So 3 years ago we stop in Lebanon Oregon to catch the Sprint car races on my (and my Fiancé's) birthday weekend. We knew Kyle's team (#57) would be racing and it was my first Sprint car race live. Just as she was asking me, "I wonder who will be driving Kyle's car tonight", the Announcer came on and said "and driving the #57, Kyle Larson!". We lost our minds. Kyle is HER driver in NASCAR (I'm a Chase Elliot fan but Kyle is my alternate and her alt is Chase). He placed well but didn't win that night. We headed over to the pits after the race and Kyle stood for over an hour politely and graciously signing autographs. She was so excited she didn't bring anything to sign, so he signed her purse, the look on his face was priceless but he went with it. It's still her favorite purse to this day and now our favorite drivers are on the same team! I'm a Kyle fan for life after that. So good to have you back Kyle. If anyone deserved a second chance, it's you.

@@MrDannyboyhall I agree in my opinion what he did was like someone walking next to a cliff then accidentally falling in it’s just for Larson’s dumbass mistake he gets a second chance.
@@MrDannyboyhall he had one slip of the tongue when he thought he was disconnected from the internet, every single one of us say stupid things to our friends and family were comfortable with, all humans say and do morbid things, its what makes us humans, especially a word that is ok for some people to say, but not others, and is in every single rap song 1,000x over, he didn’t deserve to be stripped of his entire life for it. The overreaction of todays society is so stupid.
They want to ruin a guy's career for using an off the cuff remark talking with a friend, but they use it in songs all the time. I hear it in music sometimes when every, and I mean every, line in the song uses the word. If it's so offensive no one should use it. Glad Kyle's back. He's done the right thing, asked for forgiveness and shown remorse for hurting people.
Interesting to hear Kyle talk dirt racing, especially during the last 5 or so minutes of the video. That was fun to listen to. As for the return and lessons learned, Cup racing, and whatnot, I think it's cool. I didn't see Kyle coming back this quickly tbh but looking back I can see why that's the case, I mean the dirt stuff he's done speaks for itself honestly. I think Larson is gonna really transcend his name through the things he's faced recently, it's gonna be interesting to see how that all shakes out. Being at HMS for '21 is a prospect that is realized now, and I think that the Cali native will do everything in his power to get the 5 into the playoffs and compete for a high finishing position in the points, if not maybe a championship. We'll see how that plays out alongside the schedule next year and how Kyle and the 5 team will adapt to it. I'm excited. I'm damn near ready. Just waiting on the season to end and offseason to start, at this point.
Some really great comments & observations by Mike. I believe that the DJD platform will help provide a real sense of legitimacy to Kyle's return, and truly put this unfortunate controversy behind him once & for all. Best of luck to Kyle and the #5 team in 2021! Bristol is gonna be a Hell of a show!
Glad to see Kyle back and especially hear his humility. We all make mistakes, some more ompactful.than others but we all should be given a fair chance to learn and change. Do not cast stones on others from your glass house.
Watching Larson then meeting Larson at Husets speedway was probably the coolest thing ever. He is a great, fun person to be around. See you in Kansas in 2021
Revisiting this podcast. I gotta say, Kyle IS the bridge between different racing worlds since the 'incident'. His talent alone, has made fans in all forms of racing come together and appreciate all motorsports, really. Those that never knew about sprint car racing, are now paying attention. Those fans in the dirt world that never really paid any attention to the Cup world, are now following thanks to Kyle. He is the centerpiece that has brought it all together. And he is now being rewarded with getting to drive for a top tier team, allowing him to truly showcase what he's capable of. I became a fan of his just before he entered NASCAR, so I kinda knew he would have some success, but man...he continues to impress! He's gonna continue to do great things within the racing community as a whole.
Marcus Ulmer Nice word usage. Would you have preferred a long drawn out argument? I see that he is a good driver. But I am just supposed to forgive what he did? Why? Because he is sorry? He’s sorry he got fired. He’s sorry that he lost his ride, sponsors, and the respect of many. But in just over 6 months I am supposed to buy that he is a changed man? Sorry I don’t buy it. I’ve been a NASCAR fan since 1989. In that time with all the good ol boys alive, well, and competitive we NEVER heard or saw this. In this day and age where everyone is watching, he let that word fly. That tells me he uses it in private. It was no Freudian slip. He thought it was funny and ok. People may forgive and let it go. I don’t. And I won’t be rooting for him ever again, which is sad because since JR retired I was looking for someone to follow, and I had enjoyed watching him drive. Oh well.
@@NEO_RedPill_2024 he didnt loose anyone's respect. hes a top notch guy . said a word that he hears in his music non stop , his only mistake is saying it while white. get over it.. why would he be sorry for getting fired. probably the best thing that has happend to since he signed his first contract. .
Since Jr left the sport this young man has became my favorite driver.. I remember when Dale Jr. retired a couple years ago, I told my cousin, "Chase Elliot and Kyle Larson are my drivers now I guess." I had liked Larson's driving style and career for a while, and I grew up an Earndhart and awesome Bill fan.. In my first couple of years as a young fan, the 3 and the 11 were the BMF's on the track.. So naturally Im pulling for Chase the same as I always pulled for Dale Jr. Both great wheelmen with huge shoes to fill..
He's going to be on another level at Hendrick Motorsports great equipment and his driving talent is going to equal alot of wins and potential championship or two
I don't i think a lot of people are mad more at Nascar over this than they are at Kyle Larson, this was a slap on the wrist moment and Nascar took it way way to far. People are cheering for Kyle because they already Forgave him, and this is not a 2nd chance for Larson this is a second chance for Nascar, Kyle was taking the Nascar fans with him. Nascar had to stop the bleeding
I havent been a fan of any driver after dale jr retired. But I’m officially a Kyle Larson fan. He’s got talent. He’s a good dude. He’s got a good team who will stand behind him. Kyle Larson. Your my go to bro. Congrats on being reinstated and getting with hendricks
Forgiveness is very personal, but also, without question, needs to be given to set one free. It absolutely frees the soul. Forgiveness given is as important as honesty and always telling the truth. I sincerely hope that Kyle Larson goes forward and wins a ton. Stays Humble, honest, and a wonderful ambassador for the Nascar Sport, fan Base and future of the sport. I'm a forty plus year fan of the sport. It is important to me as my music. Be the Man Mr. Larson. Thank you Dale Jr, for giving your ultimate best to the sport.

