  • ALTERNATIVE REFRIGERANTS FOR AFRICA
On Saturday 21st May an international webinar, delivered by U-3ARC and AREA, saw the participation of few of the main refrigeration companies worldwide, with the aim of bringing attention to the use of natural refrigerants in Africa.
U-3ARC and its European counterpart AREA organized this free, online training event for the firsttime in the refrigeration history, for the benefit of 500 African refrigeration Technicians who had theopportunity to attend.
It was surely a great chance for raising general awareness on the safety challenges set by the use of the new refrigerants. It was therefore important for everyone to pay attention to any installation and
servicing operation of air conditioners and refrigeration equipment which contain these gases, to avoid the risk of fire and explosion, usually caused by improper installations. The refrigeration sector must play a prominent role in the socio-economic development of the African continent, and its main players - grouped within U-3ARC - are working relentlessly to raise public awareness on the issue, still not enough considered in a continent where 70% of perishable food production goes to waste, making therefore useless the efforts of 80% of its population. The time has come for refrigeration to be on the political agenda of any African leader interested in the socio-economic development of their country.
The webinar was delivered in English language and translated simultaneously into Arabic, French and Portuguese. In addition to AREA and U-3ARC, other Associations that have always been involved in the sector (such as SOSIAD from Turkey and APIRAC (with Jose Ribeiro) from Portugal participated.
Centro Studi Galileo was strongly involved: in addition to its CEO Marco Buoni being an active speaker, three of CSG's Expert Trainers were among the Speakers, namely Marino Bassi, Kivanc Aslantas and Madi Sakandé, the latter further being the promoter and main coordinator of the
    event.
The webinar was a wide success, counting on the participation of almost 500 users worldwide. In particular, the webinar recorded a massive presence of African technicians: three countries in particular stand out from the total, with 57 experts from Morocco, 48 from Mali and 34 from Zambia.
