I have this think Aihana's power is connected to the concept of true self and this is my theory: the root of esper powers the way I see it is the concept of "true self" Magician has this "Ideal Self" (while transcendent gets their power by embodying a stronger "self" rather than their own basically losing themselves into the power) which they take power from a name that represents their deepest wish while Epser manifest their "True selves" via esper powers(meaning that their ability mostly got influence by some unknown criteria) my original theory is Aihana might be able to help others get into their "true self" by lessening it like "I want to become stronger so that I can protect others" to "I want to get stronger" but it might be that he can actually "read" the "true self" of other people and be able to help them Now if that's the case it'll really be good if Aogami is infact number 6 and him befriending both Tsuchimikado and Touma is a result in him understanding them and genuinely liking them but fir different reason Tsuchimikado knows darkness and knows it's value but his heart remains in the light while Touma is the unrelenting light Or basically if Aihana is Aogami both him and Tsuchimikado are lawful evil while Touma is the Chaotic Good Touma attracting them cause of their difference while they stick cause of how similar they are with each other Also that makes the Delta trio have strong powers but not offensive one is immortal that can use magic but will hurt him, one is basically a normal guy with an ability of negation also has a menagerie of being but needs to get his arm cutoff before they can even be let out, and one possibly being a level 5 but has not offensive ability and only has support ability
If Ihana’s power is future sight, then his ability of “turning a person to an ideal version of themselves” could be him looking in to the person’s future and seeing what the person can do/change in order to achieve their full potential? Also if the ability is future sight, then the aura he seems to possess could be a result of it, because anything in his proximity may alter be altered by him, and the world is not certain what form will the area around him will become, kind of like a blind spot of fate.
Wow, talk about information overload. We really got a lot out of this story. Seeing more information of the mysterious Aihana Etsu really got me intrigued. I would love to see that particular story line revealed and fully unraveled. As much as I ate to say it, Mugino self fulfilled the prediction of someone betraying her group, in the most lethal of way to boot. I love the redemption arc and the team together again, but she really did go off the rails and paid for it. I really do believe this would make an amazing anime, although i doubt we ever get it. Thanks for telling the story and look forward to more.
This volume gave so much more on Aihana and that’s probably my favourite part about it. It didn’t give us their identity but we do know a bit more then before like the fact that Best Doggo and Aleister want them gone and thanks to Mental Out we know Aliester has knocked off other level 5s in the same fashion if they step out of line as we saw what happened to the previous Number 1. So we now know WHY Aihana hides their identity.
It can even be that Aihana is another resident of the imaginary district. Btw does Aleister not know Aihana's true identity? He was the board chairman and had access to all the information through the city and if Aihana is registered as an esper he should have had his information.
Pretty sure Aleister knows. He spies on the entire city 24/7 with UNDERLINE, and if Aihana Etsu's real identity is in a classified part of the Bank then Aleister has access to it.

And even Alice mentioned the number 6 when talking to Kamijou Touma in (GT5 chapter 2.Between the Lines 3) [ Alice sighed. “The girl’s magic forces all of those things to work.” “Magic?” “Ah ha ha. Did you think it was an esper power? Like the #6 who you can’t see clearly?” He was curious why Alice sounded so knowledgeable about that, but he was more interested in a different question.... ] Even though Alice has never met number 6, she knows who number 6 is, showing that strong people like Alice know number 6.and the secret of number 6 cannot be hidden from the eyes of powerful entities😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Going back to this after reading the novels and Item. I think it’s fear manipulation. They force people to confront their personal fears while it’s in the form of Aihana. All their fears, doubts, paranoia, issues, and regrets all gets compressed into a near invincible illusion. Forcing you to self destruct, or accept it and become a better person. A better you. The main character of your own story. Which means when he was prophesying that Shizuri would get betrayed. Aihana never said that. Mugino’s own subconscious thoughts said that while wearing Aihana’s mask.
I'm definitely seeing Aihana's ability as determining a person's possible futures and somehow somehow programming the steps to achieve the optimal outcomes into that person, hence they become their "ideal self". Aihana essentially sells people their own personal "hero's journey", as we can see with what happened with Kanou Shinka in NT12. Kanou accepted Aihana's name to achieve one goal, but instead achieved an entirely different and more substantial goal while also growing as a person. It really was the best possible outcome for him, and he certainly became closer to his ideal self in the process. Aihana's perception distortion trick could be anything, since we know so little at this point. It might be a result of Aihana overlapping someone's perception of multiple possible timelines, it could be related to the mechanics of implanting the "success programming" into someone's mind, or it could just be a special tool that they use, unrelated to their ability.
Haven't read Index in years (due to making my own setting lol), though Aihana's power sounds like Frame manipulation. Frames in the respect of frames of reference to physics or whatnot, with the limitation he can't set himself as the reference point and therefore must use external factors such as the world or other people.

