Yes, a very good polemic. Because it's so ridiculous that countries like Germany are rated so high and Poland so low. In Poland the quality of life is much better than in such countries. There are clean streets in Poland. This is completely different in this country. Completely trashed! Poland has a very low crime rate in comparison. In contrast, crime is extremely high in the countries west of Poland. Women are not safe on the streets because there is a lot of rape. Many people die in knife attacks. In general, violent crime is extreme. In addition, there are also terrorist attacks. There are no riots in Poland! This is also different in this country. There are always violent riots there. How can a European nation without housing for its own citizens be in the top 3? That's Ireland, and any housing "available" is priced obscenely high. This video is an example where the economic statistics overrule common sense.
Why is this housing crisis simultaneously occurring in so many developed Western countries at the same time? It's utterly disgraceful that we are being bled dry by global companies hoping to profit from high demand for housing.
@@thecrimsondragon9744 Right ,the housing crisis in the west is caused by bureaucrat gate keepers who limit new homes from being built in mass and lower property values for wealthy developers and for those who already own homes. At least in Canada's case where I live.
@@thecrimsondragon9744 In Ireland landlords make more money renting out properties short-term to tourists, which diminishes the stock of housing for residents. In the U.S., U.K. & elsewhere the culprits are corporations engaged in price fixing.
I live in Ireland. This completely misrepresents Ireland. We're incredibly pressured by a housing crisis, a severely inadequate health service, cost of living crisis and a government that doesn't care about any of these problems. We shouldn't even be top 15 on this list. This list must be skewed in favour of the money funelled through huge tech multinationals who set up in Dublin because of the low corporate tax rate.
Well said Tony, lots of problems here and all other countries think we are loaded due to the huge amount of money the multinational companies pass through here. Great country but it's run by clowns.
For anybody considering migrating to any of those countries, please be aware these aren't the only factors that determine the quality of life in a place. I'm a German that lived in Italy and has been living in Greece for many years. There are things we can't measure easily that influence how satisfied you'll be in a new country like how compatible you are with their culture or how easy it is to make friends, difficulty level of the local language, foods available, bureaucracy, how to locals view your home country, job opportunities for foreigners, ... If you like living close to the sea and are an extrovert, Austria and Switzerland will make you feel miserable. If you are a vegan, the less westernised a country is, the more difficult it is to find vegan options. Also consider that places like Germany, Sweden or Ireland might offer a good job market and strong economy, but very difficult housing situation. The weather also really is important. Not everyone can deal with cloudy, rainy weather on 250 days a year or with the winter darkness in the north.
There really are very few places that have great climate for me. Sweden (except its southern part and coastlines) is almost perfect. I prefer real winter with snow and ice for months. But the most important part is that summers don't go higher than 25° (it's rare in Sweden). Summers are ok in Ireland and as far down south as the Netherlands, but there is no winter there. Long winter nights are not a problem for me. I am more concerned with bright summer nights in the North. That is why I wouldn't choose the northern part of Sweden. Somewhere between Örebro and Östersund should be great.
Ireland is a great example of why statistics if not understood completely and in context can be deceiving. Many Irish are leaving their own country and they are certainly not happy with the way they have been managed as a whole. Many of them are actually struggling economically despite having such a high GDP per capita (distorted by big corporations based in that country). GDP wealth in Ireland doesn’t represent real wealth.
Very true. Ireland became such a "wealthy" country in the '90s and 2000s because billionaires stashed their wealth there on paper. But their money did not raise the public's lives up.
@@brianarbenz1329 Ireland has never been an offshore tax haven for high wealth individuals, the only ones we have are irish Americans buying up old estates to fulfill long held fantasies about their Irishness (and an EU passport). The don't come for taxation, as personal income tax is high. The success of the economy has been attracting business with low corporate tax rates, a large young well edcuated population and being an English speaking EU member country...
