Deftly interweaving myth, psychology and memoir, Sharon Blackie argues that menopause ushers in a rich and vibrant new phase of life, and explores the many different ways in which women can flourish during what is so often portrayed as a time of decline.
Hagitude unearths the stories of the little-known but powerful elder women in European myth and folklore, inspiring readers to imagine that the last decades of our lives might be the most dynamic of all. This moving and uplifting book will inspire a new generation of female elders: women who have reclaimed their Inner Hag, matured into their own unique brand of hagitude and who are ready to pass down their deep feminine wisdom for the benefit of the wider Earth community.
Dr. Sharon Blackie is an award-winning writer, psychologist and mythologist. After I stopped bleeding the rage of perimenopause stopped and was replaced by extreme anxiety and thirty or so hot flashes every day . My doctor wants me on 4 different medications . But once I realized all of this is from the deep transformation of menopause the anxiety abated . Now I'm marveling at the power and depth of it all . Millions of years of evolution have lead to this experience. There's got to be a deep purpose for it .
I've thrown myself into the abyss and something older and wiser than myself is carrying me .

Thank you so much for this interview. Really great interviewer. I very much admire Dr Sharon Blackie's work has helped me connect to my cultural lineages and totally see her as a leader when the question was asked. An activist or a leader takes many forms. I would argue a myth or bard story teller is totally an activist!!
