Watching this in a crowded theater isn’t as scary as watching this at 3 am alone in your living room in pure darkness. It will traumatize me and I’m not sure I could do it. Imagine stumbling across a DVD of this when you’re 10 and watching it. Idk how it could get a PG rating at the one screening he mentioned. This movie could be life-changing therefore a masterpiece. I think 20 years from now we’ll be calling this a horror classic.
I did this. Streamed it on Shudder. It was about 2 AM. My wife went to sleep, so I was alone and turned the lights off. I was tired but watched the whole movie. It was a hard watch. The ending really got me.
Legitimately one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. It is unlike any movie I have watched and really gives you the feeling of being a helpless child caught in a nightmare. I cannot stop thinking about it. Phenomenal.
I loved Skinamarink.. it was the most inventive movie I've seen in a while. Granted, I don't watch that many new movies but I was really pleasantly surprised to see someone do that atmospheric thing, still.
Congratulations, Kyle. You did it! I’m actually jealous of your creativity, genius, and of course, your movie. Fantastic. Be careful though. You know what they say about getting everything you want.
This is one of the most extraordinary films I've recently seen. I've watched it many times since first seeing it on Shudder a year ago while recuperating from a fall and bruised ribs. I was motionless throughout my first viewing. It was like nothing I'd seen and evoked memories of childhood and sleepwalking. I bought the Blu ray a month later and have watched it over and over and have my theories...which is one thing I really respect about this film. I see something new each time I see it and some things do....and a few don't support my ideas. Love that, but I understand everyone doesn't. I'd love to be in contact with Kyle but it seems impossible to do in social media.
I think over the years of being pushed high octane marvel movies and some of the tackiest films that the horror genre has ever produced, Edward-Bell's premier will be a catalyst for the cinema of the next wave in cinema. There are cities going through housing crisises due to the average pay of coders and alorithmic experts who are dedicated to capturing the attention of the viewer, and this fresh autor has accomplished a two-hour death grip with the cost of their rent, minus utilities. The pretenses of the film come from a bootstrap fantasy of a young director, using the little means he has, honing his skills through short films made to recreate his youtube subscriber's nightmares, and after an online leak, earns a deserving one million at the box office. Never heard or seen before in the modern era, this film provides liberation to small film makers and audiences alike! Bravo Edward Ball, from a fellow horror buff.
Kyle Edward Ball...... I have a strong feeling this man is just getting started. He is going to go places. Can't wait to see his future projects. Well done with Skinamarink man, that movie is eerie and skin-crawling in a way that no other movie has accomplished. I LOVE subtle horror, and this one is so unique and edgy. Not to mention controversial, I've never seen the horror community so divided about a horror movie before, not even with Paranormal Activity.
this is exactly what I’ve been searching for in a horror movie something to awaken that childhood terror, I’ve only had two types of dreams that ever terrified me, and alot of this hit me on my final nightmare. I awoke in my house but it belonged to my group home and the house for some Reason was my mothers in my dream. I remember the strange gloominess that lingered throughout the house, still bright but tinted gray. I walked from my room down the hall into the next room and the moment I walked through the door my eyes looked toward the corner, the only dark area in the room. All of a sudden my ears started sounding muffled as if I were riding in a car a long time and haven’t popped my ears yet, I would collapse to the ground and cover my ears screaming hysterically and the moment I released my scream I was fine. I stood up and turned around just to hear my younger sister screaming at the top of her lungs “Monster monster ghost ghost!” I ran into the next room to see my mother sitting on one twin bed starting down at the floor no expressions just a blank stare, my sister across from her throwing herself around in the other twin bed as if throwing a fit, her hand stretched out and pointing hysterically at the corner behind my Mother. I immediately turned seeing the darkened corner once again being the only source of darkness in the room, immediately my ears muffle and I drop to the door screaming as loud as I possibly could and then Immediate relief. I stood up perfectly fine again turning to leave the room, my mother and sister gone. I leave heading back down the hallway back toward the room I was originally in. The moment my feet stepped through the doorway I dropped to the floor collapsing my hands over my ears as the muffled sound filled my head loudly, all of a sudden the most deep terrifying voice bellowed from the shadow now over the entirety of the wall only four words and nothing more “SIT DOWN AND LISTEN!” I immediately awoke from my sleep screaming and covered in sweat. To this day it’s still the most terrified I’ve ever been and I’m still haunted about it trying to figure it out.
