Solo PA Deer Camp 2023 - Outtakes 13 and 23

  • My Solo time this year at Deer Camp was split between when Mike (The Chairman) left on Sunday morning, til Eric (Medical Man) arrived on Thursday. Was a chance to get my solo vibe working to see if I still could connect with a PA Whitetail.
    Not as crazy as the normal PA Deer Camp, but really how could it be with just me here. It's just my normal time there, mellow and kicked back. Sill had a great time, good food, made some Kinders Chop-House beef/venison meatballs for the trip. You know I love the pasta dinners when I'm there and it's cold out. Just warms you up, and brings back some good memories of my Mom cooking it up at least once a week when I was young. Saw a chicken soup mix, so I wanted to try that also, put a few extra ingredients in there to make it a little more hardy. Makes you feel good after an afternoon in the woods.
    A few stories added in, the deer in the Blue Pot Cafe', and our new cat, Andrew and the harrowing adventure that made use find him.
    Enjoy it, and again this year I put a few minutes of Deer Camp outtakes and bloopers at the end of the video from 2013 and 2023.

    I am the biggest vanishing point fan. Barry Newman just passed away this year, I also own a white 70 challenger, another reason for me to love your videos , lol, thanks for bringing us along , my cat Douglas just died this year, he was like George from the stories you tell, I know the hurt you guys went through, but Andrew will help out, keep up the great work, !

      Well with a name like Kowalski, how could you not be. Was a really nice 70 Challenger in the movie, I do like how Dodge brought back the look. Sorry to hear about your cat Douglas, we know how you feel. You will know when you're ready for another. Take care, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

    Congrats on adding Andrew to your household, Tom.
    We lost our cat Barley in 2016. Almost a year later, my wife noticed a kitten at our back door dragging his leg behind him. Then I discovered he had a brother who was hiding in the flowers nearby. It took me two days to trap them, but I finally was successful. The first kitten turned out to have a broken pelvis (vet thinks he might have shown up at the wrong back door and got booted). Long story short, we adopted both. They survived by sticking together, so there was no way we were going to leave a man behind. Ocho's hip healed up just fine (he's asleep on my legs as I type this), and he and brother Smudge are living the good life.

    Something about Deer camp. For the ones who never had one or hunted your missing out on some of life’s greatest moments and memories. Your camp reminds me of ours . Cheers 🍻 fellas . Happy New Year 2024 .

      Well said! There are 'hunt camps', where it's all about go out and hunt, have little fun, and most likely not enjoy yourself, and if you don't harvest a deer you go home depressed. Then there's the deer camp where you have tons of fun, eat good, have a some beverages and remember it for the rest of your days. Take care, Happy 2024 to you and yours also.

    Thanks for another fun and much anticipated video! So enjoyable to sit back and watch your videos. Always hoping one day we will see you a crack at a good buck. You deserve it, for sure. Ever think of cutting/trimming a nice long shooting lane from your box stand? I had two cut from mine, and its amazing how the deer would filter on to it during the day to nibble on the grass and clover.
    Oh, and we could almost smell those wings re-heating!! Merry Christmas to you, the Mrs and that new cat!

    • @whiterook85

      Have a good lane on the right side, planted grass and clover on it. If the the opener was Monday I would have brought the leaf blower and cleared it, didn't think I should since the season opened the following morning.
      Thanks, enjoyed the leftovers also, nice and quick to get ready and still great. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you also. Andrew says Hi too.

    Merry Christmas Tom! Lots of great information. Great solo video this year. Nothing like wood heat! Great food and drink. Sorry the hunting wasn’t what you guys expected this year! Hopefully a good acorn crop next year will produce and keep the deer out of the bottoms! Awe cute little kitty, glad Andrew found a good home. I do believe in them spirits! Take care and I’ll see you on your next adventure brother!!

    Ok, first things first - Vanishing Point. It's hard to forget that one. Thanks for taking us along on your solo trek. Hard to believe you didn't see any deer. Something worth mentioning about your chicken soup recipe. The wife and I have an Italian restaurant in town that we like to go to for their soup. They have 2 kinds every day. When asked how they make the soup so creamy and thick....you guessed it, mashed potatoes.

    • @whiterook85
      @whiterook85  8 місяців тому +2

      Not sure how many people would remember or even know of Vanishing Point. There was a remake some years back, but I don't think I've seen it. Nothing like a little mashed potatoes for the soup, better than adding corn starch. Hope you had great Christmas with the family!

