I know it's just an opinion, and I take NO offense at all, ever... But, ya just gotta love folks that give you the rules and criteria in which to supply them with free lessons. lol
Doug Seven Waffle all you want...it is a FREE lesson and a damn good one. Thanks for your time and talent. The explanations and insight help frame things. I was never one for "Put your fingers here and play this" type approach. The additional info helps me take these lessons and apply them on stage in live situations when the backing music is different from your track. "What to do" is only half the process. "Why" you chose that approach is equally important.
Wow, nuff' said. That's a brilliant way to describe it. I have always said, "music happens above the shoulders first"...
+Doug Seven that's so cool give me some more
+Doug Seven man this guy is good he should turn pro john
hehe dude your laugh tho at the start of the video... it's awesome. made me laugh
It's rare to find a good player who's also a good instructor. Doug is both!
I've been playing for 41 years and Doug has taught me more in the last 15 years than I've ever learned before that! Thanks Doug!
2 months in ,learning so much about guitars, music, staying up way late, can"t get enough. thanks for giving me that feeling of ya I stepped up a bit , Thank you Doug
That’s bad ass dude. U got a tele and a tube amp ?? U don’t have to have one necessarily, but I love hearing folks hammer it out on a tele. Just a personal preference Keep jamming brother !!!!
Doug 7 is the man. Ive learned so much from him and his lessons and DVDs. Thanks Doug.
Doug Seven Thankyou I'm 64 and played blues and rock all my life (well since 11 years old) I always loved country sounds and guitar but whenever I tried to think of a country solo my brain turned it back into blues or rock halfway through. This lesson has given me something different to think of and I thank you. At 64 every day is still a school day! God bless you for taking the time!
I love your guitar lessons Doug! I've been picking for over 65 years now and have had many Nashville recording sessions with the great Pete Wade. This lesson where you stay right in the same little box with the A chord is simply great! Thanks my friend and keep up the good work!
The main thing that makes this cook, is Doug's great phrasing. Notes per se are one thing, but timing, dynamics and phrasing is where the magic lies.
587 people who gave thumbs down, are ignorant haters. Thanks so much for what you do Doug!
Doug i really appreciate the way you teach. I have to see it played. Tabs don't mean a thing to me. I have played by ear for 49 years. but your style of teaching is great for me. thank you so much.
Thanks from my heart, Doug! You are a good teacher. You're opening up worlds of music for me.
Doug, I taught for many years, played for many years, and I was an agent for guitarists Stephen Bennett, worked with Muriel Anderson, and the great Richard Smith, all three among the best acoustic guitarists in the country. It's hard to teach properly, so I just wanted to mention that you do a good job. I pretty much played in classic rock groups, Christian Rock Bands, and eventually acoustic solo guitar, so I never played a lot of country, so these are some fun videos. Thanks
I’ve been playing for 40 yrs. let me say an outstanding lesson. Tnx Doug for breaking down a classic country solo and riffs .
Thank you for your time to teach people like myself whom can’t afford lessons , sincerely Thank You
So cool when you start playing! It all comes to life! Everyone should have a Telecaster, Even if they can't play, This lesson should inspire all budding Guitar heroes
Doug is just such a nice guy. For real. It makes the learning that much more enjoyable. That he legitimately seems like a cool dude to talk to about guitar and whatever else even.
I watch guitar lessons every single day. I am lucky to find something useful maybe 10% of the time. I have to say, your lessons are F'ing killer. Seriously one of the only guys out there with great instruction and a great attitude. Nicely done, cheers.
+Diego Corral So kind of you bro! Thank you !!
I agree, Diego. It's the simple stuff that you can use. This is a great guitar lesson!
Thanks Doug!!!
Diego Corral i hav some of his dvds, very gd, u b glad u got em.

