You need to look a bit further. The i30 N TCR currently has the lap record on the ring for TCR cars. Since that car uses the same engine and chassis as the regular i30 N. The i30N will run circles around that Clio and Golf on the Ring. It's only slower than the Type R because it has a deficit in hp. Hyundai also entered 2 standard i30 N's in the 24h race: The #92 car was shared by Vincent Radermecker from Belgium, Stuart Leonard from the UK, automotive journalist Christian Gebhardt from Germany, and Hyundai R&D engineer Jaekyun Kim. In relatively incident-free race, it completed 135 laps, finished 4th in Class, and 50th overall. As for the #95 entry, Pieter Schothorst from the Netherlands, automotive journalist Jens Dralle, and Hyundai R&D engineers Youngsun Jee and Jonghyuk Kwon did the driving duties. They crossed the line a further 25 laps behind, 9th in Class, and 95th out of 109 finishers. No other adjustments were made than what was strictly necessary to meat FIA regulations: role cage, fire extinguisher, single seat.
@@Iron883Man tcr like in an actual racecar? You are comparing a racecar with a hothatch. Makes absolute sense. Then compare the tcr versions of Peugeot, vw, Opel....
Rudy Oeyen WTCC cars use that same unmodified chassis and same engine. How is laprecord for WTCC cars not comparing against other WTCC cars? When you level the playing field in terms of power that N chassis is faster around a the ring than the others. So why would it be slower around the ring against cars with a deficit in power like the ones he mentions? It’s perfectly capable of doing sub 8 minutes in the right conditions and driven by a pro driver. I'm aiming it somewhere between 8 minutes and the Megane III RS Trophy time from 2014: 7m54s
They used the same engine in a different state of tune. Notice how I said 'unmodified chassis' and 'same engine'. You can check WTCC regulations. It's all in there.
John Wilhelm Because these cars are for people who love driving, DSG is for housewives that can't drive manual. Also, the VW DSG would be lucky to get through a track day without breaking.
schumifan78 that just goes to show your lack of knowledge on the topic. VW DSG are extremely robust just ask anyone who has one tuned. Mine is a APR Stage 2 that has been tuned for coming up on 2 years. As far as your opinions are concerned you can have them just make sure it is coming from fact and not your biased opinions. If Paddle shirting technology is so bad then why does F1 use them. Performance that’s why. Again your options are your opinions. I’ve driven a few ST and think they are cheap hence why you don’t see many of them in the road. As far as VW GTI’s go they must be doing something right because everyone continues to try and copy them and fails. I actually like the Type R but it’s not worth the money when for $700 you can tune a GTI that you can get for $23,000 and make it faster than the $35,000 Type R. As far as the Hyundai i30N is concerned again I like it but it needs to stand the test of time. To put it in perspective the i30N Performance is Hyundai’s top N car which puts out 278hp/260tq and it runs a claimed 0-60 in 6.0 seconds per Hyundai. The stock DSG GTI with 210hp runs the identical 0-60 time. So take the GTI PP DSG with its more hp, Golf R brakes, bigger rear sway bar and LSD. You can see the point I’m making. Best bang for the buck in its class hands down. Brand new I got my 2017 Sport GTI PP DSG with 24 miles on it for $22,470. Now I’m running with APR Stage 2 340hp/390tq all at the wheel for just over a $1,000 put into it and I still haven’t come close to the price of a Type R. VW is doing something right and that’s what I will stick with.
soundseeker63 your key word being most. If they are going to allow one other car to use it then they should have included all cars that had it as an option.
Why should they? To please DSG fanboys? Some of the cars only offer manual and some only offer auto, while some offer both. It wasn't possible for them to all be the same no matter what options were chosen. And yes, we know DSGs are quicker, yet many drivers still find manual more involving and offering better control for track driving so what makes you think the outcome would have been much different with a DSG? In case you didn't notice the GTi and the more expensive more powerful AWD Golf R got beaten by a 1.6 liter FWD Peugeot so clearly they not as marvelous performance cars as you (and a lot of people) like to think. And sure they are tunable but so are all modern turbocharged cars and if you have to spend $$$$ on a Golf just to make it a match for rivals that are stock that just proves how lousy they are stock rather than how great they are when tuned.
So this is the first mass comparison video where the i30n is quickest?? Doesn't seem right. Has the same bhp as the 308 GTi, but weighs 250kg more... In other head to head videos the 308 GTi itself was much quicker, and I can't see how anything beat the type r.... Think this is paid for

