My great grandmother, who only recently passed away, rest her, probably learned to drive in 1935, more or less. Her mother worked as a mechanic during WWII and because she was such an independent motorhead she taught her girls to drive as soon as she could, and grandma didn't stop driving for decades. Grandma was the driver in her marriage, because while her husband may have been a brilliant engineer he was somehow illiterate at the same time, so he couldn't read the signs. She was the navigator and drove all over the country before the turn of the century. So yes, women in America have been driving for a while.
The first woman to drive was still a few years ahead then needed but yes, when it comes to driving, women weren't exactly not allowed in the US. They must have been seen as worse drivers than men, as people still do, but they weren't stopped from driving. Unlike, Saudi Arabia which I just read gave women the right to drive in 2019.
@@Shilpa_Kujur I think it was just more of a cultural norm for ladies to stay at home and not leave their homes without their husbands/brothers/fathers/sons and so a lady driving herself around might have just been seen as circumstantial anomaly. But I SA I believe women still need a male escort or something like that to leave their house, so the whole driving thing is kind of negated by everything else.
Okay between the driving/car chase, mini golf, and all the logic puzzles I think this might be my new favorite Nancy Drew. This was so funny and so much fun to watch, the perfect thing to have on while I bake today 🍰😊 Thanks Gab!!✨
All your Nancy Drew playthroughs bring me back to childhood roots every time. I can still hear the roaring of my computer tower trying to boot up a Nancy game.
15:00 as someone who lost a parent too young, that is pretty much the exact right response. It's a horribly lonely club as you are so happy your friends don't get it, but they don't get it. Helping with chores, going with them to run errands, etc. is exactly the right thing to do 💜 This game can be a little tough for me, as ONE MONTH out from a parent's death is barely anything
OMG the telegram delivered to the nursery is an Easter egg for Little shop of horror. Seymour is the name of the shop owner and he has a plant that grows so large that it starts eating people. When the plant bites him he is getting a telegram at that time in the movie. I recommend watching it. Then the camp when alice calls for Jason. Granite the lakes name was crystal lake. It's a Friday the 13th Easter egg. Both movies are horror movies.
And don't forget Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm! Not a horror movie, but still. I want to say there was a movie version starring Shirley Temple? Which would explain the voice acting, ha!
It seems that some or all of the telegrams are references. The nursery is based off a musical called Little Shop of Horrors-the protagonist Seymore is bit by a plant that turns out to be from outer space. The camp references Jason from Friday the 13th, Rebecca of Sunnybrook farm is a children’s novel, and Lowood Academy is from Jane Eyre. Fun little Easter eggs!
Last train to blue moon canyon was my first Nancy game. I remember playing it with my best friend during a stormy day. Such happy memories, I’m so excited for you to play it!
These Nancy Drew videos are my comfort whenever I am sad and this one delivered right on time. Thank you so much for playing these cause I love them and it reminds me of my childhood playing these games!
I’m so glad I made it to the stream, but probably an hour late. It was interesting to see chat interact - and I was able to not just help out, but give some trivia about the game and the book series.
Ah yes, Nancy Drew's first case, before she discovered she was immortal. There can be only one! (beheads the Hardy Boys) Edit: I think my sister had a reprint of the novel this game was based on, back in the 80's.
I clicked it so fast!! Don’t get me wrong I have been enjoying the other videos a lot, but I missed this series! It has such a special place in my heart and seeing Gabs loving it too and complimenting the writers and designers makes me so happy
Looks like they combined Secret of the Old Clock and Mystery at Lilac Inn. Josiah being an eccentric old man and leaving money to people was kept in as well as Richard Topham but the relationship between the two was changed. Topham in the book was a relative. And in the book Josiah left his money to two old ladies and they're great neice. Lilac Inn is sadly one of the books I'm missing.
Hi Gab, I just wanted to say that I found your profile through Sean's and never in my life have I been so entertained and chilled out because of the youtube videos! Seriously, your whole demeanour and the way you talk is so calming. I came for indie horror, but I'm staying for Nancy Drew and basically everything else, including BB :D Thanks a lot!
I love all the literary homages in town, with Lowood Academy and Sunnybrook Farm and all. It's so sweet. Thanks for playing this game, Gab, I love it when you play Nancy Drew games!
My mom had all the Namcy Drew books from her childhood and passed the love of them to me. Sadly the books are atill cloistered in my grandma’s old house and my uncle will never let me have them. These games bring back the long summer days of just reading without a care.