Doug you are such a Blessing to me Brother, I've been out of work for 3 months, thought it was MS for a while, now nobody seems to know, but anyway these few lessons I've found have been such a blessing in my life. I've been playing since age 11 and am now 46, all the tid bits I've stock piled over the years thanks to you have made some sense.it is my Prayer that I'm able to afford these Awesome stuff you put out one day, right my family needs every penny, but I'd so love to own it. Please accept my most heartfelt thanks for the way you explain stuff for those of us who aren't so smart, May God Bless you and Keep you, though we've never met I feel as though we are Brothers, thanks so much again, and God Bless
New subscriber here, like many others, i was a rock player for years and shunned country, in the last few years I have been loving the country and the different techniques, the other day I watched a video of Glen Campbell playing with Chet Atkins and oh my God, talk about a mind blowing clinic of superhuman warlockery! Anyhow, great lessons and like one of the other commenters, I like that you teach intermediate stuff in an intermediate style without all the over explaining, refreshing and professional! Thanks Doug!
This is inspired teaching and playing. Thanks for sharing this.

Doug, I'm two months into playing a guitar. I've learned my a, c, d, e, g base chords. i just can't seem to string anything together. however, I'm primarily a head banging rock n roller. once I put this how too video on! wow, all kinda lights went off! thanks for your lesson and way of teaching.
I'm 46 and have been a fan of this type of music all my life. I've owned an acoustic for years and know a few chords and how to play a little rhythm. Finally broke down and bought myself a Telecaster and want to get into this and really see how the lead pickers live. This is going to be a blast, and I thank you for putting this out there. I can't wait to get started!
6 years ago - how did this age? Are you rocking out now?
Hey, Doug, this is the first lesson of yours I've stumbled across, and I seriously want to thank and commend you! For some reason, the way you explain things totally makes sense to me. I've been playing many, many years - sometimes feeling stuck in a box for ages. But, after checking out a few other videos of yours, I can really see myself moving forward again.
THANK YOU for sharing these lessons and tips with the rest of us. I've watched hundreds of YT lessons, and yours are exceptional! Big ups, my friend! :-D
I'm not normally a country guy, but I really like how you each. Lots of good material, well organized, and enthusiastically taught. I could almost get into playing it if I watched enough. Keep up the good work!
Hands down the single best guitar lesson I've had. Thanks. I'm going to eat this for breakfast, lunch, and dinner tomorrow.
I really like this simple but effective teaching method. I love playing with these notes!!!
I really love your style. You don't talk down to people you talk TO them and that is what keeps me coming back.
Thank you for taking the time to help and share with others your immense guitar knowledge, it really shines through.
Doug all I have to say is thank you.
Doug does a great job showing you how to connect the dots-This shows you how to use licks-with the chord changes-not just hot licks with out direction-each note is going in the right direction-employing technique, scales, and melody
Wish I'd found your channel 15 years ago....you're a great taecher and a fine musician. Thanks!
Thank you so much. By teaching the scale and using a nice country riff with it is perfect. I used the scale now to play with tracks in the A-key and make up my own blues stuff. You are the first one on line that made it fun to learn a scale.
Top man.Lesson was most helpful, that is when i finished my laugh over the the opening.Still makes me grin.So a tip and a smile to.Than you.
MANNA from heaven.
Great tutorial.
Doug - I'm ostensibly a rocker from way back, but I'm finding myself listening to and trying to play more country. The level of musicianship in country has always been first rate, and more than a little intimidating. I just discovered your channel, I'm now subscribed, and I can't wait to jump head first into the program. Thanks very much for putting this together!
john b Dude, you're very welcome! Please let me know how it's going from time to time and if ya have any hang-ups I can help with!
I've been trying to learn country lead for 3 years. I can't stop playing what I've been playing even after watching at least 50 different videos of country music lead guitar lessons. I've become a much better player but I still don't sound country
It's so fucking frustrating! LOL!
