Documentary
“Even if I lose everything…“
That’s what Arvo Pärt wrote in his workbook which is a kind of diary. For decades in the course of writing music he has filled the workbooks with contemplations expressing his moments of grief and joy, his discoveries, worries and experiences, things that bring to light the inner life of the artist.
In our film, Arvo Pärt studies his workbook notes with Immo Mihkelson which is a fascinating and interesting activity. There are incomprehensible notes but also very enlightening ones. The records evoke thoughts, memories, discoveries. We’ll see a person in search of his path and we’ll understand that the path is a narrow one.
The film contains also home videos showing Arvo Pärt as he is: a kind and hard-working, good-humoured and caring person, composer, husband, father, grandfather.
“Even if I lose everything” is one of his notes. What does he mean with that?
Is this “everything” something that has no value for him anymore?
Is he saying that there is something special, a treasure that one could give up “everything” for?
What kind of treasure is it?
That is what our film is telling about.

You must be an absolute beautiful talent. Many blessings to you.
@@terintiaflavius3349well lots of work and my whole life surrounded by music has led up to this, its wonderful
Such a beautiful gift! And you're a gift to! Music is a gift to humanity!
We are so blessed to have his music in our lives.
Quite true. Heavenly output.
I'm dying to see him. If I could I'd go to Estonia. He's ALIVE and to me, way beyond a regular human. His music, the very way he speaks. No ego at all he's practically not even visible, his eyes are infinity. His music is Divine. To me.

You would have a better chance of meeting him in his new home in Berlin. :)
There is something in the Orthodox Church called the Arvo Part Project; if he hasn't alread been in New York, he'll be back.
I'll go with you, LOVE this man!
One of my favorite composers. He hears what is.
Arvo Part is 85 and he's in such a good shape that he looks like some 55 year old men. He has saved sacred music for our future generations. Thank you Arvo!
I could sit and listen to this man all day. He is so profound. He has tapped into the 'mind/body/soul' connection with music. It is inexplicable. There are just no words to describe how Arvo Part's music and philosophy all rolled into one makes me feel. He is a genius.
guibox3 he tapped into our very core
Yes he is
A musical genius of our time. the Palestrina of modern music
I was going to comment "the Bach or Beethoven of our time" but you're probably closer with Palestrina.
WHOA -- slow down there, tiger.
His music is some of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. Especially Spiegel im spiegel.
He is my favorite composter of my time. I was born in the 80's. There's something so honest and profound in his music. Every piece he has done, I often wonder if it comes from sadness or the thought of his journey thru life. Even at the end of this video, you can't help but to wonder Awesome music.
I watched the whole film yesterday at the "Nordic Film Days" in Lübeck, Germany. I'm deeply impressed by this highly gifted composer. This intimate portrait is a gift for all, who loves his music. You will love the man as well.
Just visited Tallinn & was blessed to see both newly released Pärt documentaries at the cinema (Kino Sõprus) in Estonian with English subtitles. Beautiful insights into the life, thoughts & music of the master. Brought me to tears of joy throughout. Pure genius at work, what a magnificent, humble human being manifesting a divine musical channel between earth & the heavens.
Also, Kaotatud Paradiis (Paradise Lost) & Aadama Passioon (Adams Passion) is another documentary & concert which is a look at the making of Adams Passion with Robert Wilson which was performed at the Noblessner Foundry in Tallinn back in May this year. (I also visited Tallinn in May specifically to see this performance performed live - an utterly transcendental experience.)
ur so good,ty
What was the documentary called?
The image of Part descending the stairs into the underground (0:48) is a wonderful metaphor. I won't state the obvious.
At the end he rises into the sky (2:44+)
The piece he played at the end a little more tractus. It's a beautiful piece. It took me awhile to figure it out
Genuine thanks to you for saving me time and wondering!
I can't wait to see the whole documentary!! The book "Arvo Pärt: Out of Silence" finally helped me to understand his music much better .
+Cvij n I've read some pages of that book till now and it's seems to be very interesting
+Cvij n he help me to understand life
"MUSIC IS MY FRIEND"
Oh, I love this. He's just pure essence. Gentle and sensitive- Divine
Gracias por existir Señor Arvo Pärt! 🙏🏼
Amazing composer. His music puts one into a deep state of mind.
Michael Björk deeper than mind straight to soul!💕
His music is going to give me a spiritual awakening alight.
such an impressive and inspiring guy. hes an real saint
by far my favourite classical composer...
God bless him. In the past few years I have gone through more trouble than the whole rest of my life; more trials, more horror, more humiliation. But I must also admit that the good things that have come into my life in the past few years have been better than the bad have been bad, and one of those good things was the discovery of the music of Arvo Part. Between him, and a few other composers, honestly changed my life. I would almost go so far as to say that music has saved my life. Honestly, I thank God for him. Thank you God.
What other composers did you discover, if you don't mind?
@@danielgratz4977 I don't think the other two quite compare to Part, but they would be Joep Franssens and Markus Stockhausen
So far and above all the noise we hear everyday ... Thank you.
what a GENIUS! and a beautiful person.
His is a truly amazing hearing and then retelling in notes sublime and so so real.
he is so humble. I am grateful to hear his compositions
Thank you for producing this ! Waiting like a hawk!
It' the evidence of the composer's presence in our life! So great musician, so rare one!
His music is entrancing .... his soul is in his work, and it is plain to hear.
A genius of musical composition now, a legend for the future to enjoy also
@2:08 -2:48 those few but compelling notes spoke sheer volumes. A prelude to the hauntingly beautiful piece at the end.
I agree. Is it a piece he wrote (if so what is it called?) or is it just the piece that plays later but on piano?
I love his music... and his heart warming message. A genuinely beautiful soul... may God Bless Him ..

Harrumph.
I love Arvo Pärt 's music very much. But this is far too melodramatic for me.
I cannot find the virtue in man's emaciation of themselves for the purpose of production, whatever it may be, for some it may be scholars trying to write THEE thesis paper for others its THEE ballet. It's man's attempt at expressing or searching for God or representing the divine, which we can never. We will just emaciate ourselves and never enjoy or appreciate life, look at most of the artists and painters today we celebrate, who lived horrible lives. life will always go on because there will be others who will create better symphonies or come up with groundbreaking calculations, until the ground hardens again, and the cycle continues.
Мир.Человек.Мысли.Чувства.Музыка.Любовь.
what is the last song, please ?
Littlemore Tractus. :)