@kaixokaleabilbao2770 utter nonsense, highest ever salaries, lowest ever unemployment rates, Irish born people now emigrate out of choice because they can, not because they have to. I'm from the Netherlands and moved to southern Spain a little over a year ago.... so I moved "down the ladder" theoretically. 🤣 My life in the Netherlands was not bad at all... But I dreaded the 6 months of cold rainy "fall" weather each year and I wanted to live somewhere more relaxed, less crowded and have nice weather year-round. So far it's been great, I have no regrets. In the end it all boils down to personal preference and what you want out of life. ✌
Well, I moved from the Netherlands to Malta 23 years ago. Even further down the ladder, so to say. We have better weather than Spain. 🙂 While it can be scorching hot, especially now with global warming, the sea moderates a great deal, and we NEVER have snow. You wouldn't think of the Netherlands as crowded if you lived in Malta. The population density is about 3.5 times that of the Netherlands. Even the Randstad doesn't come close to the average population density of Malta. One thing that I did learn, though, is that the Dutch complain way too much about their own country. Everything is well organised, they have the best roads in Europe, they have the best (and most expensive) healthcare in Europe. Would I move back to the Netherlands? No. Once you've lived abroad long enough, there will come a day where you realise that you and your native country have drifted apart. You realise that you're getting older, that travel isn't as easy as it once was, and that the number of times that you'll meet your parents in person can be counted on the fingers of at most two hands. But you're not really an integral part of your adoptive country either. And that yields some very fundamental questions about what you really are. Migrating can be very enriching, but it's not to be taken lightly. And that, again, is something that many Dutch don't quite realise.
@@SeverityOne Funny you mention living in Malta, I have actually been there twice, so yes I KNOW how crowded it is haha! Also one of the reasons I wouldn't move there (also because it is a small island and I'd feel a little limited in my abilities to explore and drive long distances to other places or countries). Weather wise, well I live close to Alicante and we have probably one of the sunniest climates in Europe, so I doubt Malta will have more sunny weather 😜 But yea I agree it is a big step to migrate and it has its consequences, for sure.
@@omniradius6908 Hey, I said the best weather, not the sunniest. Although Wikipedia lists a considerably higher number of sunshine hours for Malta than Alicante. Overall, it lists Malta is being a bit warmer and sunnier than Alicante. And contrary to some random website, Wikipedia cites sources. It makes sense, though: Malta is one of the southernmost places in Europe, roughly at the same parallel as Gibraltar. Having said that, sunnier isn't necessarily better, as far as I'm concerned. You can't really go out in summer, and in fact, many people in Malta suffer from vitamin D deficiency.
Well, you literally said " We have better weather than Spain." ....read your own post 😅 But you can have your standpoint that it's better weather than here, I don't care much haha. I do agree about the summer, since summer here is also too hot and you want to be inside with the A/C on most days.

Yes, the narrator didn't say anything about that when mentioning Poland, did he? In fact, I seem to remember he said Britain was the only European country with 'free healthcare' as he termed it. (Of course, it's never actually free, as the people pay for it indirectly via taxes!!) We also used to have a 'free' healthcare system in the Netherlands which was abolished in 2006 (I think) by a totally malevolent cretin named Hoogervorst who at that time was minister of Public Health. He falsely claimed that the expenses for individual citizens would plummet due to 'competition' among the healthcare insurers and 'the workings of the market' and more of the same crap. Needless to say, the expenses didn't plummet. They skyrocketed. With the result that we probably now have one of the very worst healthcare systems in Europe.
It's low ranking only because it's being compared to western Europe, so the expectations are high. Obviously one of the best post-soviet countries today

one has to wonder in these comparisons that Finland is mentioned as having a dark and long winter, just as if Sweden, Norway and Iceland were somehow brighter and warmer...
But they ARE warmer and brighter, lol. Most of Swedens population live south of Helsinki, and they have brighter and warmer winters. Many norwegians also live south of Helsinki, and the western coast of Norway with the second and third largest cities hardly get any snow in the winter. Both Norway and Iceland have warmer winters because of the Gulf -stream. They have a different climate than Finland, that is more affected by Sibiria.
