I went through a red phase in my decor going back to the 80’s and it’s never going to show it’s ugly head again in my home Lol 😂, I just purchased two beautiful Boucle chairs for our tv room and the shop assistant said to my husband that they’ll be lovely to sit on and his reply back to her was, She’s Only Purchasing Them For A Decor Piece of Furniture Lol 😂, I Won’t Be Allowed To Sit On Them Lol 😂 and he’s Right Lol 😂, they’re filling a space I wanted these chairs for some time…I love your decor ideas V, you’ve inspired me so much, more than you know and more than my hubby’s wallet wants to know Lol 😂. Cheers from Queensland Australia ⚫️⚪️🟤🏧🆘😂🥰🥰🐨🦘just wanted to come back and add that here in Australia, we entertain mostly outdoors and have gardens around our homes, or I do, I love spending time out in my garden just about every day, we’re in the process of redesigning our garden that sits in our house yard, we have three sections of garden and I absolutely 💯 love getting out there, it’s a reflection of the inside of our home bringing it to the outdoors. 🌳🌲🌿☘️🌼🌸🌺🪻🌾🌻🌞

I have soft blues, greens and tans in my LR and DR. I got a red flower pot and considered chucking it out the window to get rid of it in the fastest way possible. It can work with some color schemes, but not all, in my opinion.

YES! We've been doing the pop of red for a few years now - definitely not with anything permanent or expensive. It's pretty crisp though. I put out a pillow or two and I have a beautiful red bowl from Crate & Barrel from about 15 years ago. We also have a set of paintings in the living room that have red and mix in other colors from our palette. I think you can choose any pop of color over a neutral palette and it's going to look great! I love orange pops on a palette of warm grays and beige, and green with black, cream and white is chef's kiss!

Yes to red! But like you, I prefer to repeat a color a few times throughout a space. My red sofa in the TV/family space is the anchor to splashes of red throughout the lower half of the house... a red KitchenAid mixer in a mostly black and dark-wood kitchen; touches of red in the dining room through artwork and a rug, and a red/black/cream Moroccan rug in the living room. I love adding tiny touches of red here and there with a linen-covered coffee table book, a small vase, and one or two sofa pillows. It took some playing around, but I feel like the balance is perfect, and I love it!

Loved this discussion today! I fell over with the cherry blossom trend…. God gave me this as a symbol of hope and provision during a dark time of my chemo a few years ago, and cherry blossoms have been trending as that symbol for our family since then. My daughter just got married, and the theme? Large cherry blossom branches here and there. SO beautiful and personal. It just tickles me to see this as a decorating trend! (Also tickled by the red pops, the bookshelves, the gardens….all part of my life and home).

No, dont think I will do red. I had red kitchen walls as a newly wed, in our first home together back in the late 90's. Been there done that! 😅 Garden is the best thing. For all the senses. Especially for Scandinavians. Send a few thoughts for us tomorrow, we are having a cold 24 hrs from tomorrow afternoon, expecting a feet of snow! I cant wait until the sun warms up and the snow has melted! 🌱

Phyllis Diller had red, metal kitchen cabinets. For her, it was fabulous. Quite the kitchen in her very beautiful, Hollywood home. Today, I think red has to be carefully and skillfully done in a room. It stimulates appetite, so maybe red dishes. Was popular for dining rooms for awhile. Neutrals seem to be more desired now. Live with what you love. I am beginning to gravitate more toward soft colors with black accents.

I have some dark chocolate every morning with my cup of tea. I am looking for another bookshelf, I have accumulated so many books over the years. Some I take to a secondhand book store, but most are really hard to part with. Really looking forward to gardening this summer, I have lots of good ideas. Whatever I plant it needs to be deer proof, if there is such a thing! Lots of herbs and lavender will keep them away, which I love to plant.

No desire for the pop of red, as much as I like it in certain situations, I won't likely use it in my home. Not a book person except for design and art books so not building a library in my home, buy it, read it, pass it on, don't want them hanging around. Agree, every home needs at least one cozy chair. My home needs a real garden renovation too, planning it and waiting for the opportunity to create it.

That's crazy, it seems like a lot of the trends that you bring up are things that I have been searching recently for my own space or for future projects such as the cozy chair. I been looking for a comfortable and cozy accent chair that is visually "light weight"(maybe thinner legs) but something that looks like you want to curl up and read a book in for many hours.

I’ve always done red then I finally got rid of most of the red… I may do it in a few years, but not right now.. And I also wanted to say I was not a fan of decorating with black-and-white. I love to wear black-and-white but since watching Valentina i’m now in love with it and since I’m staging my home to sell I’m trying to go neutral. I’ve never been neutral kind of person. I’ve always been bright Bold, extreme, and flashy with green or red or purple but never white or or neutral and staging My house To sell has forced me to be neutral. I’m actually loving it. 🥰 I have also fallen in love with the cherry blossoms and I’ve always done Gardens. I think everybody should plant some thing no matter how small of a space they have to live in.