Frames may be what he manipulates, though the ability to manipulate Relativity (in the conceptual sense, not physics, to control the relativeness of x to y, z , etc) would be just as fitting, with the exception he couldn't apply it directly to himself. At that as long the right conditions are met he can effect anyone or anything outside of himself, which would play into his passive tactics to avoid becoming a known variable (i.e. his real identity being revealed).
On that basis it might be like measure heart, but rather than controlling the scalar emotional distance between two people it controls the coordinate relatedness of systems external to himself.
The ability to sees someone's fate is incredibly huge especially when it comes to being able to give others the ability see the ideal version of themselves. I have a theory that Aihana is secretly trying to make use of this power by trying to eradicate all of dark side's work in a name of justice mainly from his old life being taken away or murdered by Academy City's dark side members or Higher ups and wants to destroy it all without being discovered almost as this string of fate that wants nothing but to bring karma to all that choose wrong actions. GT2 gave us a good look on that with touma which seems he wants to bring justice to Academy City but can't cause his power can only do so much just like how Touma can't always solve every solution on his own. If Aihana's character keeps up this Count of Monte Cristo route he might be my favorite Level 5 in the story.
I'm a supporter of Aogami= Aihana theory but I have a different reasons why I genuinely believe in this Fukiyose Seiri is Touma's Anchor to Normalcy if she's on screen it will depicts the Normal life of Touma(this has only been violated a few times with Othinus, and sportfest for example) so this might actually be a foreshadowing of Aogami being involve with "non normal life" stuff Touma has been or will encounter on the future(also it'll actually be acceptable if Seiri won the Touman's heart in the end cause of the Normalcy anchor thing if you live as chaotic life as Touma and knowing Touma he loves his Normal life more than anything else so marrying the symbol of it makes sense poor Himegami thought if that happens)
Honestly my best guess is Aihana’s powers are based on perception. Like how only Mugino was able to notice them, affecting a target’s perception to disguise their appearance seeming warping space around them, affecting a target’s accuracy so their powers would deflect around them, able to perceive the future of someone, lending someone their name so others perceive them as Aihana, and let Aihana use their powers to transform into what they perceive others into their true, ideal self. Granted shot in the dark for the most part.
Guys I think his ability is able to Censored the Reality. Such as Censored the property weight of a car to become light or Censored the 5 sense. Or even blur object or a person face.

To be honest, I just think his power is to control illusions it's only fitting that the ultimate enemy in the franchise is the one that could oppose Touma, imagine breaker the power to brake illusions so why not have a power to oppose that to create illusions the only thing that's stopping this theory is the fact that he can predict the future, but also that makes the connection with him being Aogami stronger because when they first met up again he predicted that Touma lost his memories

I think his ability is some kinda perception manipulation which explains both his space manipulation is more hallucination, how nobody else noticed him, Mugino's beams missing him could be similar to trick art, and him turning people into an ideal version of themself could be similar to the Level Upper with him being the nexus of the network.

Because the future is unknown since it hasn’t happened yet, it almost looks like you are confronted the uncertainty principle where the potential ”best self” is hidden in the future. You have abilities like thoughtography that look like they are passive but are also active because the person taking a picture using this ability would technically be making a change to the film on the camera roll producing the product image. I feel like aihana’s ability is like this. A precognition ability incorporating a manifestation or even creation of the ideal self. Didn’t mugino’s Meltdowner break apart before hitting aihana? To aihana not being hit by mugino’s Meltdowner was the optimal or “best” future for him.

Its crazy how many plot armor Touma has for dying many time and been revive many times but still was fate to die on GT10. The enemy need to go through many simulation to destroy Touma plot armor. Touma even has already been warn by Aihana Etsu about his way of doing thing eventually will bring himself to his demise.
Dude the only times he die many times is against Othinus and she revived him many time to torture so it doesn't count as true death. This is like his second time dying in gt 10