@@okklidokkli the majority of the Finnish population lives in southern Finland. Helsinki is located approx. 200 km further north than Oslo and Stockholm. Stockholm is located east of the Scandinavian mountains on the shore of the Gulf of Finland and has roughly the same climate as Helsinki or Turku. The same føn wind appears in Finland as dry and warm when moisture has rained on the Norwegian coast and mountains, so Norway is a wet and windy country and the amount of daylight is the same and even less in northern Norway than anywhere else in Finland.

Countless historic cities, castles, and natural wonders 4. Budapest is one of the best cities worldwide, featuring: - the most quirky party district (Jewish Quarter) - the best and largest collection of natural thermal spas (healthy, historic, ornate bathhouses that make it hard to choose between), in fact it's the #1 capital worldwide for geothermal water sources - the most obvious kind of porn is actually architecture (but that's a good thing, as Anthony Bourdain puts it) - some of the biggest festivals (Sziget) and other unique forms of entertainment, including a Spa-Party, or 'Sparty'
Depression is indeed an important aspect to consider when discussing Iceland and its quality of life. Several factors might contribute to higher rates of depression in Iceland: Long, Dark Winters: Due to its northern location, Iceland experiences very long and dark winters. The lack of sunlight can increase the risk of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression. Isolation: Iceland's geographical isolation can lead to feelings of loneliness and isolation for some individuals. This can be especially true for immigrants or those living in remote areas. Climatic Conditions: The harsh climate and extreme weather conditions can impact general well-being and contribute to lower mood levels. Genetic Factors: Some studies suggest that genetic factors may play a role in the prevalence of depression in certain populations, and Iceland has a relatively homogenous population, which facilitates genetic studies. Economic and Social Factors: Economic fluctuations, social isolation, and other socio-economic factors can also contribute to the mental health of the population.
As someone from El Salvador I would love to live anywhere in Europe even if some of their citizens call their countries horrible like the ones in the balkans and eastern europe.
I hope that not everybody has this intention. Thousands (or millions) from South America marching to USA or Europe will transform gradually these countries into the same mess as you have at home. Millions of immigrants who do not learn the language, do not accept the costumes and values of the host country will on long term destroy these societies, so they will not find "a better life".
Rome has 2777 years. It had a million inhabitants in 10 AC being the bigger city of the world. Has always been chaotic, dirty and crowded since then, so that emperor Augustus had to do a special program to improve the city chaos. But has been the crib of Western civilization. As William Wetmore wrote "Rome is dirty but it is Rome. anyone who has lived in Rome for a long time knows that that filth has a charm that not even the cleanest places in the world have". In Italy we have free national health system which you in USA don't even dream, you have to be lucky not to get sick and financially ruined. Quality of life is not just simple matter of GDP, there are art, nature, cordiality, people, food etc.
c'est vrai, je suis française et j'adore l'Italie.C'est un superbe pays d'un point de vue historique et architectural . On s'y sent très bien et on y mange aussi très bien ( j'avoue que le vin ne m'intéresse pas)
What's the point of living in country no. 1, 2 or 3 and being bored to death? The country in Europe that will have the highest life expectancy in the future is Spain. I wonder why that might be? Perhaps people here are simply happier and don't make such a big issue of it? And the happiest people live in Finland? The high suicide rate doesn't fit in with this.
Italy here, venice for the precision. Here it's not two different countries, it's a continuous change from north to south. We have so many dialects that to me it's culturally closer south of French than Sicily although I love the south of Italy more than my home town. Spain and Portugal are not thant far at all. I went to both last time in 2023 and it seems just matter of language but people are just exactly like me. Helthcare here is not only not bad at all and included on taxes and nobody has ever been rejected from a hospital. it's really rare that people go to privare healthcare to get a much better service. To me this hugely improve quality of life. I think on comments french is underrated and generally I do not agree with anyone of the rank given to any nation on this video but in general what I agree with is the richness of different culture within few thousand kilometers is very likely just the highst on this galaxy. Almost 25 different ways to say "glass of wine" 🥂 cheers to all and have a great 2024
Latvian here, the road situation is improving slowly but hopefully the government will also boost the public transport as well as cycling. Very happy about Estonia! It's a role model!
