According to another vlog that I've seen (late 2023 data/ experience), one can get by on 25 to 40 euros per day. That's if one stays in albergues (hostels), buys groceries, packs sandwiches for lunch and/ or cooks in hostels/ shares meal cost with others. It can go higher if one uses luggage transport service, sleeps in hotels or private rooms, eats & drinks at restos, etc. The Norte & Portuguese routes are slightly pricier than the Frances. Thnx for the vid!

I think you could definitely do it for $25 a day with a little effort. Municipal albergues run about 8 Euros. So that, plus buy a €1 baguette for breakfast and shop at grocery stores for lunch and dinner. A box of pasta runs a little over 1 euro and a jar of pesto maybe two euros. So you could totally do some days under $20 and other days spend a bit more so that the average is around 25. But you do probably want to sit in some of the cafes with the other pilgrims and not worry about what you spend. A glass of wine or beer runs about 1.50. and patatas bravas is a nice snack to have with it for a couple of euros.

Greg--thank you for this! In the albergue, what do you do about an alarm? How do I get myself up (provided I'm actually sleeping) and not wake everyone up with my alarm? Or do people not use them?

If you sleep too late, eventually the staff will kick you out. Usually check out is either seven or eight. If you set an alarm for 7:00 a.m., you're probably fine. Maybe even 6:30 is okay. Most people are stirring by then. But if you set it for 4:00 a.m. you're not going to make many friends. I've never used an alarm myself. There will be people bumping around and packing by 6:00 or 7:00 and will probably wake you up anyway.

Doing the Camino in 2025. Your videos have been my favorite. So much detail and well thought out. It really is giving me an understanding of what to expect. Thank you for taking the time to make these.

Thank you. I'll probably be doing another one in 2025 myself. Let me know if you have any other questions.

How is the weather on mid April? Planning on doing part of the camino Frances but not sure if I can have only a simple jacket or just the rain jacket in case is “cold”.

You will want to make sure you are prepared for some cold days and some wet days. My son and I started around May 1st last time and you do have a few mornings that are down in low single digit (Celsius) and also some rainy days. But then you can get some warm days too, so you sort of need to be ready for everything. I usually bring a rain jacket and something warm to put underneath it like a fleece jacket. You can look up the climate for some of the cities along the way, Pamplona, Burgos, Leon and get an idea of what to expect. You don't want to pack too heavy though. So just bring layers. Fleece with a raincoat is usually warm enough while you are walking. Maybe one of those knit caps for winter as it can get very windy, especially in the meseta.
