- In this video I travel to the Redwoods in Northern California to photograph rhododendrons in bloom. My hope is to get the one thing that makes every woodland photo even better. Fog.

Absolutely gorgeous photographers, all of them.
Great last image - well worth the trip and capturing the blend of all that beauty.
I was just there. The Rhododendrons were in full bloom at the Lady Bird Johnson trail. I didn't have any luck with fog either. Beautiful sunny weather for the whole week.
A little farther North is Columbia River and Kite Festival in Long Beach, WA. FUN TO SHOOT.
Wow! Epic photos and video. I mean really epic.
Man I miss the Redwoods...and you know, just trees in general. And water, I really miss water too. Beautiful video.
Yeah trees are nice. Haha. Man those things are huge.
I’d love the chance to visit and experience the Redwoods. We have a couple of plantations here but nothing compared to a native forest. Really enjoyed coming along for the trip with you.
Loved this video! Awesome images too.
Awesome photos! I will be heading to Oregon and Washington in few weeks!
Wow awesome conditions guys and some beautiful images 😀✌️
Thanks buddy!
Great video. Missed you side kick!
Oh Baby! You nailed that fog shot. Just killer Mike. Hitting all three areas that you need for a great shot. Just my opinion but I want interesting subject matter, (big ass trees and fog), beautiful light, and compelling composition. Print that one real big. great video as well.
Thanks Robert!
It's a really beautiful
Thanks Sam!
Great video Mike 👍
Fog so hard!!
So beautiful Mike. I hope the Sequoia make it through those fires in Yosemite..such a treasure to us. Another great video thank you…..love the Sox cap❤️😊
That was such a lovely video and the photos were just beautiful. I love the Crescent City area and if it wasn’t so far from a major airport I would move there. Funny story, I was hiking part of the Boy Scout Trail and I often turn around to see where I’ve been because the view is always different. Well at one point I turned around and I saw a bear. I was terrified, froze in place and tried to figure out what to do (I was alone). Do I scream? Wave my arms? Run? I noticed the bear didn’t move either so I took a picture and zoomed in. Turns out it was a burl on a tree that looked exactly like a bear’s head :-D
Funny how a little water vapor makes such a big photographic difference. 👍
Oh yeah!
Gorgeous! Your patience pays off.
Thanks Mitzi!
Some great images! Thanks for taking us along!
South West Scotland - late May, early June if you want rhododendrons - they knock the spots off these displays
What a beautiful location, thanks for sharing ..... come on fog 👍😂 What you really need is on of those Jumpspeeders 😝
Haha I’d break my neck like those stormtroopers!
I am so anxious to travel! I'm getting a settlement and I've only been doing photography for about a year but really getting into it these last 6 months...I'm going upt he west coast from phoenix. i'm reeiving a settlement and just going to travel as long as possible! Going to take all the pics I can and grow my channel, maybe my business, not sure w/the economy the way it is. While everything is so unstable I just want to go and travel...just in case things get worse...beautiful pics and...second lunch? What are you...a hobbit? hahaha!
really pretty area Mike. I need to get there some day soon. Thanks for sharing. All the best to you and Chris.
Thanks buddy!! Chris says hello!
My dog and I just got back from a road trip from up there! Unfortunately he's not allowed on the trails but we still got some awesome photos from the roadside (and maybe maybe a few feet off the road 😉) gotta work with what I have, they still came out great 👍 we also visited Crater Lake NP and Lassen NP. 1 week trip. (Same situation, no doggies on the trails) again. Still got some pretty nice shots 👌 I was happy just to go out and see stuff I've never seen before and photograph it 🙂 love your video btw. I wanna go back already. It was beautiful.
It's really interesting to see how large the redwoods are compared to us. I'm glad the fog came in briefly to where you were able to get some awesome photos!
Thanks so much Scott!
Always look forward to your videos. Huge fan of your photography. I was at that location 3 years ago. I will be there in a few weeks on my way to the Oregon coast. Happy that you got the fog. Cheers. Continue making these awesome videos.
Thank you!
Nice shots Mike love that fog.
Thanks Bill!
Hey Mike. Nice running into you in one of the best places on Earth! We timed the rhodies pretty well, not so much the fog. I was there 3 days and had about 2hrs of it.
Hey Bill! It was great to meet you. Yeah I only got fog the one day, but man what a beautiful place!
Hi Mike, WOW, what a woodland! Honestly, I'm at least a tiny bit jealous :) Ferns, mosses, interesting textures on the barks, Chewbacca :-) No really, there is everything there a woodland photographer's heart could wish. And you got out some fantastic images. Great video, buddy!
Nice greetings,
Christian
Thank you so much Christian! Definitely a special place, and I’m pretty sure I heard a wookie call when I was walking around.
Great video Mike. I’ve added this location to the short getaways.
Thank you Jackie!
I just shot in that area for the last 4 days and the fog is so hit or miss. We had great foggy conditions for the first few mornings then it petered out. Last year we didn't get a lick of fog until the last day when we were getting ready to leave. Great video!
Thanks man!
Fabulous shots! I'm in Vancouver, BC and tried shooting our Rhodo's earlier in June - but didn't get your awesome conditions. Love your videos Mike!
Thanks Hugh!
Hi Mike, I am stumped a bit. So I’ve had a couple waterfalls that are down in a bowl basically. Towards end of day so sun is down and waterfall is turning out great except on each side where there is no water just foliage and rocks where it is shaded, basically all day sides are in the shade. The falls itself is tack sharp but the shaded sides are not, they are soft. Even when exposing to the right and bringing up the shadows in post. What would be my best option to help this in camera?
Canon 5DSr / EF 16-35 f/4 IS USM.
Another place on my growing list of places to visit. I think I liked the seascapes best. Was that at Point St. George? That area looks epic on Google Earth.
Thanks John, that was Crescent City beach.
Just catching up on Vids Mike and realised I hadn't watched this one. Rhodies are what we commonly call them in UK and in some places like Exmoor they are actively being cleared because they shade out native species and grow so fast they block paths. Almost a weed! Disappointed you didn't capture some of the Ewoks on camera!🤣🤣 Hope all is well with you and Chris. Summer hibernation?
Thanks Steve!!! Yeah every now and then we just take a break for a month or 2. We’re still here and kicking! Chasing some storms this week so maybe another video soon. Cheers!