Great job, Doug. You definitely play my style of pickin', and on my favorite guitar. Thanks for sharing your talents with us, look forward to more of your lessons. Rex
FANTASTIC.............Thanks to all the GREAT FOLKS..who take time to give us FREE guitar lessons..Most of us really really APPRECIATE YOUR GOODNESS.............. and you damn critics...........ya sit alone..................... Thanks Man........stuff like this..making life better..Aloha
Doug. I'm a fine, experienced guitarist, having played acoustic most of my life, and now finally getting into playing electric. I just wanted to tell you, I've been able to "play" country licks for many years, just from hearing the notes and playing it out. But your video REALLY helped me to fill in the details I never really got--how to lay in the subtle bends that give it that real country feel! Thanks so much!
I've been playing solo acoustic guitar for about 50+ years. Starting to jam with some guys who are doing country. I really appreciate the way you teach this stuff. When it comes around to me for a "solo", I have no idea what to do other than play in the blues pentatonic licks that I've learned. This helps me learn some country stuff to add in that that mix.
Are you anywhere near Dallas?
I like your teaching style by starting out with the Chord structure and everything else follows naturally. This is The way to go. Thank you for your excellent work!!
You sure show some real gems. I like the enthusiasm you throw in. I never thought about lessons from a country player, I like blues pop and rock, but as a rhythm player trying to learn lead Ive wasted loads of time trying to study theory and scales and follow teachers that do show some cool ways to play stuff, but never come away feeling like I learned any thing if that makes sense. More of a copy thing. Im currently watching your newest lessons on how to play guitar, so I looked you up on Ytube. Love it so far. Thanks
Perfect and I learned something and I have been playing for 57 years.
You, sir, are an great musician, but an even better educator. Thank you so much from one teacher to another!
One of the classic, iconic guitar lesson....
Great lesson Doug - I'm a long time beginner and this lesson is tops - thx!
Man, I don't ever read comments so I don't know what's been said about this, I just know what I wanna say. I want to say it kicks butt! I'm 57 and don't remember my life before I started playing guitar, Beatles, Stones, Albert King, Clapton were all influences. But I entertained myself with Haggard and Jones! You nailed down exactly what I go to every day at least once or twice and I hope some young players appreciate it for it's real value. Right on!!
doug doesnt talk too much some people just dont listen enough . awesome lesson
For a stunning video. Incredibly Nice explained. Now it is practice a high Level.Thang you for sharinga great video
I love to listen to people talking about teaching the guitar! It's great. I never get bored with it. Neither do you obviously! As Frank once said, shut up and play yer guitar!
9:30 to listen to the solo and see if you like it..
Thanks...I knew there was some playing in there somewhere.
thanks for sparing us the time. Shitty repetitive boring solo.
@@iamlexlex How long now have you been dead?
It put a big smile on my face.
ls145443 Its a solo.Baerly
We're happy too Doug ... You rock !!
Doug, just watched the lesson and I loved it. Being a newbie on guitar, this lesson was right on target for me. Thanks so much for helping me continue my journey in this some what complicated world of playing guitar.
Doug Seven, Thank you for sharing your incredible talent. Great job!
Now I gotta buy a Tele : )) T.Y. so much for this lesson.
....those fingers are ADD...........so much energy they need a calming drug.........
thanks Doug i really like the way you break these lessons down and how you explain everything i played mostly Acoustic for over 35 years until i suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury that left me partially paralyzed on my left side of my body that injury forced me into early retirement and many other major changes in my life my 27 year old son has my collection of guitars and honestly i watch UA-cam videos with very good headphones on to still give me the feeling of playing which i haven’t done in over 10 years now it’s the only way in life i can naturally relax and zone out in a way to relax my body and my brain that is always in pain because of the injuries my other way is to smoke a little weed ! that i’m trying to get my doctor to prescribe to me now that it’s legal in the State i live in he writes me up for Oxy cotin but i don’t care for some of its side affects and yes it takes care of the pain but it makes it hard to stay awake and think normal
Oh my, What those licks can do to me produced from a Tele. Sweeter than Mary-Lou's lips. Thank you Doug. Yuma,AZ.
All I can say is thanks for sharing your knowledge. If I had you tube and people like you willing to take time to share thirty years ago I would have been a much better player today. the younger generation has a lot to be appreciative for but don't under stand what it was like to not have the great ways to share that we do today. Thanks so much for your time Doug!
