  • Halfway point! Wanted to do something special to mark the occasion, plus getting married.
This was hands down the hardest piece I have ever learned in my lifetime. I sang this piece in choir, in college, and was mostly concentrating on the piano part. I learned a little bit while in college, and couldn’t manage to sit and learn the rest for long enough for 10+ years. The pandemic gave me the time to learn the rest in little chunks & finally put it all together.
So, I worked it back up to “performance-ish” level for the 40/40 for 2024 challenge! And my forearms are paying the price 😂
The title translates to “I hear the millwheel,” and the lyrics have repeating rhythmic sections of “tiq a taq a” to mimic a millwheel sound. You hear the opening motif repeat several times throughout the piece.
I gave up on ever having a “perfect” recording of this long ago. This is one of two pieces I have ever played that makes me physically sweat, and the only piece I’ve played that has chords demanding 11 notes from 10 fingers 🤣 So here it is, hope you enjoy, back to more manageable pieces for the time being!!!