This film has the same affect as Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity- to an extent but wayyyy more terrifying in my opinion. The more you think about it and replay some of these scenes in your head while laying in bed at night really instill the horror and terror provided by this experience. And that’s what I would categorize this film as, an experience more than anything.
Had a friend at work mention this movie. Told her I haven't heard or seen any trailers about it so I looked it up. Ok, gonna see if I can find it when I get home and watch. Need to say,I was not disappointed. It is an acquired taste for sure. None the less I enjoyed it and will definitely add it to my collection
The fact that people either love this film or hate it is a good sign. I thought it was great and I appreciate filmmakers who are willing to take chances.
Skinamarink came from the 1910 play The Echo, we do know where THE ORIGINAL is from. It's not the Sharon ripoff. it's actually called Skiddy-Mer-Rink-A-Doo (1910)
Yeah going to watch #Skinamarink at around 10pm and coming out of the theater at around midnight…yup I fucked up 😳 good luck going to sleep 🫣 pretty sure this film will haunt me in my dreams 😱
i watched it at 3am all alone no lights on and i can say its the scariest film i seen yet coming from a 30 year horror film fan since the 90s! i dont want to compare it to excorcist but hey, skinamarink is the new scariest horror film yet!
"Horror is consentual." That's good! Which is why, even though I have anxiety, I love horror. It's controlled fear. As far as "Skinamarink," it's one of my favorite films! It reminds me of when I was a kid and I would wake up in the middle of the night and everything in my room looked creepy in the dark.
I didn't enjoy this movie, I appreciate it was done on a budget, but there was no story, just a bunch of jump scares and weird things never explained. Not as good as I thought it would be, and I love indie movies.
I don’t think the “story” is the point. I think it’s more about immersing the audience deeply into the confusion and uncertainty experienced by small children, especially in scary situations. There are some great theories out there on this film that further strengthened the experience for me. I understand that it’s not for everyone but I really appreciated it.
a PG rating in Alberta and a freaking 18 rating in England is not at all surprising lol Personally I think PG-13 works the best but depending on the individual child it's probably not going to be inappropriate for an audience younger than that. Might be hard for kids to hold their attentions though.
There’s a very real chance that even if you want to like this movie, you still won’t. I respect the attempt, I’m glad people are taking chances, and I’m not mad I saw it, but the percentage of comments I see all over the internet from people who were “terrified” or “disturbed” scare me more than the movie did.
It has offscreen violence and blood, they've probably seen worse, honestly. In that regard it's ok. HOWEVER, unless they're interested in an experimental film with a lot of "nothing" going on, don't bring them to watch this. They won't like it and they'll probably ruin it for those who are interested in the movie.
I think for the most part but it’s inferred that something very violent happens but this isn’t a gory movie, also could give them nightmares honestly it’s pretty disturbing
Pipe down with the brain to understand thing 🤦🏻♂️ this movie (if you can call it that at all) is the embodiment of the emperor's clothes it's literally nothing.... Yup it's really that bad and then people just hide behind the "well you just don't understand it" comment - but the fact is that there is nothing to understand it's shit thrown up in the air tossed around and shot right back in your face... 100 minutes of life you won't get back.. Go and watch paint dry it's more rewarding 👌🏻
If you thought this movie sucked, you're clearly lacking intelligence. I can understand not liking it, but to say it sucked means you can't see how it really is one of the most original horror films out there. If history has proved one thing for horror films, it's that making a good one is hard to do. I mean one that really scares you. Yes this requires a lot of patience to reach that point. But once you're there...once you've given yourself to the movie and allowed it to do what it's designed to do, then you're officially there and you will be terrified. This is definitely relatable on a nightmare level. The worst dreams I ever had always involved something I couldn't see, hiding in a dark room or spot in a corner or wherever.
Editor, Norm: I have to disagreee with this statement because there are many, very intellegent people that just won't connect with Skinamarink. That's fine! Kyle even says so in the interview. NBD. What sets Skinamarink apart from many others is the deep psychological space that it goes to in order to mine for horror. If you synch up with it, you are in for a treat. Many experimental films do this. Sometimes it hits, sometimes it doesn't. For instance; I find myself to be reasonably intellegent, but there was nothing about The Blair Witch Project that scared me. I still recognize it as an important and highly influential piece, but I didn't connect with the psychological tricks it was playing on the audience. The thing that should be praised is that someone tried something NEW, failure or not.
Its just done very differently. Its experimental. He knew some would hate it. Some would like it. He was prepared for it. Its fine if you didn’t like it. Its not main stream by any means. Its way different from most films. I hope i get brave enough to see it. It does have my interest