2:45 how I felt working overnights as a gas station cashier. "Hi! How's your night going?" "Well my ex-husband called to tell me my son's in jail for selling drugs again so now I gotta go bail him out. Let me tell you the drama of what happened the first time....." Me:😕
I’m so happy you became a Nancy fan and are going through all of the games, these are some of my favorites!! Glad you seem to be enjoying them so much😊
Gab I love your whole Nancy Drew series so much! If you’re craving a point and click adventure kinda-ish like Nancy Drew you should try Thimbleweed Park. It’s highly reviewed and relatively slept on by UA-camrs/streamers, but it’s full of charm, humor, and puzzles. I think it’s about the length of a Nancy drew game maybe a little longer. I’d love to watch you play it through!
Always love seeing you play Nancy Drew! I think 13-18 is my favorite string of games, they hit a really good stride and I am so excited to watch you play. Especially now that my old discs don't work anymore... Thanks as always for the time and care you put into these eps to read all the news and lore. So much fun!
I grew up voraciously reading the Hardy Boys books while eating spaghetti (or evacuating it later) and I never once touched a Nancy Drew book, thinking as an adolescent: "that's the girl version." But Gab, your Nancy Drew playthroughs have me hooked--it's how I unwind in the evening and I daresay I like Nancy Drew better than the Hardy Boys by a longshot now XD Thanks so much for playing these games and being the sweet, chill person you are. You remind me a lot of a cousin of mine actually. God bless and all the best.
We had the physical copy for this game once, sad to say it got ruined by cats. Aside from that, I'm glad the Nancy Drew series is getting new eyes on it. Really can't wait for you to reach Warnings at Waverly Academy!
Sometimes Nancy Drew games feel like the ending is cut really short. This is definitely one of them. I guess it's not like it doesn't make sense - things do get explained in the letter or postcard at the end, but it's still always quite abrupt for certain games. Oh well.
Ahhh your Nancy Drew playthroughs are always so comforting and relaxing, I can't fall asleep without having one on lately haha ❤️ I'm a bit sad that I haven't been able to stay for many streams but the upside is I get to see the entertaining editing 😝
Yaaay, Nancy Drew! I watched the stream and it was hilarious! I’m still trying to fathom that this took place in 1930, but it is technically from the first book ever made of ND if you want to read it in your own time
Gotta say I was a Nancy Drew skeptic when I first started watching these but now I am like obsessed. I literally shrieked at my gf when I saw a new Nancy Drew dropped.
Fun fact, women in America have been driving for a long time. women have been allowed to drive cars since the 19th century. , Driving, Motorcycling, Cycling, or Walking since 1980. If you count teams of horses, American women have been driving for as long as America has been around, July 4, 1776, roughly speaking. However women were still mostly chauffeured in the 1930, that didn’t mean they couldn’t drive, just give a hell of a shock to the people working at the gas/service station.
COMFORT STREAMER MY QUEEN I love these Nancy Drew videos, I personally never heard about Nancy Drew before seeing you (I am from Argentina) and watching these makes me so calm, curious and happy. You're the goddess of puzzles, and you do all your videos amazing. Have a precious day 🥺
A universal experience for everyone I've played this game with is being total garbage at the mini golf, so I was shocked and awed by your skill. You are always impressively good at Nancy games but that was a stand out moment. Love your videos as always!!!
We should have guessed it was this woman tbh. She doesn't know her best friend's middle name, she is adamant she can't sew and is hopeless at it and won't even show us, is bad at organising pies, tells the police and us that our friend is losing her marbles due to stress. I bet she constantly tellls us to go upstairs and talk to her, while she went down the underground path to eavesdrop.
Was that a Little Shop of Horrors reference at 1:04:07 when she delivered a telegram for Seymour? And then the plant tried to bite him? XD Thank you writers XD Glad to see you play another Nancy Drew! Thanks Gab!
Evelien, just wanted to say thank you so much for playing all these Nancy Drew games. I have always appreciated their chill vibes but I had so many I hadn't seen that with Old Clock coming out on your channel, I decided to put the Playlist on from where I left off. I've gotten into cross stitching as something I can do as a chronically ill person and have made Luna from Sailor Moon and Totoro while listening to Nancy. They're for a friend. Thank you.
I love watching all the Nancy Drew playthroughs. It gives me that nice dose of nostalgia from playing, but now i have it as something on in the background while I do some work. Thank you!
