The United States of America is a very LARGE and DIVERSE country, with hundreds of different types of cultures, cities, and natural scenery. So in order to determine which states and territories are the best (and worst), we analyze a few categories including their economy, climate, cost of living, crime and safety, education, health, and quality of life. I also implemented the pros and cons of each location and my personal experiences as I have lived in 10 and visited 52 of the 55 states and territories on this list!
Whether you want empty space to homestead and buy cheap land, OR live in a big walkable city with plenty of amenities, the US has it all! So my biggest suggestion is to visit these cities, towns, and state before you decide where you want to move to and live.
*Which US State or Territory would YOU want to live in the most?*

I'm British - us Europeans often think of the USA being similar from coast to coast, but this video really hammers home how different the states are. It's mindblowing to me that some states have worse life expectancies than Bangladesh while others are richer than Switzerland!
Excellent comment! I learned a lot from him about USA (more than from my school)
The US is very diverse.
Don’t be fooled by life expectancy data. The number given is an average of all the people. If one state had a large number of men dying from prostate cancer, the state average would be lower, but it would not affect women’s life expectancy. If there is a high homicide rate, the life expectancy would be lowered because most victims are young men, thereby lowering the life expectancy rate. On e again, women’s rate is unaffected. In a state with a high breast cancer death rate, men would not be affected. Averages of anything tell us very little especially when the things measured also differ. All in all, not a very informative video, but good for deterring foreigners.
Yes USA is a very LARGE and DIVERSE, It will very interesting for him to produce a video to compare USA vs Europe vs Asia?
I always culture/standard of living is always determined far more by cities rather than country/state/region. Even within these states living in some areas vs others make huge differences.

As a resident of northern South Carolina, it’s relatively peaceful here. Most of the bad things in our state are in the central region. The cost of living where I live is very affordable, and the Blue Ridge mountains are beautiful. I can definitely see why people are moving to South Carolina.

Alabama. I was expecting AL and MI together. I watch this for the bottom 10.

Don't worry all you residents of states that are rated so lowly here. These people who rate states, and cities, are just expressing their own opinion. Actually, some of these state raters were dropped on their head as babies and sustained major cognitive impairment. But that's alright because it's all about the first amendment. I love America, and I even visit the sketchy, lowly appraised, states!
Going out on a limb here but I’d say this guy’s just a little biased. It’s not hard from his accent to guess he’s not a southerner. His facts are also way off. North Carolina has a very good economy. US News ranked it fourteenth in the US. If the economy was really that bad, all those people from those better states wouldn’t be moving here in droves.
Tennessee is great too
If Massachusetts is the best state in the US then I don't want to be here anymore. Came out of college and worked for Amazon in Fall River, the place was a dump. Then I worked for a consulting company that worked in the greater Boston area, but because of the cost lf living I had to live in Worcester. I had to pay 1500 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment with only road side parking and it was infested with mice. We would hear the mice in the vents and walls, they would fall in the vent system, they were in our oven, we cooked burgers one day and an hour later there were two rolling in the grease in the pan. The celings were 12 feet high and the fire alarm would keep us up literally all night from randomly going off. The winters were harsh as well. I had to learn ways to get unburied from snow real quick. People will shovel out a roadside spot and or salt it, then guard it claiming the spot. So many homeless people. By far they had the WORST drivers. The traffic gets so bad that people got used to just inching out into the road until trafffic is forced to stop. And round abouts.... So many round abouts. Fun fact Worcester has one of THE WORST intersections in the US, its called Kelly Square, the 11 way no light intersection.
I love MA. the smart state
Bingo, I've lived in Massachusetts and Southern New England my entire life and it's overrated. It's very difficult to live comfortably unless you make 6 figures. I know a family in Worcester where both the wife and husband work full time and they still haven't been able to afford a home. They're in their 40s! Eastern Mass is IMPOSSIBLE unless you're loaded with money.
A lot of people here are either socially awkward or midwits. Obviously not everyone is like this, and I know tons of great people in Mass. But if you leave the state, you'll notice a general attitude shift in people as soon as you hit Pennsylvania.
We have good education, and crime is low. But every state has bad areas and good ones. Worcester and Springfield have sketchy parts.
I hope you do leave, Massachusetts is a dead end for the lower middle class or young people trying to get off their feet. You might never own a home, start a family, or even make enough to live a comfortable life. I'm getting out ASAP. I can get a nice home in South Dakota or Kentucky for under $200k with plenty of job opportunities and good pay.
Also, they re-did Kelly Square, it's ironically a roundabout now, LOL. I remember the old one, that intersection was scary.
You said California's economy is exceptional; you mean it is exceptionally bad don't you.