Hey guys - You're a professional brand so not sure why certain things are in issue - If you want to increase your channel success, a video like this should be about 25 minutes long, you're looking at a LOT of cars and each one gets such a small amount of air time, I'm sure you got enough footage on teh day to make a longer video, and youtube will rank you based on viewing time. You should constantly have over exposed footage on light coloured cars, and underexposed footage you had to stretch so it's full of noise - Makes it look unprofessional, yes WHEELS is a succssful Australian magazine - But it makes the whole thing look amateurish.
@@shadowgaming6660 So get another one an do the test. You act like stuff is to complicated for you to comprehend. You really think the test results for the rs are disqualified because everyone made will break down.
Yeah this was sort of a hodge podge of cars (some of which are not even hatches * confused*). Some on the very low end and some on on the higher end. The m140i would have pulled times near the top for sure, it would have also been the most expensive.
3litre lump with a relatively small hatch restricted family capability imo ,these were basically 2.0 ltr motors, "Hot hatch" originally was a sporty , family car with, reasonable boot space for holiday stuff / flexibility .(Golf Gti mk1)
Because the 140i would smoke everyone here. It's b58 engine is nearly on the level of the rs3 which costs a huge amount more. there are 2 undisputed kings in the hatch category, it's the rs 3 with the beautiful 5 zylinder engine. and ofc the 140i as the 2 wheel drive and it's inline 6 with enormous tuning potential.
Opposed to arguing with you're perfectly reasonable and explained outcome on the winner, my memory is not attentive enough to remember and compare the lap times of all the cars. A simple screen at the end of the video with the all the cars lap times together for comparison seems to me a obvious finale.
Hyundai, who would have imagined... I remember buying my first new car, a Hyundai Excel Sprint in 1998 for $12,990 driveway because of the (unheard of at the time) 3 year warranty LOL! Just like the thousands of young new drivers on a budget, fed up with repairing old clapped out bombs. As good as it was at the time & $$$, I couldn't wait to get my next "proper car" , I vowed never to buy a dull "Hyundai" ever again... 23 years later, and having driven, owned and experimented with most makes and models, I might be at full circle. The first Hyundai since then that has caught the attention from all motoring enthusiast. I must take the N Performance for a test drive! Never say never...
To my knowledge the civic type R , focus RS an ST are the untouchables when it comes to cornering an handling on the track This is not a fair test you should have used the focus RS which is 261kw an that should be the winning car at this test
As proven on almost every other comparison anywhere in the universe, in track conditions, and road performance the Civic Type-R absolutely TRUMPS anything in its path. The i30N is a very good car for the money you pay, but only comes close to cars like the Civic R, Megane RS etc on REALLY, REALLY tight circuits where you can't actually use the full potential of bigger cars. It's like top gears comparison of a Ferrari and a Fiat Panda in a kart track. The panda is almost as quick. lol
William K DSG is for housewives that can't drive manual, also it probably couldn't get through a day at the track without breaking. When your DSG does break, good luck getting a warranty claim out of VW. But then again their pathetic warranty doesn't cover you if you go to a track day anyway.
schumifan78 Nice try. My first was a manual, I owned another manual car after that, and also owned a motorcycle. You’re not special because you choose to row your own gears on a daily driver hatchback. Guess you think M-DCT and PDK are for housewives too? They’re dual clutch autos too, just like the DSG.
schumifan78 yep...every modern Ferrari, lamborghini and bugatti are for housewives. You've never driven a proper high performance dual clutch fitted car in your life princess...about time you took your AU falcon through the drive thru for the 10th time this week and shutup i reckon.
www.wheels24.co.za/News/here-are-the-top-25-global-car-brands-and-models-20180223 Nothwithstanding it doesn't mather jack shit how big a company is. A Golf GTI or even a Golf R is far inferior as a driver's car to a Focus RS, Type R or an i30N. VW became boring as soon as they started using the MQB platform for every possible vehicle they could come up with. It's a platform that is 100% focused on ease of assembly and pleasing the masses (who demand comfort rather than entertaining driving dynamics). Just look at any hot hatch. Almost all of them have completely reworked or newly developped chassis. Non of the VAG ones do and are ultimatly still focused on daily drivability rather than track focused driving dynamics. That's fine if you are looking for a daily drivable 'hot hatch', but not of you're looking for a car that can hold up on a track. For informational sake:VAG consists of 12 brands - VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Porsche, Laborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, Ducati, VW Commercial Vehicles, Scania trucks and Man trucks. General motors unites 8 brands. Hyundai unites 3 brands (Hyundai/KIA/Genesis).
Well 308Gti, Golf R, Type-R has more powerful engine and has more horsepower. But they are worse than i30N in corners. In drag race i30N all ways loses because of it's horsepower. Still it's ok because i30N is actually the cheepest car in there.
The 308 has a 1.6l. 200kg is not enough to make up for the loss of displacement on this track. It's clearly a track that favours shorter wheelbase (why it beat the Civic) and torque (why it beat the 308) + the i30N has stiffer suspension and a chassis that has no problem coping with that added weight. Not a single car in this range will be faster than every other on every track. They each have their strengths and weaknesses and apperantly they chose a track that favours the i30 N. You don't know hot hatches if you think there is one superior for every situation...there isn't.
