    20 September 2024
    Duration: 75 minutes
    Format: VIRTUAL SIDE EVENT
Organizers: Forus with the participation of the Pakistani government and key civil society organizations and Forus members, including ADA, Concord, Plataforma ONGD, NNNGO, Bond, Lithuania NGO Platform, Cooperation Canada, PIANGO, JANIC, La Coordinadora, KCOC, UNNGOF, Coordination Sud, VANI, Vitalis Meja, Co-facilitator of the workstream on international development cooperation for the FfD Mechanism and Eurodad.
    Background:
As global challenges intensify, particularly in the Global South, the need to redefine and improve the quality of Official Development Assistance (ODA) has never been more critical. While the long-standing 0.7% GNI target for ODA remains an important benchmark, there is increasing recognition that the definition, quality, and coherence of ODA must evolve to better meet the needs of recipient countries and communities.
This event brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss the current state of ODA, propose a redefinition that shifts the power towards recipient countries and communities, and explore ways to improve the quality and coherence of ODA, particularly in the context of global challenges such as climate change, peace and security, and sustainable development.