Love this! I read this and all the other Nancy Drew books too. We had a party line growing up in rural Montana. People would sigh and you'd hear the click of them hanging up when we'd monopolize the phone.😅
Oh my God this game brings me back to fifth grade, sitting at my best friends computer, playing this all day together. It's been nearly 15 years since then but I still remember almost all the puzzles! Edit: I thought about it after I posted this and it's been more than 15 years! Lol I feel so old now
I recently badly broke my ankle and have been feeling pretty lonely and bored at home and a friend recommended these videos. I've been watching them every night this week while I wind down for bed and can't wait to keep watching while I recover after surgery on Monday.
Another Nancy Drew game! And based, if loosely, on her first adventure. I read her books and the Hardy Boys as a wee thing, so this is doubly exciting. :) Though it was almost painful watching Gab not pay any attention to the responses to delivered telegrams. They were all answers to the riddles; "cross cross" = "I'm not gon'a *double cross* ya or nothin'", "doll up", "all wet", and so on. :)
I got so excited about the Little Shop of Horrors reference! When she goes to the plant nursery to deliver the telegram the guy's name is Seymour and his plant bites him!
Yaaay, Gab playing Nancy!! I love when you play these murder mistery games. I know they were a hassle to translate, but I'd love to see something similar to those japanese detective games back on the channel. Keep up the amazing work~
The cat’s name Yuri is a reference to the second game, Stay Tuned for Danger. Rick Arlen played two characters on Light of Our Love and one of them was Rory Danner’s evil twin, Yuri.
The robot cat's name is Suki. Yuri is also a genre in Japanese fiction. But some people mentioned this cat might be a tongue-in-cheek reference to Uri Geller.
Love a good Nancy Drew game. Also, I had a sudden realization watching this. Nancy Drew is immortal. This game in 1930 then flash forward to cell phones in later games. Immortality confirmed. Either that or she is being reincarnated every decade or she has a lot of doppelgangers. Haha!
i think someone said it already but if you're going to play haunting of castle malloy please have Sean play with you! it's big on irish culture and legends. also thanks gabs!! been enjoying your nancy drew series to relieve stress!
Secret of the Old Clock was the 1st Nancy Drew book I read, @ age 7, & I was instantly a fan. So fitting that this is the 1st Nancy Drew game play thru I'm watching.

2:11:22 She’s right. Sewing takes practice. I broke two needles sewing a long pillowcase last week. It was on a sturdy antique Singer built into its table. I asked my mom to finish the last little bit. A former dressmaker (if she were who she said she was) would not need to keep practicing. I’ve half a mind to pull out the shiny new Singer to make some pajamas. I’ve got a blue fabric with adorable foxes on it. Super cute
Awesome playthrough, Gab! Idk if I'm just seeing things, but Jane looks and sounds like she was based off Joan Cusack. Kept thinking about that every time she was on screen lol. Can't wait for the next Nancy Drew game! :)

@@arielafina I've been reading Nancy Drew to my six year old and the hidden staircase book is one of her favorites! They're just such good books that I've LOVED since I was young and started reading! And watching Evelien play the games is so entertaining! 😄👍
I'm always just so happy to see gab play a navy drew game. Can't wait to be throughly entertained
I'm dying at "Of course it tastes bad, Clarence! It's a pinecone!"
I was searching for a comment about this! Yes! Women have been able to drive in the US since the 1880’s!
This is such a cool comment, thanks for telling your family's story!
If your grandfather couldn't read signs, maybe he had dyslexia.
ok but josiah crowley and richard topham definitely explored each other's bodies
I got so excited when I realized the little shop of horrors reference!!
Very clever of the writers to include the clue about the sewing. You don't just "forget" how to sew so easily!
I’m so glad I made it to the stream, but probably an hour late. It was interesting to see chat interact - and I was able to not just help out, but give some trivia about the game and the book series.
Ah yes, Nancy Drew's first case, before she discovered she was immortal. There can be only one! (beheads the Hardy Boys)
Edit: I think my sister had a reprint of the novel this game was based on, back in the 80's.
This game is actually based on the first 4 Nancy Drew books! It’s only named after the first one, though.
@@Iluvpie6In 2026 the first four books will be in public domain.
For the curious, according to google, Nancy was getting the equivalent of $4.25 per telegram she delivered.
Glad I'm not the only one to notice! Lilac Inn was my very first Nancy Drew book and I'm quite happy to see it worked in.
They combined the first 4 books together. Mainly the Bungalow Mystery, with the fake guardian.
