  • It's off to North Carolina for what is becoming our annual Southern deer camp for the year. Join Shawn (@Sintax77), Marc, and myself for our 3 day deer hunt in the Rocky Mount area. Was great to be there spending time with them both.
The weather was pretty good in the mornings, but that heat in the afternoon was a little much. Pushing to about 80F every afternoon except for the last where hit the upper 80s. The full moon didn't help either, but you play the hand you were dealt. That didn't stop us as we saw many deer during our trip. We passed on at least 10 deer or more hoping for the right one. It's not always about the hunt, but the friends and family that you're there with. Marc was able to get a nice 5 point on the first morning. Good size body and the back-straps were cooked up as soon as he got home on Sunday afternoon. I can hear and smell the butter and garlic sizzling right now!
We had some good food along the way as, Miss Trude was back again this year and made some more fantastic meals for us. Breakfast and the dinners each night were great tasting, and really hit the spot after a long day.
Finished up with some drone shots of Daughtridge Farm. Andrew has 13,000 acres that he leases each year. There are generous bag limits, and being helped by your guide at every turn makes it 'vacation' like. Our guides this year, Thomas and Thomas (TK) were great again! Thanks to both of you for your help.

Thank you for this video. Looking forward to the next one…Boy, there is ALOT to hunting that many folks do not know! Hunters must be patient (not much of that now a days) knowledgeable about natures ways, aware of those around them, helpful and willing to help those who were able to harvest an animal. They must also know the laws of the state they are hunting in and FOLLOW them, even if it means they cannot harvest an animal because of those laws. Before shooting they must clearly determine if they can hit the mark for a fast kill, and to see that the animal suits their need- not their ego. Kudos to everyone who hunts! Thank you Tom for educating those of us who never had the opportunity to learn to hunt. Also, so good to see Shawn!

Thanks Barbara, good time down there with Shawn and Marc. Lots of family talk in the middle of the day on that back deck, that made the trip all worth it. Shawn will have more videos out in the future, big changes that you will see. Take care!

Great video Tom. Paints an excellent picture of everything about our adventure. I hope everyone watching feels the same way. Next time you will have to include some of those stories we exchanged while sitting on that back porch. Makes me smile every time I think about it.
P.S. Thanks for leaving out the part about me missing a nice doe on the last evening out!!!

Was a great time, I think we really had some fun. I enjoyed sitting out on the back deck talking as much as I did the hunts. Think about next year, not like you will be busy, and we will make sure the old .308 is tuned in to a dime. And you're welcome, would have been anti-climatic, haha. I forgot to add in our stocking pic, so I guess you have to come next year!

I really enjoy your videos. We have a group between 12-16 guys who go every year to Daughtridge farms. We have been going the 4 years and we always leave the day after Thanksgiving and hunt 3 days Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Andrew and his crew do a great job every year. This year I got a really nice 7 point. It’s a great time at Daughtridge farms with friends.

Great video again. Very important to spend quality time with family. My son and I go to Kentucky every year for a velvet hunt along with my cousin and this year we did a Montana elk/mule deer hunt also. We have been quite successful but that isn’t the why we do it. When we left Montana for pa I had a hard time leaving wondering when will can return. I like you are fortunate to be able to hunt and own a cabin together. Looking forward to pa deer camp 2023 good luck.

A long drive back to Maine, but just got back this morning from Daughtridge. Waited till after we had gone to watch your hunt. Had a great time but temps in afternoons were very high compared to what we're used to here up north. My dad got a couple for the freezer, but I came up empty handed due to some scope issues. Thanks for the recommendation, was great to get him back out hunting after having a knee replacement a couple seasons ago.

    • @whiterook85
      @whiterook85  9 місяців тому

Hope you enjoyed, and Andrew and the gang treated you right. Can imagine the temps were a little different, but it doesn't seem to stop the deer movement. Hunting in a t-shirt, nothing like it. Glad you got back out hunting again, I'm sure you made some good memories with your Dad.

Looks like a good time guys. I used to hunt all over coastal Carolina when I was stationed at Camp Lejeune NC & not deployed. Lejeune is chocker block full of deer. Took a guy hunting one time who'd never hunted before. He was from Mass.I loaned him a 16 ga double barrel with #1 buckshot. He bagged a nice 8 pt. Can't wait for your Pennsyltucky vid in a couple weeks. Take care... ~Marty

Beautiful scenery, picturesque with the fog and fall colors. I hate it was so warm on you. Lows were in high 20s this week in NC. Nicely edited also. You should plan on a few weeks later next year here in NC. Every year it is like a switch flips the second week of November and the racks appear from nowhere. As always, good stuff and thanks for sharing. Good luck at camp with the boys.

Looks like a great time, successful or not. I am hoping to get a chance to try an Outfitter one day. Would be nice to have someone else take care of things for me. This year has been bad to say the least. Lost 2 uncles and a close friend before the season. During the season rainy weather, losing my grandfather, and a Treestand mishap in archery. It has resulted in 3 camp trips canceled so far and a lot of PTO used up. I am resting/recuperating and hoping to get out some for the coming rifle. Good luck on the coming season and can't wait to see the coming videos!

Good stuff ! I killed my first buck at 13 and was biggest deer killed by youth in 1993. At NC DIXIE DEER 🦌 CLASSIC & scored 146 5/8 so hunting has been a challenge to say the least to kill the few bucks I have killed bigger within a mile of my home of wake county so I’ve always had or tried to hunt big mature bucks and that’s hard down here in the flat lands of central North Carolina and I can say hunting for theophy deer after my first buck kept a fire 🔥 lit inside me but I go hunt ghost 200 inch deer about everyday 😂

Yes, I had two (I just sold the 6.5 creedmoor) though. Just wanted something different (.270). The .350 legend and the 6.5 hit everything I aimed at with zero fails. If you are looking for an intermediate (priced) rifle it is just the ticket. Love the 7mm-08 (Browning) gave to @sintax77, harvested many whitetails with that.

We have been going the pass 4 years and we always leave the day after Thanksgiving and hunt 3 days Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Andrew and his crew do a great job every year. This year I got a really nice 7 point. It’s a great time at Daughtridge farms with friends.