Estonian here before watching the video. I love Latvia. I've been there for 3 times. (I've been only to Latvia and Finland(2 times))😅 I didn't see anything wrong with it. I loved it.
I'll check it haha. I want to travel through the Baltic countries next yeart with my car. I was in Denmark this year for maybe 11 days, but I saw 2/3 of the whole state. Greetings from Poland!
@TheDymeR You're very welcome, justbuse the main roads - most of them have been redone on an unprecedented scale in the last decade. However take note, that Latvia is not the most sports-car-friendly and the best gems to visit are unuque hidden nature spots and preserves and countless bodies of water with some new tourist infrastructure in form of dreamy wild cottages and other places to stay. And our public transport is quite decent and widespread, at least better than you'd see anywhere in US. My city (Jurmala) has not only made it free for residents internally, they just made the rail trips to capital free too. And this old rail of ours just got the new trains last week, the first lot of entirely new trains with modern carriages since USSR times. Rail Baltic is under construction too, so soon you wouldn't need car to come here at all. We're lagging behind Estonia and Lithuania economically, because we were the most Russified and corrupt
If the Uk was split into urban and countryside you would need to re appraise and mark it much higher in my opinion .Foreigners look at England especially as London and the rest of the UK is as far from London in terms of culture and demographics as you will find anywhere in the world .
Totally agree. Even then I don’t think you can term London as depressing. It has a lot of places to visit, theatres, nightlife and some of the best shops. Only downside is it is expensive.
I think a fair appraisal of the UK would be a poor country for most people with inadequate public services, healthcare and housing, but with pockets of wealth here and there.
@@sproutandkidneysoup2296 I would agree to an extent but I think that people in London and the South East are unaware that in the North East of the country you can buy a perfectly decent 3bed semi for c£125k and when the MSM bang on about kids not being able to afford to get on the housing ladder they are talking about kids in those affluent areas of the country (rich in monetary terms but poor in social harmony and spending power)
In my opinion, many of the UK's disadvantages can be traced back to the increasing population, most of which is because of immigration, and drawn primarily to London, but even in the provincial town nearest to me, its character has changed in the last few years, such that one is as likely to hear a foreign language spoken by a supermarket customer and her children as English. And I can't even identify the language.
I think the UK placing was pretty accurate, but not because of the reasons given here. Firstly the free health care system is broken with unacceptably long waiting lists for many operations and staff morale is very low. Regarding quality of life, it varies exceptionally from region to region, unless you're rich (and admittedly many are), the quality of life due to high crime rates and a high cost of living makes London a great place to visit but a shit hole to live in. The same in Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Liverpool and Bradford ect. On the other hand there are some amazing places to live in medium size towns and surrounding areas which are both cultured and prosperous yet with a lower cost of living than London. I also think the bad weather reputation Britain has is grossly over exaggerated, the summers vary but there are always weeks when the sun shines and the weather is in the high 20's, it even reached 40 degrees 2 years ago where I live which is a village near Lincoln. Also the food takes a bad wrap here due to it's past reputation, today there is an excellent choice of high standard restaurants and pubs offering international cuisine today and is a far better standard than many mainland European countries.
Kazhakstan IS NOT in Europe. Look at a map. Itson the same latitide as India. Just because it is in the European Football Union ( UEFA ) it is not a part of Europe Geographically.
Learn geography before criticizing. Kazakhstan is 15% part of Europe. If the border between Europe and Asia is drawn along the Ural Mountains and the Ural (Zhaiyk) River, the European part of Kazakhstan includes the western (right bank) parts of West Kazakhstan and Atyrau regions (including the administrative centers of the Uralsk and Atyrau regions) with a total population of slightly less than 1 million people, which is more than the population of such European countries as Iceland and Montenegro. However, more often geographers draw the border along the eastern side of the Ural Mountains and Mugodzhar, the Emba River and the northern shore of the Caspian Sea.
