Brilliant guide for Guile. I'm picking up guile after learning bad habits with characters who have a ton of special moves - Going to a more simplistic character like guile to learn the building blocks of the game again, been away for a few years. This should really help man thanks.
I'm a NRS player and liked turtle characters (ie sub zero in mk9 ) so I instantly went to guile. This is my first capcom game and I'm struggling to get started, but this video was a great help!
I must say that i've had ssfiv for about 5 days now so im pretty late to the series but your tutorial was really clear and helped alot :) the only problem i hav is the charge time it takes for guile to charge sonic booms. But brilliant vi mate, keep them up ;)
I'm not a beginner (not a pro either -_- ) and I think it's a pretty good tutorial. The video is like 2 years old and I still don't find something better on YT.
Thanks for uploading! Charging is still a mystery for're, so this tute will take a long time for me get the best out of, but I finally made my first charge moves after watching this! Huzzah! On a PS3 BTW. Cheers!
Hey, I've been in a slump for a long time, trying to find the character that best suits me lol. I've just started playing SF and am originally a Mahvel kinda guy. Anywho, I was wondering if you'd like to train/spar with me sometime? (PSN)
@Steril707 Thank you so much. Its all worth it when someone appreciates your work :D, I've been maining guile since SF2 Champ edition. The thing different about guile is his 1 frame links, what people underestimate is that even if you are not perfect at pulling off those links you can still be a pretty effective guile player. If you just strategize your game play a little,be a little patient ...u can really kick some major ass.. only weakness ive found with guile is his poor defense for crossups.
The timind is the same no matter how many frames of lag you have. As long as you get the timing right in between the button presses you will get the combo. The lag just makes them come out delayed.
@MagnusGoGo Hey thank you so much for pointing that out :/ i guess i was too sleepy when i edited it... well in my opinion FADC into cr HK is worth it because once the character is knocked down guile has alot of option select, grab, cross up , target combo...or Guile can simply bait a wakeup move...besides that, the only FADC combos guile has are in the corner...and those are worth it because some of them cause insane damage.
@Mr8t24u when you are playing charge character you have to get your hands used to holding charge...that is ALWAYS charge back down ...yes! even when you jump. It will take some time getting used to but i can assure you ud be fluently executing moves in just a day or two worth of practice...the only challenge playing guile IMO is mastering his 1 frame links...but dont worry, even if you dont get his 1 frame links down the first time, guile is not a very combo intensive character.
guile's so godlike he's a great character i wanted to make him my alternate so i can have a projectile character in my pocket he's so beast everybody plays ryu ken sagat akuma i wanted to be different like my man kevin landon this helped further the knowledge i have with guile
Awesome tutorial... Thanks a lot. Been maining Guile for almost 20 years now, but somehow I don't get the hang of (S)SF4(AE)... ;) well, I'll keep practicing..
@agreygod try dashing forward if you have enough time...or try to anticipate a grab and tech it, use the standing high punch to push the opponent back.... regrettably...Guile is worst at cross up defense.
@MagnusGoGo I also gave it some more thought...and i think yeah they are worth it...id personally milk damage outta every combo i can...i dont zone much unless its a mirror match...then ur right i would need all the ex sonicbooms i could get.
Cool guide. :) But in your combo notation, you seem to always forget to add in the Cr.LP before the Cr.MP. xD You do Cr.LK>Cr.LP>Cr.MP, but the text says: Cr.LK>Cr.MP. Also, do you think FADC combos are really worth it with Guile unless you're going in for the finish? I mean, Guile can hardly do that much damage with them, and I think he needs his EX. SB more for zoning... Especially in AE since he can't build meter as fast.
hi. what are some things to do to avoid crossups for guile. i.e ken crosses guile up allll day long. i do well but once i get knocked down his wakeup defence kills my ass. what do pros do? please help me.
@emran4ever Also, the best advise i can give you is to learn how to maintain space between you and your opponent....this will go a long way when you become a better guile player. I grew off of SF2 basics...so just knowing your normal attacks and spacing goes a long way when playing guile... good luck! :D
@emran4ever Ah alright, thanks for letting me know. I'm obviously not a Guile expert btw, but I just like to keep tabs on some of the other characters in the interest of match-up knowledge. Haha, thanks again for you guide; it's a good insight into Guile. :D
I'm new to SF and can't play any charge characters. I think i constantly input something wrong because i don't get kicks and booms when i want them to come out. I play with xbox controller.
Just get used to pulling your stick diagonally(?) down away from the other player at the same moment you pull a move that forces you to release it. Thats the key to use the "unique" moves with charge chars'.
Don't worry, it just takes a lot of practice, especially charge characters. I started playing less than a year ago and have 400+ hours in, still learning new things every day. That's what makes it fun and addictive.
sit ur player down as if blocking - and charge back - this enable then just to do foward motion give it second or 2 tho also another method wehn in mid air jump back this charge a boom ready when ur land
Are you using a controller? Get used to charge buffering before you try the ultra 2. You should be charge buffering as Guile all the time. Instead of doing charge back - forward punch, do charge back - forward - back punch. Sonic boom still flies out, and you start charging before the animation even starts. After that, just add another forward, press 3 punches, and you'll throw out his bad ultra.
I miss these days no cap
Great video man, people like you who post these videos to help others contribute to the FGC. Thanks for the tips!

This stuff seems so simple but I so many things I forget to do when I play Guile from time to time. Nice to see a fellow PS3 player around.
Thanks for the tutorial been working on Guile for a while. It's tough though because I'm so used to Smash Bros Melee and Mortal Kombat 3.

Sure, my PSN is the same name. I'm not online much though.
Wow the playstyle analysis is REALLY well-done.
Great vid man ! Nice explanations !
This is the best guile tutorial for guile I've come across.
@Steril707 Thank you so much. Its all worth it when someone appreciates your work :D, I've been maining guile since SF2 Champ edition. New player here . thanks for that video . ive been practicing hope to be back here in couple of months
The timind is the same no matter how many frames of lag you have. As long as you get the timing right in between the button presses you will get the combo. The lag just makes them come out delayed.
Right after you jump, press back-down (or just back). It should be just one move, so do it really quick.

@agreygod try dashing forward if you have enough time...or try to anticipate a grab and tech it, use the standing high punch to push the opponent back.... regrettably...Guile is worst at cross up defense.

Awesome work ;)
Thanks for the tutorial, dude o/
Btw, is there any difference in his weak/medium/strong Sonic Booms? I mean, do they change anything in the combos?
+OmegaTaishu In combos, no. The only real difference is the travel speed and maybe the recovery.

I can never get the one frame links...

this is AWESOME
how to st.hp without losing charge?
Generally speaking how hard is it to pull off these one-frame links in an online environment, assuming a good connection?
how can u j.Hk,st.Hp,Ex Sonic Boom?! How can u charge the SBoom so fast?!
Ok somebody help me I can't do his second ultra for anything I keep trying and I just can't do it

awesome
dude you are awesome!!!
Thank you so much :)
Anyone know the song?
Can't do guiles flash kick cancel into ultra 2. Any tips?
Keep practising. It is just viewtiful, but the most difficult and bullshit damage in SF4.
Don't waste your time to master it.
@MagnusGoGo Thanks :D
how do I deal with grapplers? abel destroys me
Stay away from Grabblers. Mid range attack to annoy them.
@xboxsteven THANK you so much :)
nice vid.
@xSonicFlashx Thanks bruv...yours would be much much better :)
