Thank you for visiting the Choicemas "STOP THE CLOCK" Channel. I create content with hopes to inspire, motivate, educate, empower, and help others. A majority of my videos are Educational videos teaching the ins and outs of Safety and Securement, as well as the excitement of driving a 18 Wheeler Semi-Truck throughout the country. In addition, I have some inspirational, motivational commentary that I feel can help others. Recently I've opened up my page to Vlogs and Roadtrips with my wife and I that carry some humor and interest. I hope you can find videos you like, and if you do... give us a thumbs up and hit the subscribe button, as we sincerely appreciate the support and the amazing feedback we've received throughout the years. I started this channel knowing nothing at all and have come a very long way, and the journey has all been worth it. Many thanks to you all, God bless. -Choicemas
I think people forget that the FMCSA requirements are that the WLL of ALL straps or chains used on the load must be at least HALF the weight of the load being secured.
For example: a 50k lbs load would only require a total of 5 straps or 6/g70 chains. However; you would need to include linear rules also.
Why do you say that? Are drivers driving around with only half the WLL on their loads? That’s crazy. I recently did a video speaking to that exact point. DOT/FMSCA requirements are minimal. Using one’s head/brain is optimal! 🙏🏼💯👊🏼
I think it was this video that I talk about that.

@choicemas Some people think that for a 50k pound load, (for example), they count it as 5400 lbs per strap and think they need 10 straps to be "legal", when technically they'd only need 5, (to be legal), and I say "to be legal" because I always run 1 extra than needed. (Not counting for length).
1 G70 chain can hold 13200 lbs of cargo.
1 4 inch strap can hold 10800 lbs of cargo.
You got 6 chains @ 13200 each
And 2 straps @ 10800.
That's technically enough securment for 100,800. Lbs.. (Not counting for length).
Length you need 2 securements in the 1st 10 feet (if you dont have a bulkhead), and no more than 10 feet apart.
I've seen some crazy sht out there, like some drivers never even looked at the book
@@skyerambetter to be safe then sorry I'm over secure also.. ... At least the load don't fly the way from the trailer
And another one. Keep em coming you know we watchin
👊💯
hope you get by your home ok, be well brother. BTW, in one of your earlier vids, you fibbed. you said your aren't a teacher or nothing,,,fibber, you have taught me and many others a bunch, and not just about securement but about life and living,,,mind and spirit. pet milkshake for me,,pax
Heyyyy, what’s happening my friend. Many blessings and thank you’s. As always, you comments are well received and in good energy. I do fib time to time 🤦♂️
@@choicemas it's all good brother, enjoy your home time you deserve it.
Excellent master class for me. Appreciated.
Thank you brother!! I appreciate you!
Thank you
I did a load of steel recently, where my straps touched the steel on top and the sides, but not on the middle.
The middle stuff slid up and stopped at my bulkhead.
That’s the challenge, securing every stack, bundle, skid, pallet, and piece on the load so that those potential catastrophes don’t happen. Thank God for you bulkhead.
I wouldn't feel comfortable either with barely meeting the legal requirements. I mean, to me it's all about peace of mind... You can never over secure. But at the end of the day, you gotta be good with what YOU do. Maybe that's just how I was taught (at a certain company in Des Moines, IA)..
Nice video, bro. Making it happen.
I’m with you Jo. Apparently my math was wrong on his securement. (I’ll have to check that again.) Either way, myself personally, couldn’t have pulled off with only 6 5/16 chains. That’s just me though.
Great Video
Thanks bro learned a new way to run chains thanks again 👍🏾 my man
Peace EZ. Thanks man 🙏
This is a Master Driver who knows his shit
I don’t know about Master, but I do know my shit! 👊💯🙏
@@choicemas aye man more videos lets go driver
Bruh, those Loves Mudflaps Though!!
Peace. I know right!!! It’s cool. I’m sitting on something atm. Stay tuned.
Always great content. Quick question, I'm fairly new to flat bed and my trainer told me to always make the teardrops on the chains as small as possible but noticed yours were big. Does it really matter? Or was he blowing smoke
Hey CHOICEMAS happy holidays to you n your mob mate hope you all enjoy the break. Kind regards from your aussie brother.
Peace and Love to you and yours from across the water my friend. Always! 🙏💯
Hey dude im just starting out as an owner op and your videos have really helped me out on certain things. The beats in the background go good with it. What is the song at the beginning of the video called. Thanks keep em coming.
Nice man. Its funny how we check out loads. I find myself doing it a lot! I've seen some and be like, whats wrong with this dude! Tarps flapping, bungees hanging off, don't look safe! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Let me get away from this guy! 🤣🤣🤣 Be safe, bruh!
🏃🏼 🏃🏼 🏃🏼😂
@@choicemas 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Get a long rope tie a lug lut to one end tape up where you tied the rope put enough tape to where the hook on the chain fits tight around the tape and use the rope throw it over the load hook your chains up and drag it over the load..... save your back and falling off the trailer 🤘🤙
Miss being out there.
