Gavin Harrison, now drumming for King Crimson. One of the greatest drummers to ever live. Do Arriving Somewhere but Not Here (live) next- won't disappoint.
This whole album is basically commentary on what it's like to be a kid in an era where parents let medication do the parenting for them. It's basically from the perspective of a medicated teen who is barely alive despite being healthy.
The vocalist is Steven Wilson. He has a nice catalog of solo albums out. May I suggest reacting to his video for the song “Routine”. It’s a beautiful song that evokes a lot of emotion. Many end up with tears in their eyes. Thank you again for giving us another Porcupine Tree reaction today.
Such incredible drumming by Gavin Harrison. Side note for you: studio version has Alex Lifeson playing the first guitar solo. Different from what was played here.
Haven't watched this yet, but I'm so glad you guys finally reacted to this song. My favourite PT song. And PT is my second-favourite band (behind Rush of course). Arriving Somewhere but not Here (live), Blackest Eyes (live), and Trains (studio version) are all good choices for your next PT reaction.
Cod philosophy is just another term for pseudophilosophy, or something that maybe seems smarter or deeper than it actually is. Or maybe something with no actual substance, since they also mentioned MTV. Great video, guys.
@Twin Ravens: Respectfully (not trying to be The Great Corrector), Steven.(the supreme musical genius of this planet) did not create every song by the mighty Tree. Chris Maitland: PT's first drummer, wrote solely "Light Mass Prayers", and the bandmates occasionally co-wrote songs with Steven.
Porcupine Tree, for all intents and purposes, is a solo act( with a phenomenal supporting cast !). The singer, Steven Wilson, writes ALL the songs.... I have, and still think you should react to the album Hand Cannot Erase by Steven Wilson...it inspired by a young lady who died in the middle of London, in her flat, and went undiscovered for over 2 years. She had friends and family who Loved her, but circumstances had left her cut off from them....the song "Routine" in particular is poignant, and the official video is VERY good....lots of emotion.
It's very misleading and very disrespectful to the rest of the band to call them a solo act. It was a "solo act" for two albums, without the input of the rest of the band (especially Richard) Steven would not be doing what he's doing now musically.
@@mzed561 No disrespect at all. The band contributed greatly, but the songs are all Stevens. No songs, no band . They would agree. That doesn't take away from the Chemistry amongst them.
@@RushFan-2112 no doubt, everyone contributes...and such is the way with many bands. That chemistry helps create sparks. But , at the end of the day, writing a memorable song is the hardest thing a musician does, regardless of technical ability. The world is full of talented musicians, prolific, gifted songwriters? Not so much.
@@6lillium A lot of songs aren't just from Steven, for example a great one which is Cheating the Polygraph was mostly written by Gavin. All the drum parts were written by Gavin, all the keyboard parts that Barbieri Plays in all songs were written by him, the same goes with the bass. Steven Wilson as any other composer just has the main idea and coodernates de development of her, the rest of the band still has the oppurtunity to create their specific parts by themself. Despite of Steven being the composer and the one who says that PT was only him, I think it's a bit disrespectful to say that.
@ Mzed! - What in the world is wrong with you and so many others who recommend "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" as a reaction song?! The answer: You evidently know little about the large P. Tree catalogue. "Arriving" is a good song for sure, but merely average at best by PT standards. I am thinking of several dozen Tree masterworks which are parsecs better. I will never understand why "Arriving" is so frequently recommended. Apparently it's a case of copycat-ism, wherein casual listeners see that comment posters have recommended a song, then they recommend it without exploring other and far superior tracks. You can do way better than that!

Gavin is the drummer for Pineapple Thief too, saw him last week and he is still as awesome as ever :)
Total agreement.... Harrison is an alien.
Gavin Harrison is indeed a brilliant drummer!

Reacting to Porcupine Tree.... I'm impressed 👍! Great song, great band!
Fear of a Blank Planet is a must for you counselors -- maybe the entire album

"The Raven that Refused to Sing" is another beautiful Steven Wilson song.
There were two vocalists. Steve Wilson and John Wesley. Each are equally vital to PT.
Thank you for this amazing reaction. Their is plenty more great material from PT for you to discover. Looking forward to the next one.
great reaction as always next
arriving somewhere but not here (live)
greetings from greece

John Wesley does his own interpretation for sure but it's not all that different.

I've never seen anyone react to Even Less either. This is a good live version: ua-cam.com/video/_BLJPCcjg7I/v-deo.html
Amazing performance 🔥Good reactions Enoma👍

Not that familiar with their music but this song ROCKS.
16:50 No, it's not like Pink Floyd. It's very much like King Crimson's "Starless".
They may have never heard Starless. I think the Floyd comparison is apt.
Kudos from ATL ! 👋

@@6lillium In any case, the songs aren't ALL Steven's - Bonnie the Cat comes to mind as an example of one where Gavin's drum part was written first.
