Are Earthquake Tools Good?
The Earthquake XT is all or nothing. It is great for ripping tires off and doing front end work. Just don't try to start any lug nuts with it or use on torque sensitive fasteners. Just past the air fitting there is a filter screen that is smaller than what other manufacturers are using.
How much Torque does Earthquake XT have?

Every review you made, I listened to and bought and don't regret. You saved me tons of time and money. Thanks pere
Been using one for over 3 years, no problems, works great!
I picked up one on sale this weekend for $99. It hits a lot harder than my old original generation earthquake that looks like your old IR. I also love the hand feel, balance, and the reduction in weight from the old one. The rubber mold will also be a lot better during the winter in my unheated shop. Metal air tools get extra cold in the winter when air is flowing through them. When installing lug nuts I found that my normal “that’s about right” feel resulted in around 90 ft-lb. On setting #1, Which isn’t too bad. So far I’m pretty happy.
PETE, IR air tools can be re-furnished like new quiet cheaply. I to prefer non-battery powered tools. So I keep my IR stuff up to date every 10 yrs or so.
Pete i have never seen a boring video from you my friend . I Love the time you put in to show us what you know . If its a B.S product you dont sugar coat your thoughts on it .You tell it like it is . Thank you for all you do .
I used to have to use breaker bars to loosen up extremely tight bolts or nuts, got me the earthquake, and haven't needed to use a breaker bar ever since. But you do need a good air compressor that holds slot of volume, for a stronger impact.
Yep!
Pete. I had the same issue with my impact replaced the ring and didn't Last long. I worked in a truck shop and got a heavy duty o ring and it worked and lasted quite a while. Just a thought.
You're friend

Pete I have the old red earthquake from HF. I was the first one to have this at that shop. . I was not the last. Two others bought the same before I left there. That was 9 years ago. That cheap red HF made a believer out of that shop. So yes that Is when I started taking HF more seriously.
Thanks Pete! If you were in north Texas you’d be freezing 🥶 I’m in Fort Worth loading up my work van t least it’s warming up some thanks again and a decent air compressor Is super important from my experience at home working on stuff
We all know the Earthquake Impact is a popular item, so lets look at something else that's popular -- the merchandise shelf above this comment!! Help support My Friend Pete and Diy Auto School.. Thanks for watching!
I been using mine daily for 2 years , no issues also have a air cat that was 150 new 6 years ago and it still is kicking . Keep them oiled and water out of your compressor they will last.
I bought the Xtreme Torque,1/2” impact when they first came out. Thing is a beast. You HAVE TO upgrade all the fittings in your air system all the way from the compressor to the tool with high flow fittings. It makes a big difference. It helps to have a BIG compressor. It will twist a bolt right off. Lol. I bought the stubby version and it’s so stout it’s my go to, and if it can’t break something loose I get out the big one. I’m working in a small engine repair shop so I’m not working on huge heavy equipment. I’ve had these impacts for years with no problems. Oil you air tools people
Again I like your reviews Pete. I look forward to them. There’s always a fair amount of skepticism around Harbor Freight tools. U give a honest , fair and thorough assessment. Thank u again for sharing!😎👍
From a guy that went totally battery for this stuff, take it from me, you gotta have the air with it. When the battery dies and you forget to charge the others, this still gets the job done NOW not later. Good vid man. I have the older black n grey one, and it still works great..... but my primary is the battery ones.
My friend Pete my son has my dad's half inch impact which he bought 69 or 70 and still works great nothing like having good air tools
Have that same IR impact from 1997. I bought a new 1/2 drive end for it. Came in a rebuild kit. Problem solved.
I put my Lugnuts on the first setting and tighten with the four-way this way I can be sure I could get them off when I’m stranded but that’s just me
Thanks for the good review Pete!😃
Maybe worth mentioning - HF just had this on sale for 99 bucks (picked up an orange one) so I'm sure it'll be on sale again soon enough. they also had the red and black older version on clearance for 99.
this is my favorite channel for comedy
Pete I have a old vw bettle could you do a quickie paint job on it. I'm on a budget though. I promise to pay you after I inspect your work.
Stop being cheap just pay for the job
Thanks Pete ! By the way I hope you get a better microphone that has more bass response . Other than that we love you !
17:23 the way you just slam them down 😂
I bought the IR2275 at a pawn shop I’m happy.