Sir yes sir, Indonesia trucker is here sir 🚛🏆💕
There he is! The one and only, straight out of Indonesia. When I come to Indonesia, will you show me around town?
@@choicemas with pleasure sir..
Americans love to go to Bali, check it out
Dope video yo 🔥🔥
What up Choice, T from Pittsburgh checkin in. I appreciate the video and info, I'm new to flatbed. Quick question any particular reason why you put the binders on top of the load? I didnt know that was an option since I was told to put them on the side to tighten them when checking the securement for slack.
Stop da clock
💯💯
👊💯
Looks like crescent city indy I believe can't remember the name of the mill but I been there before
With a load like that I would have wanted a bulkhead or a belly rap.
No more dunnage to build a bulkhead. Also the load was high and staggered. Bulkhead would help but wouldn’t stop the entire load. Belly wrap wouldn’t hurt but it would be useless on the front end of this load. Not sure you saw what the front of the load looked like.
5/16 chains are grade 70. 80. 100. and120
I'm a Aussie and I would chain down completely different but you need more chains to do it I run two chains under the steel first and hook one on each side then over the top and hook up to the same side you started at then tighten them both down this way you are pulling the whole load together and down a lot less chance of the steel ending up in a cab with you when some idiot makes you brake hard
Keep an eye out. I’m gonna do it. I love learning New ways to secure loads. I appreciate you leaving the comment and explaining. Any other suggestions you have for me let me know. Thanks for watching too!! Shout out to Australia 💯 .
Question... is there a name for this type of securement?
@@choicemas no name but that's how dad taught me I guess your choking the load so it can't move with one chain over the top the load can still move sideways this stops the sideways movement aswell but like I said you need twice as many chains to do the job
Why didn't you x chain to stop forward motion?
Because the front of the load was staggered significantly. An X Chain system wouldn’t have stopped forward motion. I lent of loads I have in this catalogue I show the X Chain System because it’s practical in regard to the load. Would you X strap 2x4 wooden planks? Not being a smart ass, just using the question as an example.
Dope shit
4700 WLL for 5/16 G7 but the math is easier at 4500 :). How in the world would you build a bulkhead to stop forward movement on such a heavy load? For securement with no bulkhead, you add one more chain to the one chain per ten feet formula?
Hey bro, are you ratxheting from the top to get them tighter by using your body weight?
Thx The Rookie
No just ratcheting the top because it’s easy to stand on the load and do it. Sometimes I’ll ratchet from the side. Depends on how I’m feeling really.
27,000 lbs of securement is good for £54,000 loan.
Sounded like the other truck did not have enough securement. Only half.🤔
They had enough, just not enough for my taste. They were completely legal.
Nope, he has 28,200(4700x6). Also, stop putting your hooks on the weakest part of the chain link( that little lip).
Noted, and thank you for the tip. I’m not sure if what you’re talking about when you say that “little lip” or the “weakest part of the chain.” All the hooks were hooked to the chain itself in this video. Please explain. Everything I’ve learned I’ve learned from others, so I don’t have any issues being corrected, advised, taught, etc. God bless.
@@choicemas Each chain link is a short piece of steel with the ends bent to face each other. Those ends are tied together with a band (I used the wrong terminology). Structurally, that's the weakest point on the chain. When you constantly hook there, it accelerates the deformity of the link to the point of breakage. A link that is too deformed is no different than a strap with a hole or cut in it to the DOT. The chain can still be used, but the deformed link must be in the excess. Not within the part of the chain that is used to secure the load.
Hopefully that clears thing up.
@@solitary_con4128 appreciate this... mechanically I can understand what you explaining. What I’m having trouble understanding is the “hook” when hooked to the chain “link” it bites the entire link. Let’s just say the hook didn’t cover/grab the entire link, when I put torque on it and tighten the chain the hook would shift anyway, no? In regard to deformed links, I am aware of that, but none of my links were deformed. I’ve done a good share of welding and understand what a link is and how it’s made. BELIEVE me I’m not trying to be difficult, I’m trying to fully understand how it is, that I might be hooking my hooks onto the weak link or weak part of a link. This way I can pass the information on to others.
@@solitary_con4128 let me take a close look at a chain and look for the “bands” and maybe that would give me a better idea of what you’re saying.
Are you talking about not hooking the chain on top of the load, but the side so it doesn't put pressure on the chain?
5/16 is 4700#s
Thank you, and Yeah I know, straps are 5,400 but I only count 5,000. The extra works in my favor.
You still doing leaSe purchase?
Peace Colt! You want to know something about lease purchase?
@@choicemas yessir. How’s it working out since you been doing it?
Got new phone lost all the contacts. Need your help been trying to get hold of you. This is mombassa(aka said) . Will try to find your email n keep in touch. Be safe
Shoot me the email brother. I’d text you, but obviously that wouldn’t work.
Dammit maannnn to hell with all that extra ass work I'm way too lazy for flat bed I'd have to be getting like $5,000 per week consistently to do that.
Yeah, when it comes to Flatbed, either you like it or you love it. You can easily make the same money driving Dry Van, Reefer, etc.
Great Video