TheDudeInTheRedHotHatch actually they both have stuff suspension and yes the i30n has a bigger engine but it's got more weight to pull and not even the displacement doesn't matter since those to have the same power. Lightness is always the key for the track, you can't say that the 308 has a bad steering since it got a "3r"d place but obviously Hyundai is paying them, but come on faking lap times? In any track the 308 is 1 sec and above faster let alone the type who should have gotten the 1rst place
_Alex_samaYT_ The 308 isn’t faster in every condition. Stop being a fanboy. I owned a 308 and now own an i30N. I know these cars very well and no, the Peugeot does not have anywhere near as stiff suspension as the i30 in track mode. And no, they don’t have the same power output. The Power in the N is available way earlier than in the 308 and across a much wider range in the rpm. For every track you can find where the 308 is faster you’ll find another one where the N is faster. For starters, the N is faster around the Nurburgring, where is was developed.
@@Iron883Man if you are going to compare the nurburgring time ... then this case is closed .. because there is no way the n30 can take down the king of the fwd cars on that basis 7.43 on the RING says alot for the fk8
No doubt, this is a hyundai ad.. Civic Type R is first in lap time followed by peugeot 308, if hyundai i30n is that fast...pls try to beat nurburgring lap time of Honda Civic Type R
These performace testing are very muchly subjective.. if am gonna do this testing the type R might always win.. However; it all depends on customer's preference.. Lile me.. I like the performance of the honda and i am not satisfied with just the stock power output of it.. it has to be pushed up a little bit more.. can't keep my hands off them.. for daily drive car; i will be happy with skoda or hyundai..
The Type R carries more power in those straights in Nurburgring, this track is tighter and more demanding to the chassis. The next iteration of the i30N, it will surely get a boost beyond 300hp, the chassis can handle it and I don't think the engine has peaked (tuning wise).
It's small track with ups and downs so i guess it's a better indicator how they perform on the road, it awarded agile cars with shorter wheelbase rather than horsepower, even clio hanged with the big fellows, type r although came second didn't shine because its more focused on stability than low speed agility, i30 and 308 are both very good and i think rigity and better diff made the difference
I can only comment upon the Honda and the Hyundai, having owned both over the last 9 months. I owned the Type R from last December until May this year and was hugely impressed with its grunt and capability, however, it just doesn't really involve the driver as much as the vastly cheaper Hyundai or provide a similar grin factor. I am not a Hyundai shill, simply giving my opinion of the two. The Type R is a fantastic car that I was delighted to own, to the i30N disparagers I simply say try one before you comment!
The Civic Type R has always been slugged for not being as good coming out of tight slow corners compared to other hot hatches. No surprise here with its lap time.
Although not the fastest car around, its a bit heavy and a bit long in the tooth, id still have the WRX STI over any of this lot for the whole brutal experience. And it would last longer. This lot are all lightweight fashion cars that wont last five minutes.
Check out the car advice hot hatch video for the drag race times. Golf R is .5 sec faster than the next competitor (Focus RS) because AWD and DSG. Slowest was Hyundai 1.5 secs later.
I love the WRX and the STI, they are my favorite. I don't see how the STI scored so low. 😢 Subaru WRX time: 1:05.4 seen at 4:17 into video. Subaru WRX STI time: 1:05.2 seen at 5:20 into video.
might aswell have thrown in the subaru BRZ / Toyota gt86 since you added some sedans with the excuse that they were in price range.. Also why would you add the BMW 125i and not the 135 or 140i?
Simon L I have one and it looks awesome in the flesh. But personal preference is the basis here so it’ll vary from person to person as to which is the best looking car.
You gave less than 1 min coverage to the Honda which IMO is the best car here. Yes you gave it second but.......u still duded it. Journos love Hyundai................must be reasons for this??
Best is a very subjective thing isn't it. If you qualify it by saying the best performer on the track, then it's obviously very close judging by their numbers. Best overall car? It's not even in the same league as some of the others. The looks, the ride, the practicality, all season traction, etc.
Mgoblagulkablong Not every track is the same. The i30N is actually faster than the Honda on this kind of track (Narrow, no high speed sections, tight turns) because it has a much shorter wheelbase. I agree the Honda is the better track car for an average GT type of track. But it’s not the better car overall. I would have bought one over the i30N if a) it didn’t look like a complete joke and b) if it offered just a bit more for what it costs over an i30N. For me, the difference between the 2 is just too small to justify spending 10k AUD more...even on a track. The Civic is more efficient and more powerful, but the i30N is more fun and the N custom mode is just priceless. You’ll never drive that Honda in Sport+ mode on public roads. The N solves that problem by letting you choose your own setup, and that is huge factor in how fun it is to drive ALL the time and not just on a race track.
Compare it to the 308 GTi then. Especially on tight tracks like in this video the Peugeot has proven to be much quicker, it is a lot lighter and the tighter the track, the bigger the role of the weight advantage of the Peugeot becomes. If the Hyundai is significantly slower than the Peugeot in dozens of tests and then suddenly it is faster in this test on a track layout that clearly favors the Peugeot even more, this test is obviously fishy.
Whether it's really the fastest one or not, I would still take i30N because it looks more athletic, well put together and that exhaust noise is simply unbeatable. Well done Hyundai!
You could just get a crackle map for almost any other car shown on this test and they'd sound the same, if not better.

