- This Blues song by Skip James had been haunting my brain for the past two weeks...so on a beautiful Seattle afternoon, near my window I decided to record this humble tribute to one of the masters of the Acoustic Guitar Blues...
Here are the lyrics (that I slightly modified here and there :-)
Layin' sick, honey, and in my bed
I'm layin' sick, honey, and in my bed
I'm layin' sick, honey and in my bed
I used to have some friends
But they wish that I were dead
In awful pain and deep in misery
Awful pain and deep in misery
Awful pain and deep in misery
I ain't got nobody
To come and see about me
And every dog, baby, got a day
And every dog, baby, got a day
And every dog, baby, got a day
But I said, 'Please, don't you treat me this-a way
The doctor came, lookin' very sad
The doctor came, lookin' very sad
The doctor came, lookin' very sad
He diagnosed my case
And said it was awful bad
He walked away, mumblin' very low
He walked away, mumblin' very low
He walked away, mumblin' very low
He said, 'May get better
But he never get well, no mo'
I hollered Lord, Lord, Lordy, Lord
Hollered Lord, Lord, Lordy, Lord
Hollered Lord, Lord, Lordy, Lord
I been so badly misused
An treated just like a dog
I've got a long trip
And I'm just too weak to ride
I got a long trip
And I'm just too weak to ride
I got a long trip
An I'm just too weak to ride
Now it's a thousand people
Standin' at my bedside
You take a stone
You can bruise my bone
You take a stone
And you can bruise my bone
You take a stone
And you can bruise my bone
But you sho' gon' miss me
When I'm dead and gone
I've been across the ocean
And I've been across the sea
Been across the ocean
And I've been across the sea
Been across the ocean
And I've been across the sea
I ain't found nobody
Would feel my sympathy.
Skip James
You are one of the sickest singers ever man you are amazing....and your guitar playing is just as good
Excellent: Skip James' songs fit you so right!
Really the most "authentically skip" cover of his music ive heard.
Wow, that is quite a compliment Terry, thank you!
Excellent man! Just perfect! Id like to share a joint with you!

This is awesome. You made it a major key, sounds awesome!
Indeed, great ear! Thank you! 😊🙏🏾

90% of these blues covers are a huge disappointment, but this is simply SUPERB! Keep up the great work!!
From Cameroon to Seattle!? That's a tough move. Stay well, my friend!

Man....I wish you'd put some more of these old blues covers up...fantastic job.
Songs like this are why i love the blues, and this is an amazing cover it, love it =)
Really sorry to hear that! I'm glad if music can bring you even the smallest of solace! Sending tons of smiles!
Superbe! ;-)
I wonder how it would be if you’d do "Key To The Highway" when I saw the comment from ronnipalooza ...
YOU’RE SO GOOD. *bow*
Thank you! :-) I absolutely may still do "Key to the Highway" someday.
Oh thats a shame! if anything does come out please let me know :)
Xx ps. my fave is your version of "will the circle be unbroken"
Excellent. Would love to hear you cover key to the highway. Right up you're alley!
Thank you! I love "Key to the Highway," I may indeed cover it someday! :-)
nice
@trudbol Merci Julien! :-)
Hey Scott! Excellent! And thank you for the compliment! :-)
@dog1dog2 I'd love to hear him do "Saint James Infirmary"
Merveilleux!!
J'adorerais t'entendre jouer "Love in Vain" de Robert Johnson si tu en as l'occasion.
Thanks Emily! Nope, no albums for sale (double life doesn't allow me studio time just yet) but someday! :-)
FANTASTIC SOUND! i wonder where I could find the tabs for that fingerstyle pattern you're playing?
Thank you so much. To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure. I'd recommend practicing it using videos or songs like this one. I'm not certain that tabs could faithfully reproduce these exact arpeggios.
beautiful :) do you have any albums for sale? i'd love to hear more of your voice!
Nw This Song Is Gonna Haunt Me Like It Has been Doing To You For The Past 2 Days :D XD
can you do "Crow Jane" by skip james?
Do you give lessons? Id be the first in line to learn from u!!
I miss the A minor6 over B chord. Adds a special sadness. Nice feel, though.
Haha, I love your comment. Yes, I tweaked it some, only Skip could summon special sadness the way he did. Glad you enjoyed it nonetheless, Giovanna. 😊 🙏🏾
man! nothing to say.....
yes finally a black person playing the blues with soul! I'm so tired of youtubes white washed soulless covers
Crossnote tuning?
Standard tuning on this one :-)
Nice. Learning it now. Tricky but I'll get there! Is there any access to tabs?
Awesome to hear you're learning it! Alas, I never took the time to write tabs down for this one. Maybe someday, but I can't promise I'll find the time. If I do though, I'll let you know! Stay with it :-)
