Thanks. I had saved the garlic and some onion bags(not plastic, the ones checkered air space inbetween)but knew if one rotted I would have trouble. This solves that problem. Love your site and much thanks. Dona
Last year, I stored my onions without really cleaning them well; well, never again! I lost quite a few to rot; the bacteria from the dirt still clinging to them made them turn. This year, I've hosed the heck out of them (with our agricultural-grade water) and I'm much happier with the result. Then again, I have a cold-cellar and pretty much ideal conditions to store all my produce. Thanks for the vids, keep 'em coming!
Hey, Katz. Thanks for showing how to prepare and store onions using clean, old panty hose. If you don't have panty hose, you can use regular stockings or "knee hi's;" for the guys, they are just the stockings with a stretchy top without the panty part, and they go up to the knees. I love watching your videos. I try to check back once every couple of months in case I see a video I find useful. They're still interesting to watch because you can share your smart tips with others who CAN use the info.
I think that's an excellent deal! The canisters are great for storing dry goods for daily use (cereal, rice, etc) and I've seen the large ones go for as much as $25 EACH. The jar sealers go for $10-12 each, and the rolls of bags are between $9-14. You will find endless uses for it. Jump on it!
Hi! :) my grandma used to tie the onions just like a loci of hair and hang it in the kitchen in a dyr place. Your idea is more modern I guess. Thanks :)
How funny - I just did this for the first time this year - "been meaning to try it" for a long time. I left my onions out on a shelf to cure for a lot longer and lost some - but better there than inside my storage room. Didn't even think to use it for the stiff neck garlic that can't be braided - but I'll use it now. have to buy nylons now that people don't wear there anymore!!! lol
Love the idea but I haven't worn hose in I can't remember how long lol I guess picking some up at the dollar store would be a good idea. Thanks for the tips!
I tie them in about four foot chains with hay string and hang them by their top leaves in the hot dry green house with a fan for a few days until the leaves dry, then transfer the chains into a food storage room in my house where its cooler. I hang them at the ends of the shelving racks so that they aren't touching each other to keep air flow around them.
I store onions in garage but sometimes a rotten spot spreads. This is a great idea. I buy my onions in bulk and I have too many old pairs of PH. Thanks.
Katzcradul. I found a excellent condition foodsaver v835 with 1. 6Q canister 3 Clear 80 oz can 2 tinted 80oz can 1 50oz can 2 25oz can extra 80oz lid extra 5ooz lid 1pt jar sealer 1qt jar sealer 2 vac hoses 1 11" bags 1 8" bags 1 qt bag 1 gal bag all for 105.00 do you think I need all of this and is the price fair? 30.00 of the price is for shipping for 2 separate boxes. Thanks in advance for input
Deana Wade buy a garbage can pour a layer of sand in it then a layer of unblemished potatoes make sure that they don't touch. pour more sand over potatoes add another layer of potatoes. Repeat as necessary top with sand and cover with lid store in cool area (garage). The sand should be slightly damp not wet. You can use sawdust too, slightly damp.
Gosh, I haven't seen hose since my ex-wife used to hang hers to dry from the tops of the doorframes. Gave me nightmares, all those legs hanging, lol. Anyway, when you say you can use this for garlic, do you mean the whole head, or individual cloves?
Hi Katzcrdul, it's me ava google had me change my name. but what I need to ask, is how many quartz of corn on the cob can I get into 1 quart after drying on dehydrator? I forgot what you said. thank you much.
You know those scrunchy things that you use in the shower with the liquid body wash? That is what I use to store onions. After you have those things for a while they eventually fall apart and they are actually a mesh tube about 10 feet long that work perfect for this and they breathe a little better than the panty hose.
That answered my question before I could ask it, lol, what could you use instead of pantyhose (that would be cheap) if you don't usually buy pantyhose. Thanks!
I stored some onions and garlic this way and they all rotted from the inside...they looked fine but disintegrated and essentially were hollow... any ideas? They were in my basement storeroom in the dark. Thanks
I would have to go price out all those items individually at walmart(dot)com to give you a 'for sure' answer...and I just don't have time to do that, but you could check it out. Off the top of my head, that sounds like a fair price.
Love this, but no longer have any used pantyhose. Is there any other material you can use for this? Do you perhaps have a cheap source for pantyhose? I like to use it to tie up tomatoes, also, and my supply is about gone. :(
hhmmmm, I'm not Joe Namath and I don't wear pantyhose. I have to come up with something else! thanks for the vid! [for those old enough to remember, Joe Namath advertised pantyhose once saying "If these can make my legs look good..."]
I was just thinking that you could use twisties (for garbage bags) instead of tying knots, hang them the opposite way, then you can re-use the pantyhose. Thanks.
If you buy bags often, for any reason, like small bathrokm garbage bags, they come with usually 2 rows of breadties. Why would you need bread ties on your bathroom garbage bag? Use the bread ties for seperating your onions so you can reuse the panty hoseb for the same purpose, next time. Hope this helps someone out there.
What a great idea. I have lost onions before using the open mesh bags from the store and hanging them up. Will keep this in mind.
Thanks Bev

and you can use them as a weapon if someone breaks in. Good info. Thank you for posting.
Katz thank you so much. I have been in an onion delema...When to pick and how to store. You're a gem! Love your vids.
Thanks. I have trouble storing even my store bought ones. This will help a lot.
What a great idea. So efficient and easy. Thanks to you and prepperA.
That is a great way to do that. I plan on growing onions next year.
You're doing everything right...they just don't last as long as we'd like. I dehydrate most of mine.
New stay at home dad again this time I am learning to cook, and save money thanks for the tip