As a fan of Larson, I was very disappointed in him back in April. He owned up and got what he deserved by losing his ride and sponsors. However, I believe in a world of second chances. See him grow as a person, what he has done in the black racing community, I am more impressed. I wish nothing but this best for Kyle with Hendrick. He is the real deal. Happy for him.
Back in 99 two NASCAR hauler drivers played a prank on a black man by wearing white sheets they were fired and NASCAR said there would be ZERO TOLERANCE for racism PERIOD even if it’s a prank.
Enough has been done. He did make a crazy mistake but he does deserve to be back in nascar and has gone out of his way and i feel it really changed him because now he knows the opportunities that present themselves can be taken away at any moment no matter how good you are at your craft. Always be happy and thankful for what you have because when its gone. Its gone. Cheers kyle
I will be the first one to say that it was unacceptable for him to say what he did. However, I don’t believe for a second that he’s racist because the amount of times that I’ve heard my African-American colleagues say that word, the soft and hard variations, is insane.
I dont think he's racist but I know he knows the difference between the variations but he chose to say that one for a reason. But I doubt youve heard your coworkers say the hard ER because black people dont say it. But I'm glad he's back. He's my favorite drive still.

Some realities about Kyle Larson’s whole ordeal: 1) Saying a racial slur will never be ok no matter the intent or how much the internet wants to blurt it out. 2) Words do matter; when you’ve said something horrible, actions are what’s needed sometimes to show you mean it. 3) Forgiveness is the right of those who give it to you, and if they don’t, then that’s that nothing you can do about them do you. 4) Cancel Culture is bullshit. With that said some people and some actions shouldn’t be supported. Support those who are affected by said people or actions. 5) Second chances are earned, especially when a first chance is already as hard as it is like in nascar. 6) If Larson fucks up again then don’t complain if he’s barred from the sport outright. 7) You dont need to live in someone else’s shoes to have empathy, which our society lacks more and more of with each passing day.
As a black man, i like kyle never stopped being a fan. He said something stupid, he owned it and learned from it. Simple as that been going to sprint car races for 13 years he's one of the best I've ever seen
Larson isn't a racist! I'll be cheering for the #5 next year! I applaud Mr Hendrick for bringing the 5 back and giving us the ability to watch Kyle wheel it into victory lane.
He deserves to be back with a winning team. What he said didn't hurt nobody people say same thing everyday!!!! People need to have tougher skin words can't hurt you!!!!
Since it's just a word, go up to a group of black people and say that word. I'm sure they'll agree with you... Also, there's a huge difference between one of us regular people saying that in privacy versus a high profile individual saying that in a public manner.
@@vincewallett It's called taking your word back. That slur was used from a position of power to demean another race for generations. Taking it back is empowering, it means that you rise about the hate and take that power away from these hateful people. I guess you don't understand how language and what power it has in society works.
@@vincewallett There is a difference between "n*gger" and "n*gga". The former has been a word used to demean and degrade a population of people for hundreds of years. The latter is a variation of the former, created by black people as a means of endearment and empowerment. Through that word, whether right or wrong, black people are able to find unity in struggle that our people have dealt with for far too long. That's why you hear "n*gga" in hip hop so much.
This dude was dragged for no real reason. Absolutely ridiculous with how the community treated him. God, people are just too sensitive. They've never been in a old call of duty lobby.
