  • This is the first of a series of practical keyboard tutorials for those interested in a career as a gigging/studio musician. In the series on reading chord charts, we'll talk about playing in a number of fun and popular styles, the differences between them, and what's appropriate to play in various situations that might come up.
In this first video, I talk about my thoughts on this importance of voice leading, even in the most basic chord progressions. We also go over a few different rhythmic figures to play over a basic 4/4 groove, and talk a little about the role of the keyboard in a band, and staying out of the way of the vocals.
For a good tutorial on how to play basic major chords, check out this link: • #1. Basic Major Chords...
And thanks to Drew Denlinger for his portrayal of Steve Snappypants!

Thanks Mr. M.H you know your shiz and i like your ending motivation statement Sir!!! I still cant read the music chart Sir. I took piano lessons and they bored me to death. I took voice lessons tho and loved it all the way!!! Oh, I didnt get to finish piano lessons too dang expensive! Soooo I thought playing by ear would help, but...if I don't understand the chords I am at a loss too. However you tell me play EXA chords: C - G- D- A I'll play them Like I try to do w my Montunos which I am onlyBeginner to intermediate. I hope you add more Montuno Salsa Videos w more explanations and SLOWER!!! You Got Skillz Sir... Do you have a Salsa Montuno SLOWLY-Explained into oh say 11minutes or better that I can buy off of you. I really want to Learn Sir!!!