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS! Thank you. Been really missing your videos!
Oh...good idea! The dollar stores just aren't on my radar and wouldn't have occurred to me. Thanks!

Hello I've been watching you for quite sometime and I love your ideas this one it great I'm doing it today!
Thanks - you always show me something new. from Knoxville.
Hey Kat, thx for the vid. Quick question. How long will the Onions last for if kept as you mention in the video? Just curious. Thx!
Thank you for sharing!! Terrific idea as I use A LOT of onions.
Katz has a great video on this.
TY for sharing!
I'm so glad. I hope you find something useful. Thanks.
great, thanks Katz. I was just wondering this the other day! question answered... thanks again.
Hi! :) my grandma used to tie the onions just like a loci of hair and hang it in the kitchen in a dyr place. Your idea is more modern I guess. Thanks :)
Thanks so much for this video! I have a TON of onions ready to harvest in the garden and wasn't sure what to do with them :)
I've used those before as well. They work great.
What a wonderful idea!
Love, love, love this! Thanks.
Very neat...You make me want to garden lol
I think I will grow onions next year and try this!
Great idea, where do u find the onion seed for next season gardening?
Smart idea. I like that.

Thank u all so much for sharing.
Those onion sacks are almost as l
ong as Prepper A, is tall:) Blessings !
What a great idea, will this work with garlic?
Nice video. Good info. Now all I gotta do is come up with some hose. LOL
What a great idea, can you use this with garlic?
WOW that's a great idea cause I love onions and I buy a lot, potatoes too lol
Love the idea but I haven't worn hose in I can't remember how long lol I guess picking some up at the dollar store would be a good idea. Thanks for the tips!

Hi Kat! So how long will these onions stay fresh if you store them this way??
Great idea! Thanks for sharing :)
Using pantyhose is a great tip. Thanks!
I store onions in garage but sometimes a rotten spot spreads. This is a great idea. I buy my onions in bulk and I have too many old pairs of PH. Thanks.
Just found your channel and of course I had to sub LOL.
That's a good idea
thank you!
It's worth a try...at least it would keep them from touching each other.
Sometimes months if the area is cool and fairly low humidity.
Very nice.
thank you, I like this one very much

I LOVE THIS IDEA. Know how do I store potatoes
How long do they keep this stored this way?
WOW!! who would have thunk?? I'm going to try this and I will get back....
eeeuuuwww that's really a shame! Hope Katz can tell us why that occurred!
Gosh, I haven't seen hose since my ex-wife used to hang hers to dry from the tops of the doorframes. Gave me nightmares, all those legs hanging, lol. Anyway, when you say you can use this for garlic, do you mean the whole head, or individual cloves?

And that's why I do this...hoping that someone will be inspired to try something new. Thanks for leaving a comment.
That answered my question before I could ask it, lol, what could you use instead of pantyhose (that would be cheap) if you don't usually buy pantyhose. Thanks!
You should do a video showing us your pantry but in an anonymous way of course.
I stored some onions and garlic this way and they all rotted from the inside...they looked fine but disintegrated and essentially were hollow... any ideas? They were in my basement storeroom in the dark. Thanks
Great idea thanks for sharing.. God Bless..
I don't know what I said either! LOL At least 2...and probably more like 3.

I bought a 25 lb bag of onions would I do the same to them?

Yes, you sure can.
and thank you
I wonder if you could use this same idea for potatoes
Sure, just be sure you hang them in a dark place.
Blessings ❤️
Does any one know what happened to Mrs . KATZCRADUL ? Did she pass away ? If anyone knows please answer . She hasn’t done a video in YEARS . GOD BLESS
I'm still kickin'! I've been busy living life...and my technical wizard went away to college. LOL 😆
Most of the dollar stores have cheap hose.
I was just thinking that you could use twisties (for garbage bags) instead of tying knots, hang them the opposite way, then you can re-use the pantyhose. Thanks.
Could you do the onion thing? Panty hose I mean.
Hope this helps someone out there.
can't u just store'm on a wire rack? on liyre
You sure could, but that would take up room I don't have. Hanging them saves me so much space.
Walgreens if you have one has panty hose for 59-69 cents.
Mskestrela1 thanks so much I'm going in wish me luck!