This was the most stupid and unprofessional description of a country like Hungary. It can be seen from a distance of miles away that the author has never seen a live Hungarian in his life, he only repeats the lies, clichés and stereotypes launched in the public space by the internal and external opposition of the current government. In conclusion: this description has nothing in common with reality.
For normal man/woman the best country is his/her homeland, he loves it and don't so much care if some prices or services are lower or higher of its neighbors. He/she is not some kind of economical immigrant or tourist. If there are better examples, he tries to learn from them and to develop his country to the same or higher level, not to start packing her bags and to run to the "better place".
@zasmirko100: that is not true of everyone. I know people here who immigrated from other countries because they dislike or hate the country they were born in. This includes myself. I am now a proud naturalised citizen of the country which I migrated to 50 years ago, and which I love with all my heart. I loathe the country I had the misfortune to be born in.

And where exactly is Malawi? (Be honest with yourself without googling) It's okay not to know a country that has no meaning to you. I bet you wouldn't know where St Lucia or Burundi is either. At least if you didn't learn it with the goal of knowing every country in the world, believing that somehow knowing the name of a country will make you less ignorant of other cultures. Even though you don't know the culture at all and know nothing else about the country except the name, the flag, the capital and the location. It is embarrassing if you don't know the neighbouring countries (especially if there are only 2 of them), it is also embarrassing if you don't know the country you are currently at war with or supporting. It is also embarrassing not to know important historical countries, like Germany. It is also embarrassing not to know current superpowers, such as China or the USA. But you can't expect everyone in the world to know every country that is insignificant to them. What's the point if you have no idea what's going on in these countries? What about elections, economy and culture in Montenegro? Or what about all that in Malawi? Do you know? I bet a relatively large proportion of Italians don't know Montenegro either. Even fewer in north-western Europe will know Montenegro because it is not a neighbour. Besides, Montenegro was mentioned in the video. I don't understand your point.

I can't write anything about the migrants from the Orient and Africa. Because that's why my comment will be deleted. How can a European nation without housing for its own citizens be in the top 3? That's Ireland, and any housing "available" is priced obscenely high. This video is an example where the economic statistics overrule common sense.
Yes, this video was rushed and the analysis is shallow. But I think the ranking is mostly correct.
It seems like these statistics show only economy and culture things, but try to avoid mentioning real problems these countries are facing

We're incredibly pressured by a housing crisis, a severely inadequate health service, cost of living crisis and a government that doesn't care about any of these problems.
You’re really right👍

It’s true, I’ve been yelled a lot at in Switzerland just for not throwing the trash properly.

After 23 years of living in France, I haven't change my mind since 2002-2003 (it needs a certain time to understand better the mentality, to dig deeper into the system on social, political, structural level). one has to wonder in these comparisons that Finland is mentioned as having a dark and long winter, just as if Sweden, Norway and Iceland were somehow brighter and warmer...
The west coast of Norway is affected by the Gulf Stream with its føn wind, so that the warm and humid wind causes the most rain in Bergen in Europe (more than 200 rainy days per year). The same føn wind appears in Finland as dry and warm when moisture has rained on the Norwegian coast and mountains, so Norway is a wet and windy country and the amount of daylight is the same and even less in northern Norway than anywhere else in Finland.
@@peketee2278 Hi, you're incorrect in the claim that Helsinki is located 200 km further north than Oslo and Stockholm. These three capitals are basically on the same latitude (60° N). Just check the map! Coincidence?

2. Lake Balaton is the biggest lake in Central Europe, and a famous summer vacation spot nicknamed the 'Hungarian Sea'
3. Countless historic cities, castles, and natural wonders
4. Budapest is one of the best cities worldwide, featuring:
- the most quirky party district (Jewish Quarter)
- the best and largest collection of natural thermal spas (healthy, historic, ornate bathhouses that make it hard to choose between), in fact it's the #1 capital worldwide for geothermal water sources
- the most obvious kind of porn is actually architecture (but that's a good thing, as Anthony Bourdain puts it)
- some of the biggest festivals (Sziget) and other unique forms of entertainment, including a Spa-Party, or 'Sparty'
Depression is indeed an important aspect to consider when discussing Iceland and its quality of life. Several factors might contribute to higher rates of depression in Iceland:
Long, Dark Winters: Due to its northern location, Iceland experiences very long and dark winters.
