What’s hard to understand? It’s just not a very accurate way to look at things. If the “moderates” all lean left and most the cities there still lean left, than looking at the state as a whole doesn’t really give you too much information. Don’t be a fan boy and think just because someone didn’t enjoy the same video they’re dumb, that’s a pretty dumb way to think anyway

I will say as a independent, theres pros and cons of both liberal and conservatives states. But overall there’s less overbearing government regulation and an easier lifestyle in conservative states. Liberal states tend to have an insane amount of government regulation in every aspect of life and high taxes. They may try to appeal to a broader group of people compared to conservatives states but if you want to raise a family, save up money or have a better cost of living, go to a conservative state.

This is why those who advocate splitting the US into a Red (conservative) USA and a Blue (liberal) USA are not being practical. Even the most conservative states (Alabama & Louisiana) are at 50% conservative, and the most liberal states (Massachusetts at 36% and Vermont at 35%) are short of a majority. It also shows that elections are decided by the moderates, depending on which party is able to pull in more moderate votes that election. Even a solid red state like mine - Arkansas - where conservatives are at 38% and liberals at 14%, conservatives are only 7% higher than California's 31% conservative number. Finally, it shows that if someone were able to field a competitive party that was politically between the two major parties, it could be a huge factor in future elections.

@mikecollon100 after moving to Maine 5yrs ago I can understand the low crime rates. The culture here is very supportive with strong sense of community. Neighbors help each other & communities are concerned about those in need. People want social programs to those less fortunate.
If your car breaks down you won't have long to wait until someone pulls over to help or at least offer a warm place to wait. I watched a old man's truck slide into a covert last winter. A pickup truck pulled over took out chains & towed him out. I was told everyone keeps this stuff just in case someone needs help
I had my lawnmower break down when we first moved into the home. I had 3 people pull over to help & get it going within 30 minutes. But the over grown field would be to much for my mower. The next day neighbors I hadn't even met yet showed up to brush hog / mow my field. Word gotten out we needed help.
Maine has poverty especially in northern & tribal areas. Local governments & community groups work hard to help. Maine has a housing issue just like the rest of the country. Shortage of inventory of affordable housing either; rents or starter homes. Especially in high demand areas such as Portland.
New homeless shelters & rehabilitation addiction center have been built to deal with this issue. It's still a slow work in progress for rent control & building more affordable housing. But at least it's being addressed & not ignored
Maine does have force institutional mental health hospitals for the severely affected. The severely mentally ill aren't living on the streets.

I define liberals as those focused mainly on liberating us from the worst ideas of the past, and conservatives as those focused mainly on conserving the best ideas of the past. They'll never agree on where to draw that line, but politics is a guitar-string stretched between the two, and on that ever-shifting tension thrums the music of democracy. We need both to make music at all. And moderates are the ones doing the strumming, making it all work.
But lately both sides have been twisting up the tension so much that the string's threatening to snap, and the moderates have gone into hiding. In the past I have had no problem living in conservative areas. I usually get along, as a liberal-leaning moderate who tries my best to politely listen. But these days, when I get accused of no longer being human because I got vaccinated, and when fast food restaurants get death threats for offering a veggieburger, I just plain don't feel safe in conservative states anymore. Just the other day a relative called me a demon just because I said that even though I dislike Trump he deserves a fair trial--she considered it satanic to dislike him. People have gone nuts, so I choose to live where the nuts are least likely to take exception to my existence.

Some thoughts on the polling behind this video:
    1) Polling is getting harder and harder as more and more people do not have home phones and screen calls....
    2) More and more people are rejecting labels - many Trump supporters would (correctly IMHO), not view him as conservative and many on the left would reject the "liberal" label. Moderates often are indeed usually left of center, but viewing themselves as moderate when they are objectively liberal in their voting and views.
    3) Another factor is who actually votes.
    4) Finally, there is the politics of the rich in each of these states. Their money goes to candidates they favor, either directly or indirectly. This has a huge effect. California would not be nearly as liberal if the billions in contributions (almost exclusively to liberal Dems) did not flow in from Hollywood and Silicon Valley.
I'm sure that when Briggs does a video on the most conservative states, we will see something like the reverse.....

If ‘moderates’ always or mostly always vote for the Democrat/Liberal party they aren’t really straddling the two main parties they are really Democrats just slightly more moderate than the middle of the party. The same is true for independent moderates that mostly vote for Republicans/Conservatives. From a practical point that means the states you’re talking about today are primarily Democrats/Liberals.
