. I remember I was 16 in 1987 when I saw it first time in a shop and I desired one for many years, till when I was able to afford (new price about $ 2000 for that time). It had few competitors (Technics K450-K700-Hohner PK250-JVC KB800-Kawai MK20) and no one sounded better, just choice of personal taste. Today for collectors only (as I am). Most people who have or had it, just love the way it is designed and the particular sounds.

It's crazy how perceptions can differ. One might add I usually lurked around in the synthesizer section with their Korg Polysixes and JX Jupiters. At one time, they even had a DX5 on display. The 6300 paled in comparison In the school rooms, there were Electone HS-8 if I'm not mistaken. I still think they are great. But who has the space for such a beauty? @@musk771
