The first movie is an absolute gem. I'll never forget the first time I saw it. I was 10 years old and watched it at a friend's house. We stayed up all night pretending to be ninjas sneaking around the neighborhood, throwing rocks at windows, ringing doorbells and running off. Then snuck back in his house before the sun came up 😂 The good days.
Not wrong about Ninjas being everywhere, I swear thats why in the early 90s after taking a considerable amount of LSD I was chased by ninjas through Wigan park lmao
Steve James is such a hero. I used a pic of him giving a manly thumbs up as my desktop wallpaper for a good while. Just thinking about that pic increases my masculinity by a factor of 5. Damn, what an awesome dude.
I love AN 2. You could tune into it at any point and you're never more than five minutes away from a ninja fight. And that score kicks ass. As a young kid I didn't perceive the difference between B-movies and major films. So, I though of Michael Dudikoff as though he was in the same league Arnie, Sly, JCVD, etc... after all, there were *four* American Ninja movies! Whenever there's a question like, "why couldn't thry see him? Where did he come from?" The answer is obvious: NINJA MAGIC. I'm not even joking, thry low key have supernatural abilities in this series. Cannons other "Ninja Trilogy" with Sho Kosugi has no apparent continuity, but Ninja III: The Domination might be more up Josh's alley because that one gets truly crazy.
Additional fact: Avenging Force began production as a sequel to Invasion USA. Norris did something else instead, but they didn't bother to change the main character's name.
These were such video store staples I think there was a law that you had the rent the first three at least once or face a misdemeanor charge. They're cool enough, but no great shakes. And hey, Pat Morita may have never gotten that signature karate role, but he did marry Evelyn Guerrero, Donna from the Cheech and Chong flicks, quite a hottie, so not too shabby!
I love ninja media, but at the same time kinda hate the whole "it's martial arts, it's ninja" trope that the 80s brought us. We see echoes of it from time to time even now, thankfully it isn't to the degree it was then. I can't remember if it was one of the American Ninja movies, or another ninja film from the era, but I was watching a ninja movie with a group of friends when we were in our late teens, early twenties, hanging at one of their houses. One of them was actually a friend of one of the friends who always invited herself along to things and she was pretty annoying on top of it. Well, there was a scene where one guy gets stabbed during a fight, and there is a ridiculous, over the top amount of blood. The self-inviter freaked out, apparently blood wasn't her thing. So, next time she invited herself along when we were going to see a movie, I made sure we saw House Of 1000 Corpses. It was hilarious, turns out in addition to a blood/gore thing, she also was scared of clowns. She was so freaked out. She also stopped inviting herself to things as often. And I owe it all to a ninja movie.
I have a soft spot for the first one, nothing really special about it but I do enjoy it. The second one.. has the most memorable over the topness and stuff that doesn't make sense I guess. Just the super soldier ninjas as you said in the video... Just how were they super!? Did someone forget to write in the script they were going to be super but weren't yet? Like it was a threat? Just ugh.. Like Universal Soldier being taken out in a bar fight repeatedly. As for the rest in the series.. they didn't really stick out much to me so I can't really recall much specifically about them. Just meh.

I saw #4 in a theatre, when Dudikoff's character first appeared, the audience applauded. Ahh, good times.

The real reason the drug PSA's came out was so people stopped freaking out about the ninjas all over the world.
Happy birthday 🎂 💜 🐾 🎊 💐 🎉
I enjoy these films just haven't seen for a while 👍🍾
Love the first 2 movies
Yes thank you love the American ninja movie universe
I voted for the Enter The Ninja trilogy. I will just wait for that timeline. This was a fine appetizer.
Steve James is such a hero. I used a pic of him giving a manly thumbs up as my desktop wallpaper for a good while. Just thinking about that pic increases my masculinity by a factor of 5. Damn, what an awesome dude.
can you please do the best of the best timeline and the original kickboxer timeline next
Yeah, one of JCVD gems, although i always confuse them with the Bloodsport franchise.

Happy Birthday 🎈🎂🎈
You should do a mini timeline of the Ninja franchise by Scott Adkins composed by Ninja and Ninja: Shadow of a Tear.
Such awesome flicks.
No, you really shouldn’t
Loved these movies as a kid
the first one is a special movie or me as its one of my childhood faves
Happy Birtday 🎉
Fun fact : in France, Avenging Force with Steve James & Duddikof came as American Ninja 2
Additional fact: Avenging Force began production as a sequel to Invasion USA. Norris did something else instead, but they didn't bother to change the main character's name.
Happy birthday!😊
Saw this at a double feature drive in back in the day with my uncle and brothers. Fun times.
Happy Birthday!
07:05 That's Marjoe Gortner who was also in Starcrash.
We'll see him again in Mausoleum when The 80s Project gets to 1983.
And Food Of The Gods!
Dudikoff sounds like the literal translation of “puking” in another language.
Sounds like Dude I cough in english.
You questioning where ninjas are coming from is a fool's errand lol
I remember the first 3. They were pretty good.
Happy birthday homie much love
You forgot to include Beverly Hills Ninja
R.I.P. Steve James
“Where did that guy come from?”
Ninja Catapult.
Tell 'em, Sean-Joe!
Happy Birthday 🎂
Happy birthday.
Happy Birthday!
...Birth Week!
I remember the first three parts of four but they never really stuck out after part 2

I feel like this movie needs some kind of a ninja theme song...
"[Pat Morita] never played any other significant character."
Excuse me? Ohara!?!?!
Please tell me I'm not the only one who had NO IDEA that there was a 5th movie!
Happy birthday
American Ninja and Revenge of the Ninja were my favorite martial arts movies in the 80s. Didn't care much for the sequels.
You're right, no serious action film will feauture a bowling pin sound effect in the middle of a fight scene.. ahem.. Matrix Reloaded.
These movies were kinda of fun in the 90s late 80s
KEN GAMPU from KAKA with James Ryan???

I was today years old when I found out American Samurai is not part of the actual American Ninja series.
😢
I will now diminish and go into the West.
My o my so many LOL's 😆

This is a guilty pleasure just like Iron Eagle not a great franchise but really fun to watch
The first two were great fun but they got a bit boring after that
Ninjas, Quicksand and guys with machetes/butcher knives.
But think about all of the horrible things that science has created. Mustard gas, the atom bomb, Facebook, the Kardashians
If he changed his name, then he would have different background so ppl wouldn’t know him
We are not ninja!!!
Number 2 is my favorite
I DON'T DRINK BUD LIGHT ANYMORE.
