I don't think slow reading (as opposed to scan reading) gets enough props, let alone airtime on BookTube. People are just so intent on reading lots of books in a short space of time these days, amassing unrealistic book hauls, rendering reading another version of a rat race. Just takes away from reading for reading sake. I have to say slow reading makes the journey of navigating a book so much better and fruitful. It does not strictly have to be for poetry alone as is the case for Mary Oliver's collection "Devotions." Slow reading can also apply to longer, more complex works of fiction.

You are so right, books are to enjoy and we can not enjoy what we rush just to get a fake motivation by creating a big pile of books we just understand superficially. If we love literature (and i do so deeply) we should apreciate the benefits of taking our time to read, and re read, books are to think and enjoy. Life is running but we should take our time.

@@joelharris4399 You make such a good point and I couldn't agree with you more, and for me, there are some books that must be read slowly to be understood. When BookTubers say they've read x-number of books this year, I want to quiz them on how many of those books they actually remember. Now I can understand if someone is in the book industry, they would get thru many books because it's their job, but yeah. Not trying to be mean but just saying what I think.

I'm just finishing Anne of Green Gables. I've never read it before and I'm loving it - especially the descriptions of the land. Anne's imagination is just a hoot!

Hi Carolyn! Ok I finally did it! I just ordered myself a Kindle after seeing how much you love it! I've resisted for a while now but when I think of the sustainability and the benefit to our environment plus space saving and the fact that you love it as much as print books finally convinced me! Great vid as always! Hugs to you and Leon and Willow! 😊❤💚

I adore Enid Blyton, I loved her books growing up and often reread them. I hope you'll enjoy many of her other books.

Hi Carolyn. I love the way you describe books. You have such a gentle and genuine disposition.
I understand your frustration with the noise, although it didn't come through too much on the video. I'm surrounded by gardeners using leaf blowers, planes flying overhead, and so many more distractions. This is why I enjoy reading after 12 am.
Having a quiet life is so underrated.

Crying in H Mart really opened the door of food books for me, the mix of food and literature is so fun and interesting because so much of culture is tied to food. Angela Hui's "Takeaway" is one of my August reads and I highly highly recommend it.
Next on my food books TBR is Invitation to a Banquet!

Nice variety. Read 1Q84 last summer. Had an overall "meh" response. Some parts of the book capture your attention, however, overall it just feels looooonnnggg.

I agree. I enjoyed reading '1Q84', only to feel let down as the narrative threads wrapped up toward the end. Murakami lost interest and gave up in this looooong story.

Finished one of your neighbor's novels recently, fellow Long Islander Brianna Fenty. It's pretty good and available on Audible. It's called the Monster and the Magpie, and the setting is Reykjavik, Iceland. To be honest I didn't love the plot but the characterizations are great. Give it a try when you can. Listening time is about 10 hours at 1 X.

A lot of Enid Blyton's works have aged poorly to say the least. So just a heads up: She was very, very racist. Not very kind on women and girls either.