Hey Valentina! I love the bookshelf and garden trend. In fact, I started a garden patch of vegetables in a previous home that I once rented. But wish I could have taken it further with flowers and trees. Now that I am sharing an apartment with mother, we have so much light coming in from the Metropark Valley (by Rocky River Ohio), I will be sure to include some nice bloomers and maybe try a little fruit tree. Thank you for sharing.💝

Nina Campbell mentioned something similar to this on her interior design course on Create Academy. I think Nina said when she was researching Elsie de Wolfe who is the first first lady of interior design, Elsie said “Always have a red chair in a room because if you sit in it, the colour comes back to your cheeks and you look better.” I’m pretty sure it was words to that effect.
I think it depends on how you want to feel in your space and how you feel about the actual colour red. It is a powerful colour and it has to be balanced with other colours very carefully. If a balance is not achieved, then the red item will become the sole focal point in the room.
Personally, I think red is great as an accessory especially as a seasonal one. I personally associate red with autumn and winter. A vase with burgundy eucalyptus leaves, or donkey tail or dark red/plum Birch branches can look very autumnal. Clean, simple, structured red rose arrangements can look chic and very wintry, as can a deep berry red orchid. For summer, I think it makes a great sideboard or kitchen food accessory berries on a platter. Strawberries served in a beautiful dish on a drinks tray or better still a few little Rossini cocktails lined up can add a pop of red.
I want my home to feel serene, soft, soothing, sensuous, mellow, comfortable and calm, like a warm snuggle on a snowy day. Red is beautiful but it is an active, dynamic, intense, bold, energising colour and for a person who loves constant stimulation or a dynamic/lively/rich home or Georgian/Victorian/Edwardian interiors this would be a super choice.

I think a dark red, smaller decor with your black and white home would bring in more warmth. I'm not into red furniture though, so I would never buy a red couch lol I think if you go red, there's no in between. You either go big or small. You look fantastic in red, it's a pity you don't wear it often.

I groaned when I first started hearing about the red trend. I used to have red items in my living room & they tied in to a large piece of art I had over my tv. When I moved in Jan, I donated that piece of art & decided I was not putting red anywhere in my new apartment. 😂😂 My base colors here are black & blue with some green (plants) here & there & a little purple in the main bedroom & a little pink in the spare room (mostly because those colors are in art I have). As for the book wealth, I’ve always had books. My bookcase was built by my great uncle & is a non negotiable for me. It’s full of my favorite books & I’m now trying to decide where I can fit another bookcase in here for the rest of my collection. 😎

I have teracotta pillow, plant with bright red in their leaves in white pot with teracotta color details, and red tea-candles. I also just saw beautiful cream and black coffeetable books with red titles, that I thing of buying. They are actualy empty, and they are photo albums, so you can put in anything

I am having breakfast at the moment while watching this and the funny sound of “getting up from the chair” made my day😂 Keep spreading laughter. Do you have a bible in your bookshelves? That would be awesome too. 😊 Is it possible to share tips on a narrow entryway with a stairway railings at the right side and a living area at the left side in an open space?

I have some pink cherry blossoms in a vase. That's about as close to the red I'll go. 😂 I used to have lots of red in my house, and I feel it makes it look cheap. Just my opinion. Red is still my favorite color. I just won't use it in my house. ❤

I adore red! We have a raspberry sofa (and have had for about 2 decades) and we also have a rich red shade on the walls in our family room.

Totally agree…don’t the red in home but in fashion it’s ok.

I would most definitely put a red flower like a fresh flower not fake in my home but that’s it. That’s where I draw the line.

I don’t care for red in general, but I do like burgundy. I doubt I’ll bring red to my house though.

Not into red myself, my mother in law does a great job with burgundy in her amazing area rug, that rug is really nice and at least fifteen years old. She has timeless dark brown leather furniture in a newer home with lots of light. She does a great job with decor and color. It is her color however, she wears it and her car is also burgundy.

Is there actually a list different than” Books, Flowers and Chocolate “? I have to have these 3 in my daily life. I actually have anxiety if I don’t have a new book to read. My mom taught me to read before school and I did the same for our daughter and son. The first thing I received with my name on it was a library card. When my parents retired they traveled North America in their RV. Everyone used her as our book mobile. Turning in a bag of books and taking one donated by another each time they would swing by our area. Books are the number one gift in our family even as our children are now 39 and 37 years old.

We did a red bathroom when we first moved into our house a couple years ago. It’s a small powder room with black and white photos taken in Spain and a black& white Spanish tile. It looks pretty cool, but lately I was thinking I was tired of the red. BUT… I’ll wait it out now, since it’s in fashion. :)

I’m not a red person, so I also won’t be jumping on the red theory trend. But I love the idea of a cozy chair in a library.

I have always hated the color red. Literally always. I am and will always be a lover of black. I can barely get through valentine day because red is everywhere. 🤣🤣

I bought Afloral cherry blossoms last fall after you recommended them, and they are still amazing looking!
OOh, love the idea of a wellness garden. How do I xeriscape that?

All red tiles in the shower? It gives me vibes from Dracula movies, or the film "Psycho". Might be my morbid imagination. :)

I have fresh cherry blossom branches in my vase right now (which I bought), and how I wish I had bought faux blossoms instead, so that I could arrange them more attractively. For the last three days I have been snipping, pruning, and rearranging the branches in my vase in an attempt to make them look how they do in the magazines!

I incorporate red with a touch of terra-cotta not everywhere just a pop here and there and not every room. My bathrooms are very neutral, black and white but I did added terra cotta in my plant pots in each one. Does that count as “red”?
