    Hello Friend.
    I have a question
    Could it be possible to play a flamenco chord or melody that way?

      Hi there! I’m not very well versed in flamenco playing style, but I would think you could.. the trick would be to really get comfortable with your chord voicings so that you could loosen your wrist up quite a bit which will carry over into your thumb picking strokes. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any luck with it, I’d be curious to know.

    Hey, I've got one arm and I've been wanting to learn guitar for years, thanks to your vids I've been making some progress for the first time! I'm wondering what kind of thumb pick you're using that lets you strum up? I have no issues strumming down but when I try strumming up with the pick I can't get a smooth sound. Is it the pick or a technique thing? I've messed around with it but haven't found anything that works.

      Hey again! (I’m catching up on comments today) I use: Dunlop Ultex Thumbpicks! They have a “stickiness” to them that I love! *Note at the time of this video I hadn’t discovered them yet.. but after trying tons of different ones over the first 15+ years of playing they are all that I use now.

      @@OneHandedGuitarHey! Thanks for the recommendation but I still seem to struggle with strumming up on a chord when using that, and a lot of other thumb picks. It gets stuck on the way up, is this a thumb pick issue or a technique problem you think?

      @@morty4815162342 Hey there.. hmm.. that's interesting! I'm leaning towards a technique type of thing based on this comment.. but am trying to play out how this could be in my mind and I can't quite make sense of it.. I will tell you that wrist position could be something to experiment with a bit.. that may be what's going on. It could also be the "action" of your guitar strings. You probably already know this.. but just in case you don't: action refers to how high up off the fretboard the strings are suspended. *Note I prefer my action to be as low as it will go. Hope this helps! Let me know either way and we'll troubleshoot some more to get you strumming!

    • @morty4815162342
      @morty4815162342 Рік тому

      @@OneHandedGuitar Hear you on the action, I actually bought a new guitar a couple months back specifically to address the action and it's also very low. Think you're right about it being a technique issue, I'll definitely experiment with changing up wrist position. Thanks for the help!

      Hi Celeste, I'm so glad to hear that your going to give playing another shot! I've heard it said that if the music is in you it will find a way to come out! Let your music be heard! I believe that with some determination you can totally play the guitar! Please let me know if you have any questions along the way! I'm happy to help!
      Thanks, -Dirk

      Thanks Man! Really appreciate that! I've been practicing a lot and trying to focus on the intricacies of technique. I feel that's very important with an alternate way of playing.

    • @dhill05
      @dhill05 7 років тому +1

      Hell yeah. I play ambidextrously and know very well how important technique is lol. Also I've always wondered what it would be like to only use one hand while playing. I have tried it a couple of times myself but haven't really gotten that into it. Fretting and picking with both hands is just what feels comfortable to me.

    • @OneHandedGuitar
      @OneHandedGuitar  7 років тому

      Wow an ambidextrous guitar player! Thats pretty impressive man! I thought that was just an effect you did in post-processing on your videos, I didn't realize that you were playing both! Pretty sweet! Very nicely done!

      Thanks man. Appreciate it. If you want you can subscribe to see more stuff. I have plans to release material in 2018. And to be honest, I am also impressed with your playing style. Since your picking hand is the same as your fretting hand, you have to compensate. And I think you do that very well.
      It would honestly be cool if you started making lessons or something to show off how you play a bit more. I like to be as dexterous as possible and learning to pick and fret with one hand would really open up a lot of doors. This is good stuff right here, lol.