I lived in Juneau Alaska for about five years with my parents. It did have its ups and downs but what made up for it was a glacier in our backyard, it’s situated in a temperate rainforest and it has some of the best fishing I’ve ever seen. I now live in New Orleans and the only good about it is that your food doesn’t take a week to get here like in Juneau and the downtown skyline. I’ve also lived in other states and was born in Tennessee so I’m more of a rural outdoor kid than a city kid

Make an video "every state that is a victim of the Detroit effect"
Detroit effect: an effect created by me, the Detroit effect is when an state has only one big city, if you live away from that city your life is Good or avarege, but if you live near or in the city your life is an hell hole, like Michigan whit Detroit or Illinois whit Chicago, the only ways to avoid that effect is, or having more than one big city like California that has San Francisco, LA etc, or not having any big city at all like Vermont
I'm from the northern lower peninsula of Michigan. When I went to Detriot, I barely saw anything "wrong." (Plus, it's getting better there.)
I would suggest that when ranking states, an important factor should be net migration rates. If people are moving into a state it should be higher on the list than states where people are leaving.
How do you figure ? Only reason people are moving there is because it’s cheap - why is it cheap? Because of all the issues and lack of opportunity. Theres a reason California, New York, and Washington are expensive - because people are willing to pay more to live there. No ones going to pay California prices in Kentucky, Mississippi, West Virginia, or even Texas (which is why they sell their 1 BR shack in California and get a mansion in Texas).
@@wayoutwest3009And another reasons: retirees. No offense, but they are not helping those aforementioned states to become economically better.
Migration wouldn’t be the greatest metric, the main reason why people leave states is cost of living (ie. California). If California/NYC had Texas prices people would FLOOD back in because they would rather live there than Texas. Cost of living is most certainly an important metric, but it’s not everything (who would want to live in Mississippi?) it’s better to look at it holistically.
It’s crazy that East Tennessee compared to middle and West Tennessee is like 1000,000 to one is like heaven on earth
Knoxville, Nashville, and Memphis are all SOOOO different. I'm from Greeneville and Knoxville.
Go Vols!
Yea I am from and live in middle Tennessee and I love where I live
I wouldn’t live anywhere else!! Keep in mind they ranked states with big cities, where they live and poop in the street and there is no law enforcement, higher than Tn! Lol!
@ulfhednar_sentinel Truth! I live 30 minutes from Memphis therefore I listen to the local Memphis news every morning. Well, not every morning anymore. Now I mainly just listen to catch the weather because I got so sick of the nonstop news on shootings, murders, carjacking, robberies, etc. every single freaking day! I rarely go into Memphis. It is a real sh!t hole. I can't speak for Nashville because I have only been there twice.
Exactly. I live in Nashville and it’s become a libturd hellhole
New Hampshire is more boring than dirt. Massachusetts is Boston with a little extra. Never ending traffic and pot holes. Maine, if you like seafood, it is the place to live. Michigan has the best beaches and unfortunately, Detroit and Flint. California sucks in so many ways it is hard to list.
Great video. Poor Mississippi and West Virginia can't catch a break.
It really is sad to see :/ Especially in West Virginia's case. Such a beautiful state