The #92 car was shared by Vincent Radermecker from Belgium, Stuart Leonard from the UK, automotive journalist Christian Gebhardt from Germany, and Hyundai R&D engineer Jaekyun Kim.
@@Iron883Man on 308 GTI has 270hp. The tcr has 355. Not really the same engine
They used the same engine in a different state of tune. Notice how I said 'unmodified chassis' and 'same engine'. You can check WTCC regulations. It's all in there.
Why do they never use the GTI PP DSG!
John Wilhelm Because these cars are for people who love driving, DSG is for housewives that can't drive manual.
Also, the VW DSG would be lucky to get through a track day without breaking.
Most of the other cars here were manual so its a more direct comparison.
schumifan78 that just goes to show your lack of knowledge on the topic.
Is there a reason the Focus RS isn’t in this video ???
Where was ford RS???
So this is the first mass comparison video where the i30n is quickest?? Doesn't seem right. Has the same bhp as the 308 GTi, but weighs 250kg more... In other head to head videos the 308 GTi itself was much quicker, and I can't see how anything beat the type r.... Think this is paid for

pops and bangs too old? They were exactly the same cars then as they are now! 😂You’re just making weak excuses now. The Hyundai is a great first effort but it’s been proven in many tests now to not quite have the dynamic ability of the 308 gti (mainly thanks to it’s weight problem) although it does sound better..
wtf? why not the 140i? or even the 130?
Renault megane 275 not included. Might have shown some of the other s up.
Kym Somerville There’s no Megane RS available in Australia at the moment. I think the new one is due late this year.
Not sure why you had the GTI and the golf R an wrx an the Sti but why did you only bring the st focus an both the rs !?
No Focus RS?
It broke down on the way there.
@@shadowgaming6660 So get another one an do the test. You act like stuff is to complicated for you to comprehend. You really think the test results for the rs are disqualified because everyone made will break down.

Why you took a bmw 125i and not he bigger own like 135i or 140i?
Wow I was thinking about the Hyundai before... now I'm really thinking about it.
don't think,just buy,like me.. :)
Why focus ST not RS? Why Clio not Megane? It seem to me that scenario was little too set up.
Why would u have a mini JCW with an auto?
You wouldn’t 😂
Where is the focus rs?
Why no megane rs🤷♂️
What happen to holden astra vxr (shame)!!
Why not list the times at the end...?
No bmw m140i?
Yeah this was sort of a hodge podge of cars (some of which are not even hatches * confused*). Some on the very low end and some on on the higher end. The m140i would have pulled times near the top for sure, it would have also been the most expensive.
3litre lump with a relatively small hatch restricted family capability imo ,these were basically 2.0 ltr motors,
"Hot hatch" originally was a sporty , family car with, reasonable boot space for holiday stuff / flexibility .(Golf Gti mk1)
The families are in SUVs now anyway.. who cares about the boot space when you have RWD on offer
too expensive
Would have kicked the i30n's butt. Which wouldn't have suited the paid ad's aims...
No seat leon?!?
Would of been good to see how the new fiesta st with the diff did against the bigger boys
Yes
What does short shift mean? I drive stick all the time and I've never heard this before.
Why not a WRX-STI?
Why bring the 125i?
Because the 140i would smoke everyone here. It's b58 engine is nearly on the level of the rs3 which costs a huge amount more.
there are 2 undisputed kings in the hatch category, it's the rs 3 with the beautiful 5 zylinder engine.
and ofc the 140i as the 2 wheel drive and it's inline 6 with enormous tuning potential.

