As far as my knowledge physical gold in the form of coins and biscuits are not allowed for pledge for gold loan. We have to convert it into some ornament.
Similarly 24 karat is not allowed for pledging. Don't know the logic behind it as 18 and 20karat is also allowed for pledge.

Demat account is not mandatory for sovereign gold bond, we can purchase it through savings bank account as well. You missed to mention the 50 rupees discount per gram for sovereign gold bond if buy through online at the issue time(not applicable while buying from secondary market).

Asking a question that was not covered here.
Why does everyone prefer the primary market more than the secondary one, even though the secondary market provides way less price per gram. For example the last series IX was issued for INR 4736 (including 50 discount), but if we check the SGBs in market there are series V,VI, etc from last financial year being sold for prices less that 4736.

Just one doubt, lets say if i buy SGB from Demat accnt then will this 8 year thing still be valid ? and also when ever i required can i sell my SGB too
It will be matured and automatically credited back to your account after 8years. YOu can buy or sell it freely in stock market. Only thing is that capital gains tax is applicable if you sell it earlier.
