  • This not so brief introduction will discuss the reasons why it is so important to properly understand and adhere to the guidance that is set forth by the FAA. Known as the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 14, we will specifically dive into parts 1, 61, 91, and NTSB part 830.

    Sorry if this is a stupid question but this playlist skips around within his teachings correct? The patron shows all the videos in order for the 8 week course right?

      Just an update, I just called and also checked their website, and they do have the book in stock. You may have looked at the first book on the page that is for 135 ops. But they have the 61/91 version ready to ship!

    Perhaps you can show me where this definition of cross country lies Todd. All the copies of the FAR Part 1 I can find go from "Critical Engine" to "Decision Altitude."

    What would you say if a fellow pilot wanted a copy of that quarter inch thick book pertaining to only airplane FARs...?

      I would say that would be a legit request! Although my explanation book is still in the works, I can send you the PDF file of all the fluff cut out. Would that interest you?

      @@ToddShellnuttCPC Also one more quick question for you Todd; in 61.183 (c) (2) is it stating that a flight instructor must hold an instrument rating or that they only need one if they are going for/are a CFII? It states after that they need "privileges on that person's pilot certificate that are appropriate to the flight instructor rating sought", which leads me to think you would not need one, but I just wanted to double check. Unfortunately, JetLaw's doesn't go into this requirement for just a normal CFI.

      @@robbiemckenzie5892 You absolutely need an instrument rating to hold a CFI certificate. There is no way around that. I will post the "Single Engine Regulations" in the description above. Please keep in mind that the PDF I post will not be an ongoing updated copy of the regulations and should not be used to replace the actual regulations found on the FAA's website. I hope you enjoy it, and let me know what you think.

    Regarding 61.93 (b) Authorization to perform certain solo flights and cross-country flights. Assuming my student has met all the solo requirements and has all the proper endorsements to fly solo here is my scenario (question). The student keeps their airplane at an airport less than 25 miles from the airport where I instruct. They would like to fly over to me and receive instruction instead of me driving to their airport. May I endorse them to make repeated solo cross country flights to my airport for instruction? The reason I ask is that I've heard yes and no.
    Here is the argument for no. Subpart (v) of this section, states "The purpose of the flight is to practice takeoffs and landings at that other airport." It doesn't say to receive instruction.
    The argument for yes lies in the very next part (2) Repeated specific solo cross-country flights that may be made to another airport that is with 50 nautical miles........ There is no mention for the purpose of practicing and takeoffs and landings only.
    What are your thoughts? I really appreciate the extremely informative videos you have.

      This would be the 61.93(b)(2) endorsement. You are correct by stating that the 61.93(b)(1) is less than 25nm and is only for the purpose of take off and landings. It is sometimes confusing to let the 25 and 50nm numbers confuse instructors. Just know that if you want your student go and practice TOL at another airport by themselves, it can't be more than 25nm away, and requires the (b)(1). If you want them to go back and forth to another airport as much as you/they want, then it has to be less than 50nm, and you only give the endorsement once (b)(2). Beyond 50, they would need a separate endorsement for every flight 61.93(c)(3). Do keep in mind that this is a direct answer for the question your posed; different answers may apply to a different scenarios.

    reg question for you (hopefully it gets answered): you- Todd- own your own C172. You come to me who has a commercial ASEL certificate and say I hear you have your commercial pilot cert and I want you to fly me from SNA to PHX for $500(I, the pilot, didnt hold out or anything). I agree to that. I do my due dilligence and look at all the maintence logs and there the only thing I do not see is a 100 hour inspection. everything else is good to go. Can I legally take this flight? I have heard mixed things on why I can or cannot take this flight. my answer is no because I the pilot is being compensated.

    • @ToddShellnuttCPC
      @ToddShellnuttCPC  10 місяців тому +2

      You can legally do this flight. You do not own the airplane. I do. The airplane is currently not for hire, but you are. So I, as the airplane owner, can get any appropriately rated pilot to fly me, and I can pay them. The airplane, being not for hire, would not require a 100-hour inspection, per the plain language read of the regs. I hope this helps.

      @@Tyleraviator99 A good start to this would be to read over AC 120-12. It has some great info in understanding what the FAA wants to see in these situations. If after reading that, you still need additional direction, let me know.
