This reply has been hard for me, as I don't really know your preferences well other than you seem to like your sci fi.
Also because I give fewer requests than I used to, as I've found that many of the best and most important films don't do well in polls today and so rarely if ever get reacted to.
Nonetheless, you're just getting started and it's hard to avoid giving you something.
I decided to make a list of 12 ones that IMO are most underrated / never watched by reactors. In no particular order. An asterisk means I've only seen one reaction, no asterisk means haven't seen any.
For about half of them I've also repeatedly recommended them without any apparent effort made to see them. Which tells me that they avoid them because of a preconception that what matters is only polls or only what they think they or the viewers will like. But I sometimes told them, even if you don't react to it, see it anyway.
The Forgotten (2004 w/ Julianne Moore)
Charlie Wilson's War (2007) (True story)
      Anatomy of a Murder (1959) *
Dark Victory (1939) (Fictionalized based on experiences of George Gershwin)
      The Muse (1999)
      Walk, Don't Run (1966)
Reds (1981) (just missed Oscar for best picture, losing to Chariots of Fire, also true story)
      The Commuter (2018)*
      Valkyrie (2008) * (true story)
Changeling (2008) (Directed by Clint Eastwood, set in his hometown around when he was growing up, also true story which missed winning Cannes only because some of the French voters couldn't believe it could be true.)
Fun with Dick and Jane (1977) *
The Paper (1994) (Directed by Ron Howard)
Hope you'll find at least one of these interesting enough to react to. ✌🏼 P.s. was not easy for me to keep the list to 12 but I felt it was important to just have the very best of them.

Kahla, in the video game Jedi: Fallen Order you actually visit Darth Maul’s home-world, Dathomir. You learn about Maul’s culture and a little backstory from that visit. As you might expect, Dathomir is dangerous and creepy. I highly recommend this game, and they just released a sequel too.

To add one thing about Jedi: Fallen Order, you also visit Chewbacca’s home planet of Kashyyyk and help the Wookiees while learning more about their culture. It’s very cool.

The whole movie is quotable and they never get old, and it’s one of the many reasons why I love the Phantom Menace.
Also, I think it’s such a relief that the Prequel trilogy is getting more love and respect after 20 years of hate so I’m always at ease to admit my admiration for all 6 films.

The prophecy was accurate and true, but the jedi had an overly optimistic interpretation of it.
Anakin did bring balance to the force. When he was a child, there were 10,000 jedi and 2 sith, and when vader was finished, there was one jedi master with one apprentice and one sith lord with one apprentice. Balance, like the prophecy said.

That and Anakin was able to live in both the dark and light side of the force, balancing out what it truly means to be a Jedi and a Sith.

Ian McDiarmid was the perfect casting for Emperor Palpatine; as a young thespian in old-makeup he absolutely owned the character in Return of the Jedi; and then by the time the Prequels got made he was the perfect age to play Palpatine's middle years, and without the makeup and voice affect, a lotta people had no clue it was the same actor.
Absolutely seamless, the way it worked out.

Many of us were disappointed that the two coolest characters, Qui-Gon and Darth Maul would not be seen again. John Williams "Duel of the Fates" is both haunting and stirring. I believe it's the first time he used voices in a Star Wars score. Up until then it was instrumental.

    • @TheCapedWanderer

Choral voices are used in Return of the Jedi when Luke loses control during his fight with Vader. More tragic mood-wise than Duel of Fates, reminiscent of Battle of the Heroes many years later.