I love listening and learning from someone that knows his shit
I have a Blue Point 3/8 air ratchet I bought 40 years ago off the Snappy truck, that is finally getting weak. I use Dextron ATF and I put a couple of good squirts for a pump oiler in it. New o'rings would make it strong again.
A couple of old indian tricks...If you grab the socket on the and twist the socket the opposite direction, you will get even more torque.
tightening
Real review. Thanks . It’s appreciated more than you know 😎💪
Ive been using the earthquake halve inch composite set when i started as a tire guy 4-5 years ago used it daily with an auto oil fitting and have not had a problem. But it for sure is not as hard hitting as the Ingersoll i have not tried there extreme impact set yet but i now have a Ingersoll that i use for stuff the earthquakes cant get off
Also for 119 dollars it makes a good hammer if you flip it around to get those pesky corroded alloy wheels off. But im talkimg about the red black and silver ones that come with a protective boot
I lived in Taiwan for a short time and these people are very dedicated conscientious people and everything I've ever bought from Taiwan which is only one thing which is a 3000 watt power inverter lasted through intense rigorous trials and tribulations...I actually destroyed my power inverter because I tipped water all over it
Thanks for the good review Pete!! Love ya man, hope you and Minnie have a great day man, and don’t get strung out by the haters man, they ain’t worth getting our blood pressure up over!! Take Minnie out for a date and dinner tonight Pete, you’ll miss doing that if anything were to ever happen brother!!
Harbor freight is still cool tho but they have been raising they're prices like everyone else.
It's all a SCAM! Just excuses to suck more money out of us..
You should have put a torque wrench on the nuts to compare which one is tighter, that would have convinced me 100%.
That was a very good review 👍🏼👍🏼 thanks Pete.
I BOUGHT THE EARTHQUAKE ELECTRIC......I dont use air anymore they work better and you dont need an air line.
Air tools and corded tools are a pain in the ass. I pretty much quit using them.
WAY OF THE NEW WORLD! Ill stick with what I got and am used to -- I like AIR!
@@diyautoschool agreed Boss!! I like my air tools, I never have a dead battery and that’s one thing all the keyboard warriors can’t say and I’m an asshole to the 9th degree whenever I’m in the middle of a job and the battery fricn dies and I have to stop and go grab another battery etc. then there’s been times when things have been busy and for whatever reason, batteries did not get put on the charger so I have to wait for one to charge so I prefer air on certain tools to eliminate some of these issues plus that’s what I grew up using and I’m too fricn old to give a 💩 about changing now. I just think air is better for some things and battery is better for others!! PERIOD!!
@@diyautoschool Ha ha I was the same way until I used electric on a field job. Now I never use my air tools anymore. Quieter and portable. OMG these electric ratchets. are Awesome. so quiet.
Does star pattern matter?
Hey Pete, I’ve been a long time viewer and supporter of both of your channels. So much so that you motivated me to start my own channel. I was just wondering what program/app do you use to create your thumbnails? Thanks for all of the videos and inspiration.
howdy hi there pete. i like your reviews, i picked up some of the solar motion lights you reviewed they are great thanks
Thanks for watching Russ!
Great review Pete Thanks for sharing.
Lowes has Kobalt 1/2" 750 lb/ft air impact for $99.00. FREE DELIVERY! Looks very similar.
I can’t stand kobalt stuff. I’ve had very poor luck with that brand, sorry
Kobalt air anything, total scrap/junk, don’t waste your money and time!
Hey Pete maybe if it's yellow it might work a lot better in what I mean cat yellow
LOL!
Have you checked out Torque Test Channel? They built a test stand to test the impact tools.
good video Pete you didn't even use bad langwidge
Pete, you must have swore alot in this vid as there was plenty of air gun sound effects😂👍🇦🇺
Thanks for sharing mr. Pete
Great video and very nice review!
Pete, they got it on sale this weekend for 99 bucks
Regarding the oil blow out on the bottom of the XT. Do you think it may have been over oiled from the factory causing the leakage? Does it leak less over time?
At 100* I wouldn’t be wearing jean shorts. Good review.
👍👍 hello Pete and Minnie
i work on boats 20 years in GM dealerships now i use Dewalt xr series and or Milwaukee s with 10 amp hour batteries no cords or hoses to trip over work all-day
They have more colors now including red blue yellow orange gunmetal as well
I have a red earthquake 1/2" impact. it has been great
Same here in fact better than the IR we put them to the test.