Awesome... I was so lucky to get a kind of country music lesson I've been looking so far. Jumped straight to my guitar. Thanks Doug.
Fantastic, using just three notes with some bends is all you need to sound like real good ole country. Thks.
Hi Doug. I just came across this lesson by accident. I've been playing for 50+ years and did my first gig or booking as we called them back then in 1964. I've even managed to steal a living for a few of those years and I thought this was a great lesson. I will definitely be catching up with some more of your teaching. Thank you. Oh and I have spent a lot of those years trying to be Steve Cropper. Never quite got it but I have also never been short of work.
Nice lesson. Doug, I see it’s been up since 2015. If you’re still checking in here, my compliments on your good work.
Just discovered your channel Doug and love it. One of the things I love is your explanation of the techniques! The basics of technique is where you learn to fly on your own.... good job!
Hey Doug, I've been looking for a good country-style lesson and I found it. Thanks a lot man. I'm a beginner in this style, but I love this music.
Wow! Doug, this is great! I've been pickin Country for over 60 years. Thanks for showin how its done.
Awesome lesson Doug! Thank you!
You are just one likeable fella and this is great instruction!

This seriously just made so much music theory click in my head! THANK YOU
Excellent teacher......I enjoyed it very much.....thank you , Doug !
Nothing like guitar music one can drink to.
Thanks for taking time to make us better guitar players. I'm an advanced player who wants to pick up anything new I can. Great.
Dude! I'm 55 and have been playing for roughly 37 years and that is truly the fastest thing Ive learned. Plus I've been in a rutt and needed some new licks. There they were hiding in plane sight right in my favorite scale, lol. Nice work buddy, thank you!
i have been playing or that its trying to play using a paid site for musicians. (sounds like the same name.) wink, any who i have learned some basic stuff but the last three days with your free lessons has me playing at a whole new level. My wife even made the comment last night sneaking in to listen to me , hey hun your finally getting it. lol. she means well but correct never the less. thank you so much for your FANTASTIC videos. keep on a keeping on. you rock..... Michael
this gold doug, big thank you ,love your music and happiness
There's a little country in all of us :) Dig this kind of guitar playing, so uniquely country :)
thank you so much for your lessons! i love the way you break things down and explain things.
Watching this video was like refueling my truck. I'm ready to go again.
This has been real helpful. I play music at Assisting Living Homes and I wanted to add a little life to the music so I bought an SR 18 Alesis Drum machine and a Boss RC-30 Loop to set up Bass tracks and now I’m learning some licks from you to add a little lead to my gospel music. If you can direct me to any specific videos you do for Gospel stuff like “Will the circle be unbroken” and stuff like that, I would be appreciative. God bless Pastor Justin.
As always, my hero!!! I just love that steel chicken pickin' style of guitar. You and James Burton, Albert Lee, just the best.
Only just come across this lesson.. Well I consider myself a fairly moderate guitar player, but I still enjoy looking and learning things from other people.I must say how much I've enjoyed watching this video. And most of all how you explain things without complication.. I love learning other peoples compilations of scales.Sometimes just a small adaptation can give fantastic results.. Anyway just to say I have really enjoyed watching and listening to this very educational tutorial..Many thanks Wyn
Thanks so much for a great lesson. I grew up on it too and I have trouble finding stuff that I really want to learn. You nailed it.
Great solo! My playing is at the point where this is where I need to be. With practice, I can get this...
OMG I'm so glad I found your lessons thank you! great teacher
Thanks Doug. I like how you explained the chords and lick note association and based these licks off of basic major cords. I am just getting started with learning licks and lead guitar and feel like i can learn this lesson. I will look for more of your videos.
Hi Doug, I really LOVE your videos. I've been listening to this particular 'lick' for about a 100 times now. Greetings from the Netherlands ;-)
Your the best Doug! Thanks for the gold you give away.
Doug you are a straight up legend. Super positive videos, easy to follow and just a great vibe. Thanks.