    Hey Tom, I love your Solo segments! Thanks for adding the Fire Service to the wall. As a retired Fire Captain from NJ, I appreciate that. Remembering all that have served, in the Military and in Public Safety, is important. As I’ve mentioned in the past, Solo time is the perfect compliment to Group time. As a public land hunter, not seeing anything is the normal and what i expect. And in return it makes seeing something even a doe or a pig extremely exciting. Thats something guys who hunt big leases that see multiple deer and bucks a day something theyll never understand. The longest ive gone without seeing a deer on public was 2 straight weeks of hunting, but on the 15th day i shot a nice buck. Persistence and confidence is key. As always great videos tom.

    • @whiterook85
      @whiterook85  7 місяців тому

      @@jorgecayonsr2663 PA is a no bait state, so all minerals and feed have to be completely gone 30 days prior to the start of the season. So we can really only feed from March/April when we get back up to about the start of September. But we do try, as you've seen me put things out. Another issues are the bears, they will vacuum corn, etc up. They wont leave until it's all gone. We are trying, one day our buck will come in! Thanks and take care.

    The flashbacks in this year's buck season vids were pretty slick and neat to see, Tom, nice job! Same with the outtakes! So much footage of ourselves flustered with something... trying to get the angle right... sound that doesn't work right... babblers in the background, hahahaha!

    I look forward to these videos thank you for sharing. Im lucky enough to spend 17 days at our camp starting the friday before bear season. This is the first year ever i didn't see a deer while hunting. The sign is there but i believe with all the hunting pressure these deer are educated by the time rifle season comes around.

      I absolutely agree with you. Not that I don't like crossbow, and I have one myself, but sorry no crossbows after Oct 15th. Too many people hunting with them during the rut. Was like in the 70's to the 90's when doe season was after the two week buck season. You would rarely see a deer.

      Ian, was good to be there regardless of the deer activity. They all migrated to the bottom of the mountain where they could eat the green grasses on peoples lawns. Good time putting the bloopers together, laughed myself as I was editing. Yes, Vanishing Point, for some reason I thought of it a few months back, and it popped up at the local thrift store. Funny that the 'mini bike' girl rides better then her male companion. Don't think I ever noticed it before now for some strange reason. Merry Christmas to you also, and Happy New Year! Will see 2024 could be the year! RITPs!!

    Hey Tom! You do a great job of keeping busy and enjoying your solo time at camp. I enjoy seeing the items for your wall in the Blue Pot area. I also very much enjoyed the story of the deer and the mix and match antlers. I have only taken a 20-inch rainbow trout to be mounted. No fill in antlers, but what is hanging on my wall is not much original but the skin, or so I have been told. But the man did a fine job. I'm glad you found a new cat. I've had lots of cats around the barn, but it's not the same as a constant companion in the house. I needed the cats to try to keep the critters out of the horse feed, etc. I think the coyotes eventually got them when I got rid of my horses. Even the neighbors' small dogs disappeared!

    It was a good video. i look at deer hunting like rolling the dice and trying to hit snake eyes sometimes you hit it on the first roll and most of the time it takes a lot of rolls. for me it took twenty-three rolls of the dice to hit snake eyes this year. so i just go hunting and roll the dice that's all you can do. but as for not seeing many deers i have seen it change a lot over the years and i think the reason is the insurance companys are lobbing the gova mint to let more deers get killed to lower the deer auto accidents. now the movie we went to see it at the movie theater because we heard there was a girl topless in one of the scenes and it turned out to be a cool car movie.

    • @whiterook85
      @whiterook85  8 місяців тому

      You are right about the insurance companies, they really did some lobbing in the early 2000s that led to a lot of does being allocated. Gone are the days that I would see a pack of 15 or 20 in the woods. Yes that is it (the movie), enjoyed it, funny that the naked girl can ride a bike better than the guy. Thanks George, Happy Holidays!

    • @georgeshotrodbarn2113
      @georgeshotrodbarn2113 8 місяців тому

      That is why i do not shoot doe or young bucks i am not hunting for the insurance company's if you kill a doe you are killing five to ten bucks. if we wont are hunting heritage back we have to take matters into are on hand and not the dnr or the insurance company's hands. the state you are hunting used to be one of the best states to hunt. you and your friends should have had nice bucks hanging from the meat pole but you had nothing. so you have to ask yourself is it something we are doing wrong, or have we been screwed i think we have all been screwed. @@whiterook85

      The movie got me thinking my brother had seen the movie when he came home from his second tour in Vietnam and had to have a challenger and the only one he could find was a convertible RT 440 orange with a white top and white interior, so he brought it. the movie helped sell a lot of the Challengers and they were hard to get new. but he did not like the convertible so he traded it in on a boss 351 ram air mustang they were both cars, but the challenger would smoke the tires better. i was thirteen fourteen at the time and would have loved to have either one. the challenger today would be worth a lot of money. @@whiterook85 a