"Honestly, it struck a nerve with me."
Director:"Thank you."
People who love art and cinema would enjoy it
I loved Skinamarink.. it was the most inventive movie I've seen in a while. Granted, I don't watch that many new movies but I was really pleasantly surprised to see someone do that atmospheric thing, still.

yes indeed he made a film

12:45 - This has to be A24. There is no way A24 is going to let him slip through their fingers.
eh shudder
Either A24 or Neon

I smell a new cult classic
The fact that people either love this film or hate it is a good sign. I thought it was great and I appreciate filmmakers who are willing to take chances.
Great interview. Thank you.

😲 a bloody genius 👏
This movie made me so sad in the end. I just wanted the kids to be ok. To get out somehow
Yeah going to watch #Skinamarink at around 10pm and coming out of the theater at around midnight…yup I fucked up 😳 good luck going to sleep 🫣 pretty sure this film will haunt me in my dreams 😱

Kyle should get with Kane Pixels and do a project!
loved the film. what a nice fella!

i absolutely loved this movie.
Watched this movie 3 days ago, alone, at night and cannot stop thinking about it. So disturbing and terrifying. Well done, Ball.
What a great movie!!
His voice sounds a lot like Mr. Rogers at times.
Отличный хоррор! Респект режиссёру!
Personally loved it, I think this kind of movie is can be a real challenge to give yourself over to, but the payoff is worth it
Who is Joshua Bookhalter? i would like to know
Movie looks like the kid died and stuck another dimension
I didn't enjoy this movie, I appreciate it was done on a budget, but there was no story, just a bunch of jump scares and weird things never explained. Not as good as I thought it would be, and I love indie movies.
The story was pretty much what the filmmaker said at the beginning. The kids are alone and this entity starts to mess with them. It escalates.

What movie did he mention at 4:45?
‘Enys Men’ directed by Mark Jenkin
Enys Men. Written and directed by Mark Jenkin. It looks great.

almost like movies are subjective
Every scene it tried to terrify me it did, maybe you dont get scared by this type of horror but me and others were
This guy is really LUCIFER VALENTINE. Sorry all to break the secret identity, but check out the vomit gore trilogy. Sorry, Trevor!
Genius
Is this movie ok for teens?
It has offscreen violence and blood, they've probably seen worse, honestly. In that regard it's ok.

It was good but did not need to be that long at all. That's my only negative.
Not even a movie just a collection of unsettling images and sounds. One of the most boring things I’ve ever watched.
Like I say. You have to have ears and a brain to understand it.
Pipe down with the brain to understand thing 🤦🏻♂️ this movie (if you can call it that at all) is the embodiment of the emperor's clothes it's literally nothing.... I hate root beer, but that doesn't mean it's trash.

I was surprised. I went in thinking, this is gonna be bad. It was so good!
Movie so garbage man. It could’ve been better . Trash trash trash
The stupidest movie i've seen in 2023, an insult to the intelligence of the human being. Please don't do another one!!
i enjoyed it greatly. think it’s a hit or miss, but it’s got it’s niche.
This Is One Of The WORST Films I Have Ever Seen.

Why does this matter Garrett, my guy?
Are you commenting from two separate accounts? Lmao
Stick to avatar it’s probably more your speed
This is one of the best films I've ever seen.