Don’t know if the 140i would roast everything here

why no focus rs?
They where changing the head gasket :-)
Opposed to arguing with you're perfectly reasonable and explained outcome on the winner, my memory is not attentive enough to remember and compare the lap times of all the cars. A simple screen at the end of the video with the all the cars lap times together for comparison seems to me a obvious finale.
Two competent hot hatches are missing from this lineup, the Megare RS & the Cupra 300!
Seat isn’t in Oz anymore.
Nice one lads, it all sounds pretty accurate ha. Mine continues to impress on every drive. Thanks Albert B 👍🏻
Some debate as to whether this is a Hyundai advertisement or not. Regardless. The Hyundai ///N is a top little performer.
why did they test the clio and not the Megane?
Never say never...
what about an Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV?
Is known just in Europe
Disappointed you didn't include the fiesta st
To my knowledge the civic type R , focus RS an ST are the untouchables when it comes to cornering an handling on the track
This is not a fair test you should have used the focus RS which is 261kw an that should be the winning car at this test
Altrai Govender the i30 N is as good as they say it is in terms of handling - it’s not joke. Some have claimed it handles better than a type r.
LOL.... a lot of people cannot admit that the i30 N is a superb car superior (at least on this track) to other cars, salty guys.... salty guys....
So no Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV and Abarth 500. What is the reason for that?
because they broke down on the way to the track
phil mcrevis If the Mini didn't I can't see why the Alfa & Fiat couldn't lol
No Focus RS??
No Renault Megane? Nice to see the Clio Rs there but that looks like an older model going by its fog lights.

These reviews seem very sponsored
As proven on almost every other comparison anywhere in the universe, in track conditions, and road performance the Civic Type-R absolutely TRUMPS anything in its path.
The i30N is a very good car for the money you pay, but only comes close to cars like the Civic R, Megane RS etc on REALLY, REALLY tight circuits where you can't actually use the full potential of bigger cars.
It's like top gears comparison of a Ferrari and a Fiat Panda in a kart track. The panda is almost as quick. lol
This channel is really pushing Hyundai. Wonder why???
Yet another comparison with the Golf R outfitted with the slower manual box, geezus.
So it compares more evenly with all the other manual cars there...
schumifan78 yep...every modern Ferrari, lamborghini and bugatti are for housewives.
You've never driven a proper high performance dual clutch fitted car in your life princess...about time you took your AU falcon through the drive thru for the 10th time this week and shutup i reckon.
I always thought this too!! But after owning both a manual and a dsg mk7 golf, I've gotta say, that dsg is phenomenal!!
Great video guys. Surprised so many thumbs down. Maybe too many ads?

Bigger brand than VW?
mate, you are on drugs

Nothwithstanding it doesn't mather jack shit how big a company is.
Hey you do really know that Hyundai motor is actually the 5th biggest car company?
So it really actually dose not matter even though Hyundai made a car than VW or other ect.
Well 308Gti, Golf R, Type-R has more powerful engine and has more horsepower. But they are worse than i30N in corners. In drag race i30N all ways loses because of it's horsepower. Still it's ok because i30N is actually the cheepest car in there.
kW? Seriously? Who uses that?
jlv02 most of the world
Buut i think it must be sponsored the hyundai not 1 bad review !?? Is it realy theat good ?
No way the i30 n is faster than the 308gti its 200kg heavier and its got the same power, well done faking the times
TheDudeInTheRedHotHatch Perfect answer! Case closed.
Where's the Brabus Smart car?
The Civic Type R has always been slugged for not being as good coming out of tight slow corners compared to other hot hatches. No surprise here with its lap time.
Kim Faes F*Kim The Civic would be faster most of the time but the track here didn't do it any favours.
No Cupra 300?
Although not the fastest car around, its a bit heavy and a bit long in the tooth, id still have the WRX STI over any of this lot for the whole brutal experience. And it would last longer. This lot are all lightweight fashion cars that wont last five minutes.
Ernie Flannel thats a lie 😂😂
The French ones yes.
What about some drag races
Check out the car advice hot hatch video for the drag race times. Golf R is .5 sec faster than the next competitor (Focus RS) because AWD and DSG. Slowest was Hyundai 1.5 secs later.

gamerscockpit hahaha butt hurt Honda fanboys are funny
Best is a very subjective thing isn't it. If you qualify it by saying the best performer on the track, then it's obviously very close judging by their numbers. Best overall car? It's not even in the same league as some of the others. The looks, the ride, the practicality, all season traction, etc.
They are just loving the new kid on the block