For no real reason? That might be the most foolish thing I've read on the internet today. Just because you're too ignorant doesnt mean it isnt a big deal to a lot of people.
I think Kyle might tell you that what he did wasn't actually a good thing. That behaviors like an old call of duty lobby aren't really helpful to anyone.
Great to see Mr. Larson getting 2nd chance. I hope he will be a much better person and he will give good advice to others. He took too many things for granted due to his start statues. DON'T seat in your motorhome at the track ???? Be like Mr. Kyle Busch or Jr. , they strongly engage with the fans. I hardly see Mr. Larson at the racecar trailer for fans to meet him. It will be very hard to change his comfort zone. I hope Mr. Larson will prove me wrong, even a little bit ???? Show Strong Effort to people !!!!!! Cheers.
Saying the n word was the best thing this guy ever did for his career. He got a year to go do his passion and then got a seat in top tier equipment. HMM.
Dale, I wish I could have told Kyle when he was in Lawton OK exactly what you said to him in this clip. I think your right on the money; time will tell is what I said, and I believe Kyle is doing the things he needs to be a better man. I'm gonna enjoy seeing him on the "big stage" once again
I always have been a dale Sr. Fan then a JR fan and when Larson came along I become a fan the first time I notice him he was in a race on the last lap he went to the out side of Kyle bush and almost beat him it was a photo finish everyone was shocked in was end then for sure a big fan of his👍👍👍👍👍
To me this made things better. Kyle was my favorite active driver (Jeff Gordon being my All time favorite)...broke my heart when I saw this event happen knee he was in for a ride (no pun intended) and that he made an honest mistake. But now my favorite driver is on my favorite team (Hendrick)!!!
Happy he is back, he is a good person and it showed by how he took his suspension and worked to get back to NASCAR. Not many drivers would have taken it as well as he did.
Im glad Hendrick is gonna let him run dirt, I live in Central PA and over the last few years he has been good, but this year he was here a lot and you don't come dominate the posse, all stars, and Outlaws at those tracks, but he did, unreal wheel man. Even won a Lucas Oil late model race at Port smh.
You seriously need to get will Cronkite on your show. He has a new book out about his nascar journey, and he was Sr's 1st car owner. He's an amazing person and great to talk to.
We rush to fire someone, to distance ourselves, our brands, when someone makes a mistake. Kyle's is a redemption story. Chip could have suspended him, but he caved to cancel culture and cut him loose. His loss is Rick Hendrick's gain. Kyle is a boss on the track man!
I hate everyone saying he made a "mistake". He said what he said ON PURPOSE. He just thought no one besides his crew chief could hear him. His only mistake getting caught. If he hadn't, he'd still be calling people the N-word, and not giving a damn. Having said that, second chances are good, and I hope he can redeem himself. The rest of us have to acknowledge the wrong, and quit acting like it was something out of character.
I’m glad he owned up to his mistake, and I’m glad NASCAR and Hendricks gave him a chance to come back. Let the incident go and put it behind us, so everyone can move forward the sport and fans

You know I love watching Larson as a fan. He's an amazing dirt track racer and the sport is going to miss him. I personally won't watch Nascar but hope that Larson comes back or runs more dirt in the future!
Glad to see Larson appears to be genuinely trying to improve himself and learn from the situation. Wish the rest of the racists in this comment section could figure out what personal growth is instead of doubling down like they always seem to do. Hope nascar continues to eradicate this bs from races and the broader nascar community so we can grow as a sport.
Thinking there is a racist around every corner huh. It's 2020 not 1960. Wake up and stop believing the victim propaganda. Bubba wallace did it for a paycheck. Went from barely having a job to all new sponsors and a new team. All over something that didn't happen.