Americans always say offensive stereotypes about Europe, but meanwhile, they spend their vacations here and think it's the most wonderful place.🤨⁉️
Because they are self centered and jealous of our heritage
As someone from El Salvador I would love to live anywhere in Europe even if some of their citizens call their countries horrible like the ones in the balkans and eastern europe.
Trust me it's paradise if you get paid in Switzerland and live in Cyprus or Rhodes, Greece or Prague.
You are Italian but you don't know Rome
Almost 25 different ways to say "glass of wine" 🥂 cheers to all and have a great 2024
I'm from Portugal and agree, Italy feels very much like home whenever I go there.
Latvian here, the road situation is improving slowly but hopefully the government will also boost the public transport as well as cycling.
Very happy about Estonia! It's a role model!
Estonian here before watching the video.
I love Latvia. I've been there for 3 times. (I've been only to Latvia and Finland(2 times))😅
I didn't see anything wrong with it.
@@dannydetonatorwhy russification is the reason that Latvija is behind others Baltic countries ? Is something special with russians?

How about world-class cliffs? 😂
Yeah, it being a NATURAL FORTRESS was literally the whole point, lol. Not many nice gentle beaches there.
@@Merecir exactly!
"The UK has great free healthcare"😂
true
@@TinaW-ti7xu Not free paid by National Insurance and not great.
Free healthcare in Uk = long wait times, impossible to get to a doctor, likely going to die before reaching a hospital.
BS
I feel embarrassed for whoever made this video.
Tons of stereotypes. Your list is garbage
@@Flores573 15% is not 100%
@@Flores573 It is about Geography not Populations. Only 15% does NOT make it a part of Europe. The same as Turkey is not really Europe.
I think you mean longitude
@@robinhazell6019 Then why Cyprus is in Europe and the EU if they are entirely in Asia?
This video is like how to offend the whole continent
The right not to be offended does not exist. The problem of this video is the stupidity and ignorance, not the possible offense it causes.
Thank you for this comment.
Great comment, very true
@zasmirko100: that is not true of everyone. I know people here who immigrated from other countries because they dislike or hate the country they were born in. This includes myself. I am now a proud naturalised citizen of the country which I migrated to 50 years ago, and which I love with all my heart. I loathe the country I had the misfortune to be born in.
@@mfjdv2020Exactly! Look at politics for example. As a half Dutch/half Moroccan man with a Filipina wife and a Czech cat, who lived 25% of his life 'abroad' (I do identify foremost as European, so I didn't 'really' live 'abroad) and who lives now in leftwing Catalonia. There is no way at all that I would ever go back to the Netherlands. I don't know those people, including my own blood family, anymore. I even changed my name, not officially, into a Spanish version of my first names.
This video is total nonsense and should be avoided. It's also way out of date with recent events.
Sorry but "most of you probably never heard about Montenegro" says a lot about the geographical knowledge of americans. I (italian) already learned about this at the age of 8 or so
Tell me about Toledo, Ohio, Mr. Italian Genius
Montenegro is an independent Country with its own language (Montenegrin), whereas Ohio is just a State, part of a Country. They speak English in Ohio (at least very basic English), don't they? Can you grasp the difference between a US State and an independent Country, genius? You are hopeless and have just proved Matti's point.@@haroldcampbell3337
@gogogogohjh well said !
@Matti005 you're absolutely right. Most Europeans have heard of Montenegro.
And where exactly is Malawi? (Be honest with yourself without googling)
It's okay not to know a country that has no meaning to you.
When you were talking about Spain (I'm Spanish) and you said "siesta" it got me dying 🗣🗣