"Hi! How's your night going?"
"Well my ex-husband called to tell me my son's in jail for selling drugs again so now I gotta go bail him out. Let me tell you the drama of what happened the first time....."
Me:😕
My same thoughts when I had the same job.
"Ma'am, this a gas station, I'm not a bartender..."
“Well where’s the f’in hole in the ground?” Idk why but that cracked me up
I’m so happy you became a Nancy fan and are going through all of the games, these are some of my favorites!!
I grew up voraciously reading the Hardy Boys books while eating spaghetti (or evacuating it later) and I never once touched a Nancy Drew book, thinking as an adolescent: "that's the girl version."
But Gab, your Nancy Drew playthroughs have me hooked--it's how I unwind in the evening and I daresay I like Nancy Drew better than the Hardy Boys by a longshot now XD
Thanks so much for playing these games and being the sweet, chill person you are. You remind me a lot of a cousin of mine actually. God bless and all the best.
9:42 Gab's reaction is so freakin hilarious
We had the physical copy for this game once, sad to say it got ruined by cats. Aside from that, I'm glad the Nancy Drew series is getting new eyes on it. Really can't wait for you to reach Warnings at Waverly Academy!
Sometimes Nancy Drew games feel like the ending is cut really short. This is definitely one of them. I guess it's not like it doesn't make sense - things do get explained in the letter or postcard at the end, but it's still always quite abrupt for certain games. Oh well.
Always so happy to watch Gab play Nancy Drew

Ahhh your Nancy Drew playthroughs are always so comforting and relaxing, I can't fall asleep without having one on lately haha ❤️ I'm a bit sad that I haven't been able to stay for many streams but the upside is I get to see the entertaining editing 😝
The jazz music for this game has lived rent free in my head for almost 10 years now 😂
Yaaay, Nancy Drew! I watched the stream and it was hilarious! I’m still trying to fathom that this took place in 1930, but it is technically from the first book ever made of ND if you want to read it in your own time
I had no idea that there were books thanks for this
@@purplenurple6278 no problem! And yeah, the games are based on the ND book series! The first was in 1930
@@purplenurple6278 I actually grew up on some of the books; most of them were the more "recent" editions, from around the time of my childhood.
It was actually based on the first three books.
@@RabbitsFunWorld oh, I didn’t know! Thanks!
No idea what accent Jane is supposed to have but it's hilarious.
I'm thinking its supposed to be like from New York (Like Bronx or something similar) or maybe like a Jersey accent?
@@vermontvampyre Do you know what Miss Jakowski's was supposed to be? It sounded kinda Marisa Tomei of My Cousin Vinny to me lol.
Thank you.
Yay, it's Nancy Drew time. Time for more extreme wholesomeness.
Nothing makes me happier at work than listening to Gab playing Nancy Drew, I live for these uploads xD
This was one of my favorite Nancy drew games as a kid. It's so nostalgia seeing you play this!
Another Nancy Drew game! And based, if loosely, on her first adventure. I read her books and the Hardy Boys as a wee thing, so this is doubly exciting. :)
Though it was almost painful watching Gab not pay any attention to the responses to delivered telegrams.
And she delivers another to the same place for Audrey!!!
Only just noticed that at 1:04:20 Seymour from the nursery and his biting plant is a reference to little shop of horrors! Very keen lol
Brockelhurst at Lowood was a Jane Eyre reference.
I'm SO ready! Perfect timing for a new Nancy playthrough! Thank you!!
Yaaay, Gab playing Nancy!! I love when you play these murder mistery games. I know they were a hassle to translate, but I'd love to see something similar to those japanese detective games back on the channel. Keep up the amazing work~
Maybe now she can hire an editor to help her? If her current editor doesn't already know Japanese
The cat’s name Yuri is a reference to the second game, Stay Tuned for Danger. Rick Arlen played two characters on Light of Our Love and one of them was Rory Danner’s evil twin, Yuri.
Now that is a reference I’ve never caught before, despite having played both games.
The robot cat in the ghost game is named something like yuri too, might be yuri
The robot cat's name is Suki. Yuri is also a genre in Japanese fiction. But some people mentioned this cat might be a tongue-in-cheek reference to Uri Geller.
All my love for Nancy Drew games and HOGs - it's really so appreciated that you have chill uploads like this!
"I would like to have this framed" LOL! That would be so fitting :D
Yay! I love these Nancy Drew videos/mysteries. Your commentary make these total gems
YES!! I was just opening the nancy drew playlist to rewatch some of the old streams and I'm so excited there's a new one out!!
