I think most of us struggle with our edges to be honest but I guess we could start improving with this challenge

I'm joining! Or rather, I'm continuing. I've recently experienced hair loss because of postpartum shedding and life stress. And a bad reaction to a new hair loss spray (ha ha). I'm managing to do well. I'm adding ayurveda to my routine and more focused treatments.

yaaaay!!! to joining… am sorry about your hair loss but the good thing is that postpartum shedding isn’t a permanent thing so your hair will bounce back

Hi Pi, you know when people complain about receding hairline, it's tiring when it's not caused by a healthy related issue/age. Most of the time, it's their fault. Nobody wants to understand/believe or rather care that that hairstyle isn't healthy for the edges, it has to be sleek to be accepted or the stylist wants his/her work to be admired and gives you a sleek look that we admire without paying attention to what it does to the hair line. Then when it's taken down, people start complaining, looking for a magic product that will work in three days to return to the sleek style by the fifth day, hmmmph.
With complaining, people should also be ready to work towards their complaint.

You make some excellent points. Unfortunately the struggle of an African woman between self acceptance and the standards of beauty is ongoing and unfortunately many of us cause irreversible damage while trying to look pretty. As though leaving your edges alone isint pretty. The way am wearing my hair in this video is probably a good example of what our society will say is unkempt but really it’s the texture of my hair and my edges love their freedom. I hope we can soon start to acknowledge the damage that some of these hair practices are causing and embrace our natural truest selves💕

I am a natural hairstylist a natural hair salon owner & a cosmetologist . I have spent many years studying & teaching my clients to care for their hair. When I hear you say that the hairstylist have not taken care of our . #1 a braider is not a hairstylist, hair dresser or a cosmetologist. So please don’t put a stylist a Braider in all the same house. Thank you

Hahaha I put anyone that handles hair in one house because all of mine and many others experience at salons regardless of the title didn’t do well by me/them
And unfortunately, like any trade, just because someone has a qualification does not mean they are great at what they do so people still need to make their choice.
There is a time when “ professionals at the salon” turned naturalistas away! It’s only in the past few years we are seeing an acceptance…
I think we are making progress in bridging the gap between naturalistas and professional stylists etc so just trust the process and let time do it’s thing

    hi,
the pics of braids you are showing are mainly done by hair braids who have never step one foot in to a natural hair care school or school for cosmetology . a braider is not a hair dresser or a natural cosmetologist. the schools i mention are school that teach students the science of hair, haircare, etc. most braiders do not have a natural sense of safety n precautions towards their customer. also a braider are not hair stylist either
granted all hair dresser, hair stylist, cosmetologist are not equal however majority of us care about our clients. some of us purchase many many many advances courses that can add up in fees of $50,000-$100,000 + straight from our pockets.
cosmetology the science of hair knowledge is more then styling hair. the course teaches each students how pathogens enter the body, parasites, principles of prevention, bacteria, anatomy, physioiology, basics of chemistry, electricity, principles of hair design, hair cutting the salon business, hair coloring, communicating for success, and so must more. i have a degree in cosmotology.
the use of words are so important.
i love you platform. thank you

Appreciate your knowledge and your care for your clients! Many of us have not been privileged to enjoy hair care from a qualified professional. I think we are getting more educated, aware and exposed now which is a massive step in the right direction!