@@nicholassummers2628 That's why these rankings need to be taken with a grain of salt.
Having been a Mississippian since 1961 living in Gulfport and Biloxi all that time I appreciate the lack of state tax on my retirement income both SS and pension. While wages are low that can be balanced against cost of living which narrows the gap with higher wage states. Having traveled in my working life I decided I am quite happy here.
I dont know what world you live in, but last time i checked hawaii aint no safe place to live.
As a Hoosier (someone from Indiana) I can agree that you aren't missing much if you don't drive through it. However, we make up for it with a great capital city, Indianapolis. Also we are one of the largest and loudest fanbases for college sports (mostly basketball).
As another Hoosier, I forgot Indiana was a place for a second.
Indiana makes up for it in a lot of ways, especially with all of their lakes & rivers & their festivals!
Indianapolis is the powerhouse economy of the state, but it's kind of a boring city. Not much tourism there.
From all the stuff we hear from the Texas GOP, you'd think Texas would rate better than 33.
If you're in a blue area of Texas, life is pretty nice ❤
@@Alaniz16 What blue area?
I’m in Nevada, and I’m fine living here and working full time, but if I ever have a kid, I’d rather raise them in New England. I was born there, and my dad had to move us out because of the job market, but now? What state doesn’t want an experienced bacteriologist? Nevada is said to have all the big city problems and none of the big city benefits, but when they’re between projects, the roads and parking are great. But can you please mark the parking lots a bit better? Or reprogram the Garmins to guide you to them instead of to the front of the buildings?
I lived in Virginia for a while, in the Hampton Roads area, and the commutes and schools were awful. But there’s tons of fun stuff to do on weekends (a zoo, museums, historical Jamestown and Williamsburg, amusement parks and water parks and a beach the whole family can enjoy), so I’d recommend a family vacation there. Bring bug repellent.

I moved to South Carolina and there’s a reason South Carolina is one of the fastest growing states. You seem to be making all your judgments for these states based on stereotypes. I thought it would all just be a bunch of farm land here but it’s actually a huge industry hub because of low taxes and partnerships with the universities. You call it one of the highest growing states then just move on because you don’t like it without actually knowing anything about the state. It has rapidly growing universities like Clemson. It has some of the fastest growing cities in the country like Greenville being in the top 10 in multiple ‘best small cities in US’ lists. And why do you say it has no good jobs? It is a pretty big industry hub especially with automotive and aerospace being in between both Charlotte and Atlanta having BMW, Boeing, GE, Michelin, Husqvarna. It is in the top half of the country for economy. Where are you getting your information? I think I would respect the placement more if you actually explained why you conveniently left a lot of factors why people move places off. The whole “I don’t know why people are moving here” really takes a hit on your credibility
Any state that taxes social security will never get me as a resident.

