@@Gungeek Oh yes, but I think a kid should learn on a single shot so as not to get in the habit of a lackadaisical attitude toward marksmanship like I used to have. . . . actually still have. Later the kid should have fun with the semi.
Those are great shooters. I had one that had similar finish issues...I just rubbed it down with lacquer thinner and then gave it the linseed oil treatment and it turned out great.....no sanding or scraping.
My first rifle. Mines a normal 3 with smooth stock. Shoots great. I machined a rear peep site for it at work on the 5th axis machine. Real juxtoposition from what was around 70 years ago when it was made. I can shoot about 1." with it at 50 aiming at a 3" splatter target - a far cry from my 0.4" tika groups on 12x
its a pretty simple bolt. also im not sure if bolts from other savage model 3's would work or not and maybe some sold under the springfield name, they look very close just the bolt is a tiny bit different.
Good video, GunGeek, The Man with the Eye to Spot the Well cared For, older guns. ... A single shot .22 would be difficult to wear out during 10 life times. ... You've just got to love those old .22 single shots: so much character to them. I wish I'd learned to shoot with a single shot instead of a semi.
both can be fun :)

I have one but missing the plunger on the bolt .anyone have a complete bolt for sale ?

@Gungeek seems to be the outcome .gonna see if my buddy can machine me one

@Gungeek that's what I'm looking into as well .
@Gungeek also see if my old coast to coast bolt would work
Nice. Built back when a rifle like this was a utilitarian tool that worked for a living.
very true, and has held up pretty good :)
Nice 22. I had a 3D about 8 years ago. It was ok.
they are a no frills kinda thing :)
I get tired of listening to people run America down
what are you talking about?