Haven’t been this excited about racing since Jr went to Hendrick. Jr was my driver in my childhood, now it’s Larson. Kyle will dominate & win multiple rings. Best driver in NASCAR!

Forgiveness for what?
That whole deal was bull$hit ! Will be good to see him back in the seat !
My opinion of Kyle Larson has not changed one bit. He's an exceptional driver - period.
He is a elite person and more so as a driver, joining the like's of A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Tony Stewart. He is the best of the best!
And what would any of those guys say if confronted in those days with what Kyle is going thru?
Yeah and he’s a bigot.
@@NEO_RedPill_2024 nice simpleton analysis
Oh well.
@@NEO_RedPill_2024 he didnt loose anyone's respect. hes a top notch guy . said a word that he hears in his music non stop , his only mistake is saying it while white. get over it.. why would he be sorry for getting fired. probably the best thing that has happend to since he signed his first contract. .
YES! So happy y’all had him on and that he is allowed to race! Dale jr your amazing !
Just because he said one of the forbidin words. Yes a mistake. Apologize and move on. Situation was so overblown.
He's going to be on another level at Hendrick Motorsports great equipment and his driving talent is going to equal alot of wins and potential championship or two
This comment aged really well.
Who is here after he’s won 4 in a row 😂😂😂😂😂
3 in a row, well 3 points paying races, 4 races actual
Should have won 5!
I'm only here because Rick Allen told me to watch this during the Automotive 500

I am glad your happier now. You never did anything wrong. The world needs to grow up. Your a good man without them.
Dale’s Dennis Setzer shirt is awesome!
Great show! Nice Mike! Enjoyed your words! And Kyle's experience!

Its gone. Cheers kyle

been a Larson fan since 2012-2013. I've told people for a long time that hes one of the best natural talents we'll see in our time.

Kyle Welcome back....I'm black and live a few miles from you. I thought they came down on you way to hard. Anyway Race hard Champ!!!!!😎💯👍💪
Some realities about Kyle Larson’s whole ordeal:
1) Saying a racial slur will never be ok no matter the intent or how much the internet wants to blurt it out.
Larson to the 5 baby!!
It’s not about “tougher” skin. The N word is not just a word, it’s a slur that you should never say
Since it's just a word, go up to a group of black people and say that word. I'm sure they'll agree with you... Also, there's a huge difference between one of us regular people saying that in privacy versus a high profile individual saying that in a public manner.
@@MongoJoe7863 then explain the reasoning behind it in almost every damn hip hop album?

Great to see Mr. Larson getting 2nd chance. I hope he will be a much better person and he will give good advice to others. He took too many things for granted due to his start statues. This is a very good and important video. I have a ton of respect for Kyle and his journey.
If you were a huge Jeff Gordon fan you’re now supposed to be a chase Elliot fan! Cmon man 😜
Happy he is back, he is a good person and it showed by how he took his suspension and worked to get back to NASCAR.
Absolutely a true talent. I always enjoy watching Kyle Larson . He can drive , natural talent .
What they hated you for turned into a blessing.
We rush to fire someone, to distance ourselves, our brands, when someone makes a mistake. Kyle's is a redemption story. Chip could have suspended him, but he caved to cancel culture and cut him loose. His loss is Rick Hendrick's gain. Kyle is a boss on the track man!
Hopefully the fast pass crash course in sensitivity training doesn't make him woke. That'd be worse than his original mistake.
How would that make him worse I’d love to know
I hate everyone saying he made a "mistake".
Good luck for him next year once 2021 comes around! I’m sure a lot of drivers will be happy to see him return onto the Daytona racetrack next year! 👍
Congrats on the mile and half track win in Vegas where he truly deserves
