yeah, no A24 was saying it is going to make a movie but turns out it's just a web series. the web series by kane pixels is now considered official and is owned by A24, they just help kane to make his videos now. thats the only difference. basically there is now a label on an already ongoing web series that kane pixels was making and is still working on
never been a fan of horror, especially horror indie, but i can see why this movie is so divisive. many people want the classic jumpscare horror or the explicitly psychological horror, but skinamarink apparently does something different also your script-writing is improving!
I honestly think the scariest scene for me was just the girl sitting towards the TV. I think it’s crazy how they made the back of someone’s head so terrifying
Very well put Mr. Orange! For me this type of horror will always be the most potent. Experimental, crude, and creative visuals. With an emphasis on what could be rather then what is shown! This movie sounds like one hell of an experience! Imma have to check it out for sure.. but as a fellow recurring nightmare child, I may poop my pants Absolute banger vid as always man!!
I love the movie, I think it's truly unique and I love the director, but it didn't scare me as much as it would have. I heard about it on twitter at first but couldn't find it anywhere (this was right when it was first releasing in film festivals) so I decided to watch some videos on Kyle's channel to try and get a feel for what the movie was like. I ended up watching his short film Heck, which is sort of a predecessor to Skinamarink, as it has a similar concept. I also watched his video about the Three Kings Game because it was based on a creepypasta. But Heck scared me more than I could ever imagine. It's heartbreaking, terrifying, and made me feel uncomfortable and claustrophobic the entire way through. For the next two or three weeks I couldn't look at the floor of my room while I was in bed with the lights off, because it reminded me of the shots from the film. I'm sure Skinamarink would have done the same to me if I hadn't experienced Heck before watching it. When I finally watched Skinamarink (I watched it in my bedroom with headphones and with the lights off to get a better experience), the scares and atmosphere didn't impact me as much because in both of those shorter videos Kyle made the scares/shots were very effective, but I saw a repeat of them in Skinamarink (such as the chair on the ceiling and the final shot). I don't want to compare Heck and Skinamarink too much, as they're both great in their own right, and I don't want to make it seem that one is better than the other. However this doesn't take away from being able to appreciate everything it does as a horror film. Warping the house, something many people, and especially children, see as a safe space, into something unfamiliar and malicious is such an effective horror trope that I do not see enough of. I think Skinamarink is the closest thing to a House of Leaves movie adaptation because of this. There's a lot more I could dive into but I'll leave it there. It might not have stellar reviews, and it certainly isn't for mainstream audiences, but it is definitely a movie I'm going to treasure for a long time.
I DARE YOU TO WATCH THE LIVE ACTION PINOCCHIO MOVIE from 2019. My brother watched it and was traumatized, literally. Lucky for me, I wasn't able to go the movie theater that day 🥲
Also wth they’re making a Backrooms movie?
WHAT OH GOD
