One day there will be cool things like merch and stuff. Or maybe this description is old and it's there now!
Glad to see Very Good Garage back after a hiatus!
Me too! More to come for sure, and faster than a year this time
Someone I know got quoted $5,000 to get all of their rotors and brake pads replaced! Even DIY these were still $1k for just the fronts, but still cheaper doing it yourself
I Was quoted 5,500 at the dealership thank you for this video !
I was quoted around $4000 at a dealership. The price for the calipers is average kinda high but doable about $1300 a piece but $600 for pads didn’t seem okay with me. I had to do new pads at 25k miles and it only cost me 69 bucks at brake check so idk ??!!
Sounds about right. I have the Widebody and the last told me $2000 just for the front.
I laughed out loud and hung up the phone 😂
Lube goes on the back silver part of the brake pad that meets the caliber so it doesn’t bind
He totally missed that didn’t he.
Air hammer with a flat face to the rotor hub. Vibrations for the win there.
An air hammer is for sure on my list of tools to get
I have 4 pistons calipers on a 2021 scat pack charger. What’s needed to upgrade to 6 pistons. Do you have a video on that because I’ve heard different information on what’s needed.
Question when putting new rotors on shouldn't you clean them first that way it doesn't get onto the new pads.
Yes. Good point. The new rotors arrive with a rust-proof coating which should be removed prior to installing the pads. Use a brake cleaner solvent for this step.
Love the video!!! Straight to the point. When you input the brake pads you don't lube the surface before inserting them in? Just wondering, I'm about to change mine out.
New to the Charger world ( bought my girl a ‘21 GT. why did you remove the brakes before the caliper? Is it required to do in that order for chargers?
Very informative 👏 👌
Nice video by the way 👍
What size was the two big bolts in the back side of the caliper
after using these brake pads for a while how would you say they preformed, compared to OEM, and about how much "life" do you still have on the pad until the sensor hits? A ruff guesstimate is fine. :) thanks in advanced.
They are excellent! Biggest thing is the dust is night and day, so much less. Also quieter, but they outlasted the stock ones by 3x at least. We actually have another video on the channel about those brake pads specifically
@@VeryGoodGarage thank you so much it's really hard to find reviews of pads and rotors most of it is just installation guides which are great but a review is pretty hard to find, speaking of which I have stock rotors, what did you swap your's out with? is it just the outer portion of the rotor that someone can replace and is that more cost effective or do I need to replace both pieces of the 2 OEM rotors. Regardless, thank you so much for your info my first time owning a v8 scat and I'm still learning :).
When I put new pads on, I put that lube they come with, on the back side of the pad. Question though, do you not have to bleed the line when putting new pads/rotors on ?
only when you change calipers
No... however you do need to pump the brakes to engage the pistons. Should feel soft at first then very hard.
What lift is that? Are you happy with it? I'm looking for a solution that fits into a 2 car garage.
It's a maxjax! And yes it's fantastic, definitely recommend. Makes basic stuff like this or oil changes extremely easy. Just make sure you're concrete is thick enough and strong enough first, and watch a couple of installs before you start. The instructions are good as well, and include things like the concrete requirements. My garage is 9ft tall, and I can max out the lift with the Charger which goes up about 4 ft
@@VeryGoodGarage Awesome, thank you! This sounds like the perfect solution for maintenance on the WB SP!
Can you add 6 piston in the rear too or you have to run 4 piston rear ?
You wouldn't want that. The reason the front caliper is larger is because there's more weight in the front under braking. If the back brakes had the same power as the front, the back wheels would lock up before the front wheels.
Did you ever resurface the original factory rotors when doing a pad change only brake job? Thanks
Nope
My car is at 22k miles I could say I never drove the car aggressively do you think I could just get pads? It’s not making noises but I know the pads are getting low.
@@LBCchelsea1 My car had about 21,000 miles. The rotors were in good condition except for a lip on the outside edge. I put just the new powerstop z 26 pads on it and it worked out really well for me. The lip had no effect. Hope this helps.
@@johnk815 you think you could send a link?
Hey, great video! I'd like a link to the caliper opener on Amazon (happy to give referral clicks).
This is it! amzn.to/3w4HmQy And thank you! Although this tool is very "fine" lol, but it did the trick
What’s part number for rotors and where we can buy it

@@VeryGoodGaragedo these fit for a 2021 wide body scat pack
@@JamesSmith-ds9yc It depends, Scat Packs can come with 4 piston and 6 piston calipers, which both have different rotor sizes. You'd need to measure the diameter of your rotors to see what size is right.
@@VeryGoodGarage what rotor would you recommend for a scat pack 4 piston? If you can send me a link, I would appreciate it.
@@saidmouri2904 I believe this is what you are after for the fronts: www.summitracing.com/parts/pwr-ar-8773xpr
I want to powder coat my calipers but I don’t know how to take them all the way off
Where I get rotors and brakes at a decent price for my 21 scat pack wide body? The dealerships are diabolical.
Summit racing is where I got my things from, there's links in the description. I also don't go OEM, but I get Power Stop brand instead
On the website it shows that it won’t fit a charger. But you have one on yours 🤔
What trim do you have? And do you have the 15.3 in rotors?
He has the 6 piston brakes. You may need the 4 piston brakes.