@@BigPapiCapone it's really 40 out of 50
i am one too and i can say the same lol@@BigPapiCapone
Like u said because it's "cheap" and most retirees from the northeast move there because I'm pretty South Carolina is one of those states that doesn't tax social security. nobody says "I'm gonna start my career in South Carolina".
As someone who lives in Kansas City, im glad you consider it underrated because it really is great
One of my favorite cities in the country! Punches well above its weight and it's still super cheap comparatively!
San Antonio is better
San Antonio is better
San Antonio is better
San Antonio is better
Colorado is getting lower and lower on the list😓
Sadly :/
I've lived here for a long time and each year, it's getting worse. I wish it wasn't because I love it. When we first moved here, the school systems were great and my son got a great education, but from what a lot of my neighbors whose children are going to the same ones my son went to, they're not what they used to be. Job market is getting really bad, so he may be moving, even though he loves Colorado as much as I do. The more people move here, the more they trash it, the worse the driving gets, the more nature gets taken away and replaced by over price, bad quality cookie cutter homes, the more expensive everything is getting, and the more crowded everything gets. And, crime is getting a lot worse too. Even though I still love it, I'm not sure I'm going to stay once I retire. Looking really hard at Maryland and some of the other northeast coast states. We'll see what happens as time goes by.
I was so excited for Virginia, and you talked about it for only 10 seconds!
yeh cuz it suck
California...exceptional economy? Dude is taking some serious drugs
Memphis brings Tennessee down a lot in these rankings imo. Middle and East TN are nice.
I agree. Memphis is the armpit of the state. Nashville is a great thriving city and recently surpassed Memphis in population.
Mississippi has had a historical bad rap. Yet, while the rest of the US school children steadily declined in education, our kids were climbing thanks to our Republican Governor. Mississippi is a fishing sportsman’s paradise and we have wonderful hiking trails. Mississippi is also the cheapest place for retirees. The low income of Mississippians is undeniably skewed by the large areas of welfare population governed by the Socialist Democrats. The true comparison would be between a city of a state with the city of another state that comparable by their sociopolitical make up. The Democratic run cities with evenly match racial diversity would score pretty much the same.
Interesting political opinions. LOL.
Mississippi and West Virginia are alike in many ways. They both rank at the bottom of just about everything, but politics are a very small part of it. Both states were heavily democrat many years ago, but now they're red states. Like it or not, both states are backward, impoverished, and full of uneducated rednecks. The difference is - West Virginia used to be more industrious back in the day. Mississippi, not so much.
As an arizonan, beige is the only color you'll see here. All our houses look like boxes of old El paso.
Ha, ha, ha!....Does that mean the multicolor LGTB flags aren't flying there? 😅
@@JERios-wv8lx I wish.... lol.
The suburban houses built in the last 20-30 years look like this, but there are historic neighborhoods around central Phoenix that are very charming. Many of those homes are easily worth $1 million or more.
Massachusetts! Best healthcare and Education. I just don't the winter but we really haven't had one in a few years. No place is perfect but Massachusetts is my home. Also I'm not a mass**** lol
Being from Mississippi, I will take my state over your disastrous liberal dumpster fire. Seen New York lately pal. Get a clue man.
u were my favorite youtuber growing up and its great to see u doing what u love instead of making content about stuff u dont enjoy anymore
Basically all the cold states are better than the warm states, and the average temperature states are average.
I hate the cold.
He thinks California is better than Texas... Dudes crazy
@@lane1776 California IS better than Texas, just not by much. They're both mid, they just got a ton of people which makes their economies look huge.
@@eclipticsonata1313 Economy is a very important factor. California would rank higher if it wasn't for the ridiculous cost of living and crazy politics. Texas would rank higher if it had California's weather and scenery.
I live in illinois i hate most of the state but chicago is my favorite city by far
Mass is ass. I lived in winchester they tax u on everything even when u take a dump. Not recommend if you're in the poor bracket. Nh is boring lived there as well, and vermont is my home state and also trash.
I think this is like CNN polls. It's kinda over the top liberal.
As someone lived 15 years in Minnesota and 5 in San Francisco cali suburbs i mich preferred san Francisco
SSF (no homeless & many free car parking) is better than than SF
Florida is TOOOO damn expensive to live in
Yeah it's gotten pretty ridiculous in recent years
Come to Georgia then
Agreed I was raised in Central Florida and is ridiculous. I moved from Florida to Columbus, Ohio and everything he said is true. Columbus is growing so fast and a lot of opportunities and very cheap compared to Orlando. I think Ohio should be a little higher they are doing great.
The quality of life in Florida is superior to most all other states. It’s priceless having a perfect fall, winter and spring here. In the summer in Central Florida and North it’s no different than most Mid western states. Southern Florida is too humid alright in summers.
It is expensive to live if you have a low paid job like you work at Best Buy or are a kindergarten teacher. But if you are a working professional like an engineer it’s fine.
@@christianriveravazquez1212 Ohio 😂boooooooooooorinh fly over country. As is with all of the Mid-West. Winters are miserable there and most cities in Ohio are dangerous Ghettos.
Hawai'i: A carton of eggs now costs 12 bucks (we found good old days humor in the 8 bucks stated). Great video. Thank you.
I stopped taking you serious after Texas ranking worse than California. The only way that would make sense is if your a homeless person. Regular folk have already made there choices.
As a New Hampshirite, I can confirm it is a pretty good life up here
How is it for kids? Education and healthcare??