    "There's always a bigger fish."
Fun Fact: Film debut of Ahmed Best.
Actor Preparation Fact: Ewan McGregor studied many of Sir Alec Guinness's films, including Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), to ensure accuracy in everything, from his accent to the pacing of his words.
Cameos Cameos Fact: Producer Rick McCallum appears on the right, in a floppy wide-brim hat, when Queen Amidala (Natalie Portman) meets Senator Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). Sound designer Ben Burtt appears to the left of Rick McCallum (with goatee). Visual effects supervisor John Knoll plays the Naboo pilot who gets killed during the space battle.
Sound Effects Fact: The sound of the underwater monsters growling near the beginning of the film was made by the main sound technician Ben Burtt's three-year-old daughter. The sound of her crying was recorded and the frequency lowered to obtain the sound heard in the film. To create the sounds of the spectators during the pod race scene, sound designer Ben Burtt took a recorder to a San Francisco 49ers game, and recorded the crowd's reactions.
Double Duty Fact: At the time of the film's release, the producers ran a disinformation campaign to suggest that Natalie Portman played both Padmé and The Queen at all times. In fact, they are not always the same person. For many sections of the film, notably those where The Queen is wearing the black outfit with the huge feather headdress, she is actually a decoy, played by Keira Knightley. The real queen, Portman, is actually disguised as a handmaiden. Various conflicting public statements make it extremely difficult to figure out who is who. Whole websites are devoted to figuring out which actress is playing which. However I have seen some people that can tell which is which.
The Rest Of The Story Fact: Liam Neeson was so eager to be in the film that he signed on without having read the script. Keira Knightley's parents tried to convince her not to audition, but the twelve-year-old actress still sought a role, given she was a Star Wars fan. Jake Lloyd has said that he retired from acting because of the trauma he experienced after playing Anakin Skywalker. According to Lloyd, other children constantly teased him about the role, for example, making lightsaber sounds whenever he walked by. Lloyd also said that the situation was made worse because, in his opinion, the film did not meet the fans' expectations. Despite this, Lloyd has reprised the role of Anakin in several video games and has appeared at Star Wars conventions and events.

The end of the fight between Qui Gon, Obi Wan and Darth Maul shows the difference between Sith and Jedi very well. When the laser partitions separated Qui Gon and Maul from each other, the Jedi began to meditate, calming down, and the Sith, on the contrary, walked in a rage like a tiger in a cage, filling himself with emotions. And when Obi Wan attacked Maul after the death of his master, you can see that he was filled with rage, which took him out of balance, since this is not the way of the Jedi and he does not know how to handle it, and Darth Maul, being a Sith who has been raised inside the order since childhood, who on the contrary feeds himself with emotions, easily he was defeated and thrown into the mine, and only when Obi Wan was able to calm down and return to balance, he was able to defeat Maul

About 1000 years before this movie, the Jedi wiped out all the Sith. There was also a lot of infighting amongst the dark siders. So the only survivor started the Rule of Two, which was more centered on infiltration and corruption, which made it possible to remain in the shadows for a millenium. Before that, there was basically an all out war between the Sith and the Jedi, on and off across galactic history. You can trace this conflict all the way back to the First Great Schism, which happened more than 24000 years before the movies. The Sith Order is a mix of dark Jedi and the Sith species and this clash of cultures happened almost 7000 years before the movies. 13:40

35:55 Funnily enough, most droids were better than people. The bad guys (Trade Federation) used control ships for their armies to bring down the cost of each one and use more horde tactics and overwhelm enemies. However after the Battle of Naboo, they were forced to make changes and give droids more autonomy (like R2D2/C3PO) so that they removed the weakness of a control ship.

lol thank you for keeping it real about Jar Jar, he is just the worst
Darth Maul was born on a primitive planet where evil female witches (they use the Force but think of it as magic) rule over male warriors. Maul's mother, the leader of the Force witches, gave Maul to Darth Sidious when he was a child, so he was basically raised to be evil since birth. This is from the Clone Wars TV series.
Anakin's conception is part of the novel Darth Plagueis by James Luceno. It's not canon but it is pretty interesting imho.

I would argue that Qui-Gon's death, is the most consequencial moment in Star Wars. And it's not the last time we see him. The prequel era has the most content and lore. You can't fully appreciate, the live action tv shows, without watching The Clone Wars animated series, Tales of the Jedi and later Rebels.

    1. Of the prequels I like this one the best mostly for the POD race and the underwater sequences,
    2. Jar Jar is mostly comic relief since we don't have C3PO
    3. Liam Neeson was very busy with various productions at the time and was in huge demand and agreed to do this episode because Qui-Gon Jinn dies, and he won't be held to do more.
    4. Emasculate conception?
    5. It's easy to know why this one didn't start the series because of the lack of CGI back in 1977.

    • @TheCapedWanderer
      @TheCapedWanderer 3 місяці тому

      1. The underwater sequences are fire.
      2. Exactly, C-3PO serves as that same element of overreactive naïveté which Jar-Jar offers. _“When is yousa thinkin wesa in trouble?!”_
      5. George says it was the first time when he sat down to write the outline in 1994, that he did not impose constraints on his imagination as far as what could be filmed, as he always had in the past. Which is how we got Gunga City, the Battle of Naboo with those shield beasts and thousands of combatants, the hall of lasers where the Jedi duel, Theed with its Byzantine cliffside architecture, fricking Coruscant! He actually showed us the capital of the Galactic Republic, can you imagine that happening in the OT? The production would be stretched so thin, but here we have senators, queens, and trade lobbyists floating around a political Colosseum. The Phantom Menace was a project of serious dream realization, a massive undertaking, and the results are incredible.

