After watching this Bas got it wrong the most legendary person in NY high school ball is that announcer in the old English voice Slick Sebastian Telfair 😂
And how is it NYC hype when he was dropping 30/10 on teams all across the country? And then dominated the all American game with assist? He was a good player and could have been good in the NBA if he was put in a better situation to start
Drafted 13th by the Blazers but he didn't want to go to that little town across the country. His career never quite took off in the NBA and some blame it on going to a team he didn't like but really he just wasn't good enough defensively. Too small and didn't play good team defense to compensate for his lack of size. A couple inches bigger might have made the difference for him but when you are sub 6" feet you're going to get posted on every possession. If he had played in this era of the 3 point shot he might have had a better career, if he had developed his 3 pointer that is. Still, he was fun to watch and had a nice career as a spark on offense off the bench.
If we keeping it a buck, it’s only a few guards I’ve seen move that quick and be under so much poise and control at the high school level since then and that’s been 20 years. Not saying they haven’t been more talented, his control over the game and efficiency was off the charts. Players take to many plays off in todays hs sports.
@@emptytablegaming yea I agree with the quickness but he wasn’t a good shooter and really wasn’t elite scorer. And a really small guard who will always be a liability on defense needs. I thought he would get to the league and the ceiling to me would be a starter for a bad team. That was just off looking at his game but I have been wrong before I would have sworn D Wagner was ginnna be a bigger Iverson 🤦♂️😂
@bdukes8075 his height has nothing to do with it its multiple nba legends around his height(iverson,isiah,cp3,stockton etc) bassy problem was lack of shooting, athleticism and defense
Even in looking back at the highlights the things you notice immediately are he is small. His handle is not very tight. He isn't getting good penetration and he isn't explosive athletically. What he had going for him at the time was being Steph cousin and playing at Lincoln which the movie he got game was still fresh in people mind. So you have the next "phenom" from Lincoln. But I think considering he had a fraction of the God given talent of his cousin he went pretty far. I think if he kept it real with himself on this he wouldn't be lashing out at others and be able to move on and maybe discover other talents and ventures.
I disagree with this assessment. Telfair handle was tight and he was very explosive off the drive. His change of speed and first step was cat quick. He was doing moves nobody was doing at the time. The boy was dribbling a ball hooping while on roller skates. That alone says a lot about his handles. The ones that know really know. This video is a small version of what he was doing.
Physically, you are correct. Small, not explosive. Handle and skillwise, you are 100% wrong. He had elite tight handle, passing, playmaking , and command of the game. He was never going to be an elite scorer of the basketball.. he was going to be a CP3 type of player ..A great value CP3, so to speak. I've seen him play in person. He's QUICK. Not necessarily fast. Don't let this one game fool you, whatever you're seeing lol
Watched the interview,Sebastian not even top 5 in NYC history. Lew Alcindor,Chris Mullin,Bernard King,Stephon Marbury,Kenny Anderson,Dewayne Washington,Nate Archibald,Mark Jackson
I think he would of been good at the NBA level if the coaches would put him on the floor for 35+ minutes. He could of been a 15 - 22 points / 8 - 10 assist with proper minutes.
@@DubbyDuboisyea off the court shit part of it but playing college builds that discipline on and off court. Plus he had more of a college game. He was fast but wasnt a freak athlete, super agile or crazy footwork. Louisville was perfect for his development imo. Nonetheless he did what was best for his family at the time
Was totally overrated. Was never gonna be as good as projected. Not even close to Marbury or Kenny Anderson. I don't care how many points he scored. Just seemed like a guy his coach let him do anything he wanted.

He was a show in high school. Disappointing when he got to the league I was honestly shocked when he said he played 10 yrs

It’s normal now but 20 years ago this is insane for a high school point guard
Normal now? Dude went straight frm HS to the NBA! Name me 3 people tht have done tht as a POINT GUARD........Normal my ass😂
I think he’s referring to his playing style / performance
I had the privilege to see him play back then I went to Grady which is like a block away from Lincoln . It was a show when they came to Grady
Bassy really IS one of the greatest out of New York High School wise. Please believe that
He's listed at 6ft??? 5' 9" at MOST!!!
Been looking for this game for a while
Hope you enjoy it. Thanks for coming.
Pause
Lookin a HS players like D Rose, CP3, Deron Williams, even a Dee Brown this aint nothing special. That darn NY hype got Telfair and Lenny Cooke 😂
Is that John Lovitz on the PA?!?! 😅

Definitely see the Marbury Influence
It is what it is
kid sure is slick
A lot confidence not enough game nothing out the ordinary should've never been in the NBA NYC hype as usual.
💯
Should have never been in the league but he was in there for 12 seasons…clearly ppl thought he could play

They should talk about his matchups with Darius Washington. D Wash used to go crazy when they played.