PA the best state to t
Retire in?? Really. I live in PA and want to move back to Michigan. PA is very progressive and is very beautiful.
Pennsylvania is conservative. It's just Pittsburgh and Philly that are liberal
Living in Massachusetts but only 4 minutes driving time to the New Hampshire border, you could say that I have the best of both worlds 🎉
How is the criminality in NH and MA? How is live and education for kids?
I was in New Mexico recently for vacation, and seeing your placement of it felt so validating stg. I felt really uncomfortable there and I could never pin down why.
Excited to see how Michigan ranks!
Edit: omg as a Michigander that placement made me almost burst out laughing. I kinda wasn't expecting to see it so low, but it's a fair placement, and I'm glad you had good things to say about it
Personally I love new mexico and I've never felt uncomfortable there. To each their own
These rankings are good info but doesn't mean places are that bad. Mississippi for example has many nice places and is bogged down by education and city of Jackson being so bad.
new mexico is a downmarket version of arizona
Blud said only positive things about new york and places it 27th
Y’all Tennessee is much better, it has a very good growing economy, it actually had the 2nd fastest growing economy in 2022. The crime rate is only high because mostly Memphis, and he definitely exaggerated everything else… y’all I’ve lived here all my life, it’s not perfect…but its better than how he describes it…JUSTICE FOR TENNESSEE
Nashville has a very strong economy. The rest of the state does not. And the crime and murder rates are well above average in every major city in the state. I will say, however, the Eastern part is BREATHTAKING and the people are exceptionally friendly! Hope you enjoyed the video!
lol
I knew if I skipped to the middle of the video Ohio would be there! 😂
Always in the middle, the Goldilocks state
Mississippi may rate last but as a move in I can tell you some of these things are true but I can also say it is one of the nicest places to live. The people are kind and caring and the weather is great except for July and August. You don’t have to be money hungry to live here. Comparing us to Bangladesh is just totally wrong.
It depends on what part of the state i would guess
“Since Vermonters shop locally…”
They don’t. They go to NH to do their shopping due to no sales tax there
Moved from Minnesota to Tennessee and was the best thing I ever did.
Number 26 for my homeland. Eh, I'm okay with that.
This is surely why everyone is rushing to live in Massachusetts .... oh wait.
Those who can afford to - do.
MA is the best
@@annarose6410 Usually it's Californians saying that state is the best. I'm visiting MA right now (I live in Vermont.) I don't dislike MA but "the best" is really subjective, in my opinion. I definitely prefer Vermont over Massachusetts but that's because I like more of the open countryside and less congestion. If I were super rich perhaps I'd choose Colorado with a mountain home in the Rockies.

So Massachusetts has the best education and then Harvard happens...
When they talk about Mass having the best education it's not the quality of the colleges and universities they are talking about (although many are among the best in the nation). They are talking about the quality of their public education system. Also to the fact that Mass has the highest percentage of citizens with college and advanced degrees.

Oklahoma has all these programs to fund education. Gambling, Marijuana, taxes, and etc... The problem is none of this money actually gets to the lower level of education. Not only is the government corrupt, so is the education system and the judicial system.
This is a poor state and it will always be a poor state.
The reason Oklahoma doesn’t grow is because all the young educated people tend to move out. There’s little to no job opportunities and the pay is low compared to other states. Nobody actually wants to live in Oklahoma, they only live there because they have to. Sure, the cost of living is fairly low compared to the national average but I’m a strong believer that low cost of living also equals low quality of life. I lived in OKC and Tulsa.
This is terrible. Not even good for entertainment purposes.
FINALLY taking crime into consideration. Well done!

Your Arizona ranking was incredibly stupid. You literally said nothing other than you rank it 35 (#2 in inactivity...that's it--people driving everywhere...oh, no...what a nightmare.). Your other statements about beige suburban houses and beautiful parks...makes your ranking baffling.

You are indeed correct that Massholes support much of New Hampshire. Lived there for 2 decades and the fall foliage, lakes, mountains, etc attract tourists from the lower 3 states: MA, CT, & RI. I was shocked it was at number 2. I am a proud former NH resident. 🙂