Haha!
"Good for you, here's your money" would make a good bit notification sound lol
i got unreasonably excited about this. I love this series so much
I did word logic puzzles like those in high school. I love the Nancy Drew play throughs.
i think someone said it already but if you're going to play haunting of castle malloy please have Sean play with you! it's big on irish culture and legends. also thanks gabs!! been enjoying your nancy drew series to relieve stress!
Secret of the Old Clock was the 1st Nancy Drew book I read, @ age 7, & I was instantly a fan.
So fitting that this is the 1st Nancy Drew game play thru I'm watching.
Uhh then you're in for a treat, she has a whole Playlist of Nancy Drew Games, I can't recommend it enough. She will eventually play through all of Nancy Drew games.
@@timeisaweirdsoup I've been binging Gab's videos cuz I'm new to her channel, so her Nancy Drew playlist hasn't been watched yet, but I was in the mood for a long video & this popped up & I went why not?
I used to absolutely love these games! Imagine my surprise that anyone else even knows about them when I thought I was the only one who liked them 😂
Does Jane have a Midwestern accent? It sounds like she came from somewhere like Minnesota or Wisconsin. Which would explain how open she was to sharing.
Oh it's absolutely Meenehsoda
@@HumbleDial I dunno why, and people probably think it's weird, but I find a lady talking in that accent kinda cute.
Ben Anasarias As a native Minnesotan, I can confirm.
@@41tinman41 Personally I'm from Wi, and I only get that kind of accent when I'm talking to my little nieces and nephews, it's certainly meant to be cute for us!
as a minnesotan i was not getting that at all. maybe wisconsin, I’m not sure- but mn accents sound closer to canadian accents to me. maybe bc I’m more up north tho.
Someone: whoa, how did you learn that?
Me: I watched a Nancy Drew play through...
Omg I heard the cat and thought it was the new kitten my partner and I just adopted. I was like WTF? Haha. Love supporting a fellow cat mom. We are now the happy parents of 3 wonderful kitties!
Really enjoyed this Nancy a lot! It was a perfect Sunday morning relaxation ☺️ SO ready for Blue Moon Canyon!!
Oh my God, the _Jane Eyre_ references! Lowood Academy, Miss Temple, Mr. Brocklehurst!
my mom used to collect the Nancy Drew Books. This was the first I ever read. I adore it.
What a perfect thing to see after my nap from my cold! I’m ready for more Nancy drew!❤️
Super cute
Man, the secret of the old clock is the first nancy drew book I ever read!
Oh wow! They included the Rubaiyat! Nice attention to detail!
Awesome playthrough, Gab! Idk if I'm just seeing things, but Jane looks and sounds like she was based off Joan Cusack. Kept thinking about that every time she was on screen lol. Can't wait for the next Nancy Drew game! :)
Freaking love that you play these games, lobe coming home after work and chilling with my dog to you and Nancy sleuthing!
obsessed with your videos! i cant play old nancy drew games anymore on my mac software version and your videos give me my fix
Fun fact! The picture of the house used for twin elms is the Biltmore in North Carolina, USA! Cool place to visit!
Me totally not binge watching every Nancy Drew game she plays 😂😂😂 it's been 2 weeks and I'm just now on this one
Hey Gab, ever heard of a game called "The Last Express" came out around 2001. Windows 98. This reminds me so much of that old game, pretty awesome.
I always feel so snuggled and comfy when I see these, thank you again!
WAIT, I just realized something... I think the "Keen" references are a reference to Carolyn Keene, A.K.A the alias of the author of the Nancy Drew books! How did I not realize this as a kid when I played this game several times? xD
I love that you are playing Nancy drew games, I spent alot of my pre-teen/teen years playing these games 🥰
Omg I've waited so long to see someone play Nancy Drew games. This warms my heart with memories as a kid playing them with my sisters. Thank you so much Gab!❤
This is my favorite!!) My Nancy Drew adventure started with Secret of the Old Clock!))
Me too!!
Ok I’m 14 minutes in but I swear to Christ if this whole thing is a “there’s always money in the banana stand” bit…
My two year old and I love watching your videos. The Nancy Drew ones are favorites in this house!
Going through some stressful times and Gab comes through with new Nancy Drew!
I watched this video yesterday and the jazz music has been stuck in my head ever since.
Update: it’s day 3 and still stuck in my head
