  • How Would The United States Fight A Nuclear War?
    Why might a nuclear war start? What could push someone to make the unimaginable decision to launch such devastating weapons? In this video, we'll explore how the United States might respond if faced with a nuclear conflict.
    The U.S. nuclear defense is based on the "Nuclear Triad." This means there are three ways to launch nuclear weapons: land-based missiles, submarines, and strategic bombers. This setup ensures that if one or two methods are compromised, the U.S. can still retaliate.
    First, there are 400 Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) in silos across states like Montana and North Dakota. These missiles can be launched within minutes and have a range of over 13,000 kilometers. Interestingly, there are also 50 empty silos used as decoys to confuse enemies.
    Second, the U.S. has 14 Ohio-class submarines armed with Trident II missiles. These submarines are stealthy and can stay underwater for up to 90 days. Each carries up to 20 missiles with incredible accuracy, capable of hitting targets within 100 meters even from thousands of kilometers away.
    Third, strategic bombers like the B-2 Spirit and B-52 Stratofortress can deliver nuclear bombs stored at various military bases.
    If a rogue leader ordered a nuclear strike against the U.S., early warning systems would detect it. Satellites like the Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) can spot missile launches almost instantly by detecting the heat from their engines. Ground-based radars confirm the threat to reduce false alarms.
    The President would have about 10 to 15 minutes to decide on a response. The decision is communicated through secure channels using the "football," a briefcase containing strike options and authentication codes. If the President is unable to act, the chain of command passes to the Vice President or another designated leader.
    Historical plans like the Single Integrated Operational Plan (SIOP) showed the devastating potential of nuclear war during the Cold War. Simulations suggest that a full-scale nuclear conflict could result in millions of deaths within hours and long-term catastrophic effects like nuclear winter.

      Exactly. There would never be "just one warhead launched" anywhere, by anyone. Everyone's ICBMs and SLBMs have multiple warheads each (even if each missile has 3-4 warheads with a couple hundred kilotons yield per each, which they may or may not be reduced to nowadays with arms reduction treaties and agreements, it's surely sobering and scary enough to think about). Realistically any launch in anger from a country and the following retaliatory launch(es) from the other country or countries once the first missile is detected in the sky (most likely would be multiple countries launching their missiles because of agreements and treaties and pacts for allies to help each other in the event of an attack) would be an exchange of a WHOLE LOT of missiles sent from each side, that is to give the greatest chance of a higher number of warheads actually reaching their intended targets to achieve maximum effect, because some of them would possibly either fail or likely be intercepted by different weapon systems and taken out before reaching their target. No matter what, the whole idea of this is seriously scary and a very dismal thing to think about ever happening to humanity in our lifetimes. Nobody actually wins. One thing that truly scares me is nuclear war, plain and simple.

The US population up to approx. 40% would survive, but the rivals would disappear. And then you can start all over again, but without opponents and enemies. In reality, this is the deep American attitude. Kennedy was shocked by the thought. That is why the USA has a president today, who is not at all shocked by such thoughts. I'm honestly worried for the time that someone like Kim or Putin are on their deathbed for natural causes, whether sickness or old age, and out of pure spite decide to launch all their nukes because they have nothing to lose. It's not like they're the type of people who care about anyone else, including their own people. The thought that they have the power to end the world at any moment, especially if they know it's close to their last moments, terrifies me.

    • @JM57-99
      @JM57-99 Місяць тому +15

      I'm sorry but that sounds like a heavily propagandized paragraph, and it ignores the reason why North Korea and Russia developed nukes in the first place.
      The US developed the bombs first, so what did they do? Use them. Then they considered using them in the Korean war, but ultimately decided not to, by then the USSR was already on the nuclear arms race. Many years later the US would succeed in de-nuclearizing Libya, and then its government was overthrown and now it's under a state of constant instability and missery, a model that some officials proposed for North Korea during the Trump administration.
      So when you are able to develop nukes, show them off when you're not doing good, scare the crap out of the biggest superpower on Earth (who you know will make all its citizens just as scared with the help of the media), and get to negotiate with them without even de-nuclearizing in the end, suddenly Kim Jong-un looks like the most sane and predictable man alive.
      But somehow thousands of pagers belonging to Hezbollah members in Lebanon had bombs planted in them and no one is concerned about the technology we're consuming.

    • @shinobu1886
      @shinobu1886 Місяць тому +6

      @@JM57-99 It is simply a logical theory and/or valid concern, not a propagandised theory, be for real. It never ignored the reason nukes were invented at all. Additionally not a single thing you said is relevant to my main point nor does it disprove my scenario.
      It’s was a very simple concept. Kim Is unhinged, perhaps not so unhinged to destroy the world while he’s in good health enjoying his life while his people are living hell, but a deranged Pos nonetheless. And this isn’t propaganda, a shred of common sense, knowledge and research can tell you how evil he is. “Reason” can go out the window if he’s on his death bed, has nothing to lose and wants to go out with a bang. He has that power and that alone is scary. Even if there is some sort of confirmation process “requiring” multiple other officials to sign off and confirm the launches and they don’t want to, what are they going to do? Refuse? I’m sure they won’t be quickly assassinated with a backup replacement already in place for a failure to comply.
      Perhaps Putin might be a little less sadistic and maybe even care for his people’s future somewhat. I wouldn’t put it passed him completely either but it might be a little less likely. At the end of the day, it’s merely a reasonable concern, maybe such a thing won’t happen with them or in our lifetime. But the idea that such things that can destroy the majority of the world at any moment exists and any future leader/dictator can have the power to do so is scary nonetheless.