This prequel trilogy of Star Wars was very thrilling starting with this Ep1 movie! Yes that was young Obi-Wan along with his old master Qui-Gon Jinn and a lot of things would've turned out different and better had he lived in the end. Like Anakin for one thing, if he hadn't died during that battle against Maul HE would've become his rightful master! Also the Jedi order back then really should've been following Qui-Gon's example of just following the will of the force but being linked with the republic and its politics has really corrupted them over the years.

As far as his backstory goes, you'll have to research other sources because the films don't expand much on his origins. but I don't want to spoil anything for you so just keep watching the films to learn more. Also, if you haven't already seen it someone made a fan film about Darth Maul several years ago ua-cam.com/video/Djo_91jN3Pk/v-deo.html no spoiler here it's just a fan film that is not cannon to any Star Wars movie. Obi-Wan: "The Force is an energy field created by all living things..." Yoda: "Life creates it, makes it grow." Life means biological life. That means there are specific biological mechanisms that interact with the force, the way ears interact with sound waves, and cones and rods interact with light waves. It would make sense if the Jedi had technical terms for all kinds of specific elements about the universe. Midi-chlorians are just one of many examples of this. For a truly knowledgeable order, science and spirituality would be one integrated whole - not opposites or exclusive to one another.

The Empire's mistake was employing Trade Federation engineers to design the Death Star. (Edit: Before someone tells me who really designed the Death Star, this was a joke.)

34:44 They are your typical corporate businessmen. That's what the trade federation is. One of the wealthiest corporate organizations in the galaxy, the Trade Federation controlled most of the interstellar shipping passing through the Rim territories. The Trade Federation was headed by Viceroy Nute Gunray, and even had its own representative in the Republic Senate to lobby for even greater power. On the orders of Darth Sidious, the Trade Federation sent its battle droids to invade Naboo to create a government crisis.
Just to understand military leadership especially in regards to a General's role, I'm saying this in a calmly manner to all, pls. don't take this too seriously. I'm just sharing what I know and don't mean to be rude in any way.
Any given battle you are at, as a General, means you’re not at others. The General’s responsibility is to command and control and understand. And you do that WHERE you can command and control and understand. And that isn’t in a foxhole where you’re ducking every 3 seconds. It’s in a tent with a generator, and a big map, and a lots of radios. It’s behind the lines, where you can get access to everything you need, and connect to everyone, and not get your fool ass killed by a stray mortar round, or make a bad choice because you’re off your tits on adrenaline, and having to deal with highly abstract and long term issues.
You have frontline officers to act as your eyes and nerves, but the brain doesn’t reside in the arms, it resides in the head, where everything comes together.
Time was, technology was so primitive that you had to see things with your own two eyes. When sending a command meant poking the musician beside you to play the right notes, or sending a guy on a horse with a note. But now we have radios, and telegraph lines, and artillery firing on targets they can’t even see, and you can’t perceive everything that’s going on from one tiny little section of the front.
When armies stood toe to toe with spears and bows and arrows, and the battle was small enough that you could see the whole thing from the battlefield, this made sense. A general in the middle of a battle was good for morale because it meant that the general didn’t expect to lose. They could rally the troops and see first hand what was going on and give orders in real time.
A general that didn’t stand with his troops was afraid of losing. This was bad for morale.
Today, a general on the front lines is simply out of touch with his/her command post and must worry about staying alive rather than doing his/her job. You can’t see anything important on the front lines because the troops are spread out. A general has to rely solely on intel.
A general wounded or killed is a major distraction for his/her command and this is potentially catastrophic. Far more people can die because the command has been disrupted. A general behind the lines and out of immediate danger is an effective general.

Darth Maul & evil being a choice? I suppose it always is, but I don't know his backstory. As Yoda said in Ep 5, the Darkside is quicker, easier, more seductive. Ep1 is definitely early background. 1st trilogy picks up as it goes. Looking fwd to you continuing & then onto Rogue One (to really tie things together). Hang in there! :)

Don't listen to the haters. There's a group of SW "fans" who are stuck in 70's and early 80's. They tend to be really vocal and seem to hate anything that isn't the original films. They're usually old farts who have become so crippled by cynicism that they can't function anymore. Enjoy what you enjoy and don't let their crabbiness sway you.