I got the I/R air tool. Serves me well. The battery is good for short time use but if you hold it "all day" they get heavy. Got the Milwaukee battery aswell and that is heavy as fuck but Good if you want to do something long away from compressor and dont need Long ass extension hose. But in the workshop, the I/R is preffered all day long.
See if you is able to get the spring that keep the socket in place and repair your I/R.
Damn it Pete... You must have the heater on in your shop there... or had it on. Cold as Sheet of Ice in my apt. Tryin' not to spend money here you know... so dressing for occasion.
I LOVE Driving my 50 Year Old Cars though....
Thanks Pro Regards from Holland
Just an update. The earthquake is supposed to go on spring sale for $99 starting April 4th 2022.
I just bought that earthquake impact for My 8 gallon air compressor and it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions on this
.You didn't tell us if we are better off with the ingersol (the 1992 one ) or not in comparison . Like how long it lasts etc
Thank you for your review my friend 🙏🙏
It's a Ford F350 pick up on my placing the rear axle I can't get the rear extra not out what would you recommend
I got the same ingersoil ran impact gun I've had it for just about the same amount of years and that's the same problem I have what mine
I hate those efin rings I always rip them off first thing. I had a IR 2131 It was one of the first composite body guns. Loved It but, I love my 20v earthquake that I can use anywhere even on the moon. I don't think anyone makes a fully steal body gun.
what does the 3 adjustment on the back do?
Those 1-2-3 adjustments are for forward only you should know that bud
So what size air compressor are you using
If it keeps going it's cause stronger period
Is it strong enough to take out an axle nut
I use both air and battery, I have some Mac Tools air tools that kick some serious A! My Mac Tools 1/2 impact even has LED lights on the front and it’s an air tool 🤓
Those ones are badd ass if its the one im thinking of my coworker bought one and we tried it out on a garbage truck lug nuts with a half inch to 1" adapter took em off and put em back on
@@HarryBeast55 Is it red? If it is then that’s the one! I love air tools, I also love battery tools, they all have their place. I’m not getting rid of mine, lol
Right on 👍
That has so much torque that it might snap your wrist pops
Great video thanks. I'll pass on impact I'll stick with my Ingersoll
I only bought this because the head on the ingersoll was busted up and to replace it was to expensive vs just buying one! I still got it and aint getting rid of it..
I hear you I ain't getting rid of mine either but you know what I'm finding myself more and more with the battery operated impacts no air hose
@@diyautoschool hey Pete you should try a battery one I been using them for years and the power is awesome, I have milwaukee don't know about other brands but this one is been great, thanks for your videos and have a great day .
@@diyautoschool but I agree with you with that IR I have them they are great, the reason why I switched because you can bring them with you very versatile since I'm a mechanic.
Put a tune up kit in the 20 year old I.R. atleast some reeds.
I had an air impact from my dad a long time ago when he gave me I don't know the brain but I was using it to take out an axle night and I can please leave Brooklyn pentagon I broke the stud that the Socket goes on It's an air impact
Good old IR231 !
The Ingersoll is what you buy when you're 30 and want a tool that will last you 30 years. The Harbor Freight is what you buy when you're 60 and want a tool that will (maybe) last you 10 years.
Both sounded alike to me.
Take your old impact, place the socket holder across a solid piece of metal, take a chisel and take a hammer and smack the chisel so it just distorts one of the 4 corners, just enough to keep the socket on and not to much where you cant get the socket off. Just keep doing it till it works just right. Done deal. I don't like new tools. Box made in Taiwan, tool made in the PRC by 10 year olds.
Pete get that tooth fixed. Keeps falling out when you say the word screwed
There was a time when IR made them all
Pets you lucky we don't have the shops you have over there in the us we have limited shops in Australia you people get so much more than we can get our stuff cost double what you people pay
Pete
😊👋👋
VERSATEC!
@@diyautoschool MY FRIEND PETE!😅😅
The old HFT earthquakes were made by Florida pneumatic in the USA and were great! now they are no where near as good! lost two in a fire I almost cried!
Maybe so. I bought a old red one 9 years ago and it is great. From Taiwan
@@PhillipHall01 yeah the closes thing to the old 1/2 earthquake now is the klutch G10k at Northern tool use to be $89 I have one and love the thing. And I think it's made in Taiwan.
My trigger finally gave up the ghost on mine
💪👍💯
Taiwan has better still than China
CHINA SUCKS!
@@diyautoschool I will not buy
China 💩!! It stinks just like you’d think it would!!
Harbor freight lasts for a year and it’s trashed
You complain to much 😜
