  • Arguably the finest of Danny's instrumental ballads. In this live version he varies his guitar riffs, thus distinguishing it from the studio version. Does it not evoke the Sunny Side of Heaven?

    The greatest guitar instrumental ever written and played. No wild antics, no showing off, no shredding.... just pure music, delicately played with skill and love. Please play this at my funeral, I want this to go with me.... to Heaven.

    A few years ago, my dear friend turned me onto the Bare Trees album. Not knowing anything of Fleetwood Mac beyond the Nicks/Buckingham lineup, this album was an eye opening revalation. The Welch/Kirwan/McVie/McVie/Fleetwood lineup is now a personal favorite; the most important bridge to the later Supergroup. Bare Trees and Future Games are must-haves for an FM fan.

      Middle era Mac was the best Mac. Danny honored Peter’s tremendous influence on guitar and the overall tone of his writing. Christine was allowed to step forward and her vocals are way more evocative of Peter’s original intent than Stevie’s. And Bob was the ego to Danny’s id, a pure power pop writer who created sparkling hooks, just enough guitar, and lyrics that meant something. Future Games, Bare Trees, Mystery To Me, and Heroes are all masterpieces and they all carried Peter’s and Danny’s spirit. Peak Mac.

      @@MWLUCKY thank you; finally someone who can recognize that welch, kirwan, mcvie, and partially spencer, in their all prime periods alone are nearly a supergroup if you think about it. bob welch held it down as the front man, becoming a dynamic songwriter and vocalist with a great prime in the later bridge years, danny kirwan lead success as a signature guitar player and one of my favorite elements to the band in the early to mid bridge years, CHRISTINE FUCKING MCVIE, yeah the same one that held it down w Buckingham/Nicks, at a nearly younger and still improving primal state of a songwriter and vocalist, along to show that the great peter green og backman jeremy spencer was still getting it done. All while under the same consistently great rhythm section of fleetwood/mcvie? the men who’ve done it all? manage to provide something to the track always, even if it’s not the focus?? man. green is an icon that is likely (if) the only other member people can name, or all their blues is remembered for, but when you hear future games through 1973, you really realize that the bridge years have a lot of music to offer that even the peak pop band couldnt.

    Hi Robert ,I am lucky an angel helped me find Danny's live versions of these great songs, thanks to your work . Long ago , I fell easily for Peter Green, for Jeff Beck and Pete Townsend,Eric Clapton and David Gilmour . For Danny I had to get up off my ass and find out what the heck was happening , and who did what . My first( American) Then Play On did not include all 7 Kirwan songs .,but I didn't know that then . Besides that I was so giddy about it and that it was an all new direction from Peter .from mostly non original blues songs to a beautiful new kind of blues - as great a happening as the emerging prog rockers and their synthesizers and mellotrons. As a comparison of Brit and American albums I remember Jimi Hendrix 's first American Are You Experienced release was only 10 songs ,unlike the 17 songs on the British version. It was Danny though that was the catalyst ,not Peter .Danny's creativity spurred Peter. Peter admitted decades later that those fabulous instrumentals Underway and Albatross were helped along by Danny . Besides Danny's blues songs were all originals . Without You is as great as any blues song . Decades later Danny's 8 or 9 more blues originals could be found on various compilations . If all of his blues songs were presented on one disk , the blues world might find Danny's brilliance equal to Ledbelly and Albert and BB King and Buddy Guy, Howlin' Wolf, Hubert Sumlin, and Willie Dixon.,etc etc.
    And then Danny focused on fresh and exciting and utterly gorgeous songs .
    Danny is also an unusually sentimental and loving soul . To cry while playing his heartfelt music ,to be so overwhelmed by the beauty of it all ,well , he may be the only one know of . .I know If I try to play a song by Danny to my 6 and 8 year old nephews ,I wil eventually tear up and cry every time ,and they know it ,and I know it, and we will have a lot of laughs about it. So, I get a an idea of how music was something so special to him it sometimes left him in tears and got embarrassing and called for a lot of beer and wine,or whiskey He is our hero with a ton of inner beauty and outer beauty.

      Was trying to put into words, what Danny's music sounded like. "Sunny Side" was written so beautifully it can be compared to the classical music written by the great composers. His music paints a scene in your mind...just as the great composers did with their music. If I can't fall asleep or I'm stressed out...forget about those mood altering CD's with rain, train sounds, etc. I play the older Fleetwood Mac music with Danny's infuence. So we’re talking about two different bands altogether. Three if you count the transition. So if you dislike the last iteration, fine, but don’t blame B&N, blame the demons.

      Thank you, sir. I did look you up and what I really noticed besides Danny was the Bruin / Northstars game back in 77 on your channel. Big Ranger fan who can't get enough of NHL hockey.

    The tone to me sounds reminiscent of some Allman Brothers. Anyone else get that vibe?

    • @networkcobbler
      @networkcobbler 3 роки тому +1

      For sure, if any group was the American version of FM it was the Allman Bros IMHO. For another example, the jam at the end of "Spare Me a Little of Your Love" sounds a lot like "Jessica". But "Spare Me" was from Bare Trees in 1972 and "Jessica" was from Brothers and Sisters in 1973,

    Unfortunately a lot of people have not even heard of FM before the Lindsey Fuckingham and Stevie Pricks version of this great band. Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwin and Bob Welch mean NOTHING to 75% of today’s FM fans. Sad because they were great from the very beginning to the end of the Bob Welch error. Then they went to commercial shit and made millions. Sad - but let’s face it - money is what it’s all about.
