Yes, I believe the guitar sound is the Native Instruments plug-in. And I agree that it's fabulous.
Edited to Add: I don't know if you watched Geoff's outro in your original reaction. But in case you didn't (It looks like most people didn't), I thought I'd pur his closing message here (for posterity): "Hey, y'all. I should mention that the train tracks I was walking down were *not in use* so Please, please, please don't go walking down any train tracks near you. Trains are big and strong. And you are soft and squishy."

Sorry to hear about the ordeal with the reaction part. You still managed to create a 54 min analysis vid, and I'm really glad you enjoyed it so much! 😍
We need to watch Geoff's videos multiple times to catch some of the delightful details. He's the best wizard!!
I just interrupted watching your video to go to Geoff's premier of Folsom Prison Blues, which is awesome, btw! I hope you react to it soon! 🔥

Your analysis is always the main part for me to keep coming back to your videos. And the thing I love about Geoff and VoicePlay is their creative minds to cover a song and spin it to where I'd never thought it can go. Just love it!!

Loved the analysis even without the reaction. You sure seemed to be enjoying this one! Sorry about the lost footage, like you said it happens to everybody eventually, hopefully this will be your only one.

Glitches happen! Just sad that it had to happen on one you seemed so excited about. Fingers crossed for this being the only time it happens, but I'm grateful we have the analysis still!

Great reaction, thank you very much. I so enjoy the beautiful chords Geoff incorporates into his productions!

  • @sarahborzelli_Castellineicieli

Oh wow David! I don't miss your reaction part in here because your analysis still contains such a genuine reaction! I love how you're geeking out over a gate and pretty much everything - but I can totally relate because even if I don't have the musical knowledge I'm still flipping out on all the wonderful sounding chords and so interesting choices in the arrangement! Of course you've been distracted by Geoff HA!

Well, we got an analysis out of it.
Here is todays Carina adding in the comment that was written yesterday which couldn't be posted then.:
Geoff said he tried to learn guitar earlier in life, but did not succeed. Still he obviously learnt enough chords to seem to be playing here.
He really tweeks his virtual instruments to make them sound as he wants them to. I might recollect wrongly, but I believe it was at the premiere of Rains of Castemere that he said he had problems with the string instruments up to the very end, which made some of the audience to impressed believe he actually played them 😅.
As for the 4 Geoffs ,I love to imagine that the wandering 5th is Daryl!
The very same gate as in Country Roads, but shot the other direction.
Layne who helped with filming suggested they shot at a live track which Geoff refused. Instead he and Kathy sought out another closed rail.Inspiring the little warning, at the end, I believe.
He wrote the new bridge to the song, which is something he has started to do lately.
    Thanks for another nice reaction.
Edited to put in a link to Geoff explaining:ua-cam.com/users/shortsfBICZRMNPJU?si=TRuwidGRzPfwA6ij

Great analysis as usual, David! No worries about the gremlins eating the initial reaction portion--it is a fun, enjoyable part of your videos, but the main feature of your videos is your wonderful analysis. I'm sure it was very frustrating for you, but the final product still turned out great!

I learn sooooo much from you every single time i watch you. Not only do you pointout things in the video/sound that i missed despite watching/listening many many times on my own..... but also i learn so much about SO MANY other random things. Even outside of music theory you provide so much cool insight and info. You are a treasure

Yes, when Geoff does a video where the gramophone might fit in, he will use it. If it doesn't make sense to use it, he won't. It's a nice little easter egg for us to look for every time he drops a new video, to see if he used it this time. It's been a while since we've seen it, he hasn't gotten to use it at all in 2023 so far. Hopefully he can find a use for it again some time soon 🥰🥰

I watched to nearly the end before you took it down yesterday. I missed your first reaction, but understand completely. Stuff happens.
I've heard a few versions of this song and really did not care for it much. I don't usually care for gloomy songs. I read the analysis from the Confessions of a Chord Junkie shortly after Geoff released this. Loved her analysis.
The reason that I particularly love this arrangement is because he managed to take a very melancholy piece and made it hopeful. The way he changed the rhythm, moving it forward, the inscription on the back of the photograph "On God's Golden Shore", and the bouquet of baby's breath that he carried throughout. Oh, my heart, vagabond Geoff never stopped loving whatever/whomever he left behind.
You know he has a new one coming out at noon today, right?

Indeed. "Take me to the river; let me wash my sins away." is not only a melody bridge, it's an idea bridge -- underlining the reason he's assured that Heaven is his ultimate destination.

Great analysis! Each time I hear this song (which, let me tell you, is *often*), that “God’s golden shore” strikes me the exact same way it struck you. My only complaint (if you can even call it that) about this song.

Jeoph, Geoff, Goff, and Jeff left to right. Then Darryl on the tracks. Sorry about the tech issues. A protected backup of the raw footage is a good thing to have. You’re almost at 2K subs. Congratulations. ❤❤you do need to do his Sound of Silence.

On the discord we noticed/discussed a similar thing to the 'God's golden shore' moment. Earlier in the song he says "borned an raised' and then the echo says 'born and raised' much more clearly.
Geoff does play the guitar (he would say badly), but used the Native Instruments plug in for this. He actually has a short demonstrating, specifically cause people kept asking this same question after this song came out. Now that you've seen this, you can check it out 😁 (He actually does the 'borned an raised thing' in the short too)

Someone already mentioned that this is the second place they chose to film the tracks. I’m going to add that it’s because Layne is insane. (“ But you have at least a minute or so to get off the tracks once the light starts flashing.”🤯😂) It was the commute line and they were filming it around 5 o’clock!
The story about the property with the train was very interesting. They had removed all the tracks because they were getting rid of that line but forgot to move the locomotive first so it’s been sitting there for about 40 years. There was a depot, or at least what’s left of one, but this train is just sitting there in the grass😂😂.
I had heard this song and never cared for it.’s melancholy. Home Free did a great job with it, but I am not a fan of twang. So while I can appreciate their talent and artistry it’s not something I listen to.
This reminded me of the old folk songs that I loved growing up (because I’m really old). And I agree with others that this seems hopeful.
When the dust bowl wiped out my grandparents’ farm in North Dakota, my dad hopped a train from North Dakota to San Francisco at the age of 13 to find work so he could bring the rest of family out. (My grandfather went to work in the coal mines for the the bulk of the money, but Dad was “The man of the house, and there was no future in ND). As a result, I’ve always loved the old traveling songs so this one was a special treat.

Sorry ,couldn'dt quite make out what you were saying about the guitar sound but Geoff has explained that he is playing but on his keyboard with plugins. He just sets up the sound of guitar then plays the chord or note on the keyboard. He once said that he spends hours just choosing exactly the right instrument sound he wants. He does that on all his videos, to the best of my knowledge. He has clearly got better at runs as he did say that in Tennessee Whisky he couldn't do it all in one. It's not his thing. (Eli of course is the master of riffs and runs, and their new guest Anthony is absolutely brilliant at them. As is DeeJay.)

Afterthought - btw the guitar technique you're referring to with use of the palm of the strumming hand to deaden the strings is called palm muting. Otherwise, I believe it's just muting.
